May I be the devil's advocate for doctors? I could be wrong but that scar is most likely from a smallpox vaccine since polio is orally administered. Maybe someone made a mistake when they told you. Not from the shot but from the scabbing of the live virus it injected, that is putting the vaccine containing fluid on the skin and then making multiple small jabs in the skin with a pointed vaccination stylus. BCG vaccines for tuberculosis leave a similar scar but you don't seem young enough to have one of those, they are pretty recent. The immune reaction caused an ulcer and therefore a scar. In the near future with DNA sequencing, we will only need to vaccinate the population at risk. Now is mostly a brush stroke measure to protect the population statistically. At the moment is the smaller of many evils.
