To Fix The Welcome Problem!

Wanting to do something to help the new Steemians, Scott and I decided to start introducing them to our friends. In order to do this, we started creating a daily list of the real introductions we felt had potential and quality but had been somewhat overlooked by many people causing their upvotes to be low, a future payout to be below $0.050, and most of their comments to be from bots. We understand how they must be feeling because our introduction post was not received well at all with only 12 upvotes and $0.10 in payout. Both Scott and I were very frustrated because we knew we had a very good quality post with little reaction while other "trending" introductions were of a poor quality photo and little verbiage. We were so discouraged and heartbroken; this should not happen to anyone. Therefore, we are on the lookout for these people and will do our best to bring them to your attention.

As of today, November 15, we have introduced a little over 50 people. However, there are so many others that need to be seen, but we just don't have the time or the resources to do show all of them. We decided we would start going to each real introduction and welcome them to this community and give them a few tips to help them out. I took Tuesday and created a "welcome message" and started. After 25 comments to these new people and I took a peek at our steemd page only to find that we were down to below 50%! So, the lesson we learned was the size of a comment can either enable us to welcome more or hinder our efforts. So what are we going to do?!

We decided we were going to create a post or two that we can use in a shorter comment in response to the introduction posts. This will enable us to post more welcome comments while also having a resource for people to find in a future search. However, we will still be using up a lot of resource credits so we are starting a curation trail so all who want to support our efforts can. If you want to help with this project, you can find us as the xcountytravelers curation trail.

We will be using the below text on a "Welcome New Steemian!" post and linking this in our future comments. Please feel free to resteem it and use it on the welcome to steem comments.

One of the things that will help you grow here in the world of SteemIt is to remember that community is the reason this is such an amazing place to be. To get involved in that community you want to read what everyone is writing and you want to comment, sincerely comment on what you have read. This helps to get your name out there and helps people get to know you in addition to your blog posts and videos. Comment, comment, comment is what we encourage to grow in this community. However, being new you probably have a low Steem Power (SP) which means you will have a low voting power and low resource credits. (You can find that information here: https://steemd.com/@yournameHERE). The key is, while you are so low in SP, to keep your Resource Credit number to about 80%. Here's a great article by @welcomewagon to explain why: https://steemit.com/welcomewagon/@welcomewagon/80-why-you-need-to-know-it

The same is with your voting power. If you are like we were when we began, we thought the "upvote" was like Facebook's "like" button. It is, but it holds a lot more weight because you are actually paying someone Steem (money) for their work. Because of that, you don't want to push the vote button for every post you read; only vote if it really is good quality and content you truly enjoyed. You will also want to remember not to vote on anything that is over seven days. The payout on posts happen after seven days and it after that your votes will be wasted. Here is a video by @sethlinson that might help explain it a bit better:

We hope this helps you get around easier. You are always welcome to ask us questions and if we don't know the answer, we will get you to someone who can. Welcome to the SteemIt Community and can't wait to see what you have in store for us all!

You are amazing @xcountytravelers! You know that, right?

I’d love to join you on your curation trail. Shucks, you might have noticed me following you already 😊. I don’t know how you manage it, and I know I couldn’t do what you are doing. So, I’m really grateful that you make it easier for me to welcome new steemians and hold out my hand for a handshake or an embrace. I’d be happy to learn from you and begin welcoming more newbies. Just lead the way. ❤️

Well, thank you. We're just trying to give a hand up like others did for us. It's all about community, ya know. You are more than welcome to join us on this journey. I am so honored that you are with us.

Great job with the initiative guys! I admire the fact that you both experienced the unfortunate side of not being spotted and then you flipped it on its head, turning a negative experience into an idea to help boost the morale of newer users joining the platform. I'm looking forward to seeing the next Have Ya Met post!

I'm still getting my head around the RC situation but I'm finding it a lot easier to understand thanks to what you've shared and the post there from the WW. Keep up the great work you two!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It is always needed, even if we look calm. I'm always stressed out that I haven't done a thing right.

Oh, that post is all @welcomewagon! They worked so hard to figure out how to help the members so we wouldn't miss out. I just want to make sure every new Steemian knows so they aren't as frustrated as we all were days after the HF20.
