Enduring the Grind

in #work10 months ago

There’s a strange balance I’m learning to live with: I genuinely like my job, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Some days, I feel energized and in my flow. Other times, especially after hours of back-to-back meetings, my mind runs on fumes. It’s not that I want to quit—it’s that I need to build the endurance to keep going strong.

Liking your work doesn’t exempt you from exhaustion. In fact, it sometimes demands more of you because you care. You want to show up well, think clearly, collaborate meaningfully. But those things require energy, and endurance becomes more than a physical trait—it becomes a mindset.

What helps me is remembering that struggle isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a mark of growth. Every long meeting survived, every mentally draining day conquered, is a quiet victory. I tune in when I can, take breaks when needed, and find small routines that recharge me—like a moment of silence, or music that steadies my focus.

I’ve come to respect the grind not for what it takes from me, but for what it gives me: resilience, discipline, and the satisfaction of knowing I gave my best. I don’t need every day to be easy. I just need the strength to keep showing up.

As Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” And I’m learning that endurance—like excellence—is something I build day by day.
