The world is getting smaller

in #world11 hours ago

In the last few years, I just feel the world is shrinking, not in real sense but in the way we are getting connected with people. Even 2 decades back, calling up someone from the East Zone to the West Zone was a challenge and now it feels like we are all next-door neighbors. First there was this world of Telegram, then came Phones and then the mobile phones. But even after the Mobile phones were introduced it was not very easy to call, because the charges of calling international was high. But as technology progressed calling across boundaries has become simple. I call my nephew in Canada and talk with him for hours, which 1 decade back was only a dream, else it would rip off my pocket.

I remember when I was travelling for work to different countries, once on my birthday I called up my hubby from Zurich and we spoke for around half an hour and I had to pay some 100 CHF, which really pinched me. But now, I just need a Wi-Fi connection and I can make just not a call but a video call also. Corporates have been able to simplify their work with easy connectivity's across the globe. There is no need to travel, one can do video meetings and it is as good as being there sometimes in person.

That's one part of the world and the other side is that there are so many opportunities across continents these days that in every country we find multi-cultural presence. Here in Oman, we have presence from almost all over the world, and not only people we have presence of communities, cuisines, arts, culture, festivals, fashion, language and everything. While living out of my Country also I have never felt much being away.

Nowadays I have seen that people are adaptive to different cultures, we have learned to navigate and enjoy multiple cultural influences and blending our identities. Students are travelling easily to different countries for studies. Not only that people are able to get education from Universities in other countries sitting at home through distance education.

I am just amazed sometimes to see how we have progressed and come so far and making things simpler for life. Now it's the world of AI and the world is shrinking further. Just look at us here on Hive platform, we know people from all continents. When I was in school, I had only one pen pal from London, and it was a big thing then. We exchanged letters which would take days to reach one another. It was like a time travel, by the time the letter would reach, life has moved on so much more than the message in that letter. But it used to be fun. Now, I can give real time updates to people I know in different countries.

I am sure in another decade's time; we will have modes of transportation which will take us across continents within few hours and then the world will shrink further.

All of this development is great, but it surely comes with a responsibility which is completely on us. What do you all think about this.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

That’s such a beautiful reflection! It’s amazing how technology has transformed the way we connect—what once took days or weeks now happens instantly. Your story about having a pen pal really captures how far we’ve come, yet also reminds us of the charm and patience of the old days. Hive truly shows how small the world has become while keeping those meaningful connections alive.

I still remember those phone bills from longdistance calls back in 1988 - 1994 not funny at all was happy when we could use a fax was a lot cheaper then speaking on the phone .

On the other hand while it's easier to communicate long distance with other people , i spot a growing resistance when people that are refuge from war conflicted countries try to find a save heaven in my country .

Not just my country but a big part of Europe , probably has to do a lot with housing problems and bad politics .

Indeed! I appreciate the experience of learning from professors in far away countries that conduct their classes and later upload it on YouTube. Reading the comments on the post makes me realize how incredibly lucky we are to be living in an age with easier access to education, even high quality ones.
