Open Letter to Dolphins and Whales - Growing My Support

in #growth6 years ago

I have been on Steemit over a year now and for that time I have invested and dedicated hours and hours to content, to curation, to engagement and to networking.  I have focused my efforts on those less fortunate to me and I hope I have provided a lot of value across a broad spectrum.

source

One thing I have not done much of is looking up.  Looking at the accounts with more than me to try and find support.  I haven’t spent much time fostering relationships with those that could help me, instead I focused my time on those I could help.

Now is such an awesome time to be on Steemit.  The prices and low, new account registration is down, daily average postings is down.  Now is a great time to be spotted and to find support.  Now is time to be growing an awesome ‘core’ of steem users.

The reality is I have been extremely lucky and have had continuous support for a long time now from two awesome dudes by way of regular upvotes.  @nanzo-scoop and @fulltimegeek.  Guys you rock, you have kept my posts afloat and I really appreciate all the help you have given me.  Thank you so so much, I really owe you.

To some this might sound greedy, but I am looking for more regular support.  I am calling to the accounts above me, the accounts with larger SP to help out. Right now I am looking up.  I know most of my followers are small accounts, and although I apricate all the votes I get, most are worth less than the dust and that make it hard to grow.  But if I could get more, then I could really do more.

Asking for help like this is a little difficult, but if you don’t ask you won’t get.  I feel like I have my hand out begging right now.  Could I post more to earn more? Well yes, but why put out shit content when I could try get more people to support my good content.  I have stopped with a lot of the data posts because with the down turn and negative trend, they were not helping to motivate people.

What have I done with the support so far? What will I do if I get more support?

Well to start with, I am now a small dolphin.  I don’t power down and I have a long term vision. In a perfect world, my plan is not to power down for the next 3 years, and if I can stretch that to 5 it would be better.  Obviously if something disastrous happens in my life I might have to dip in, but at the moment I’m good with a long term plan.

I have an unpurchased rep of 68, and in the UA rankings I am currently 109

I run and will continue to run and sponsort contents that focus on long term thinking and engagement.  The Indonesian league of Engagement and the Redfish Power Up League are popular weekly posts.

I delegate and will continue to delegate SP free to individuals and projects.

I engage heavily on the platform, often running direct outreaches just offering help and assistance. (@nanzo-scoop I still laugh at the outreach I did when I sent the message to your alt account not know it was you)

I am partner in @steemcommunity witness server with @abh12345 and the @c-squared curation team.

What am I looking for?

Well I am looking for you to consider voting regularly on my posts.  I post 3 to 5 times a week.  On the rare occasion I post more, but only if there is something worth saying.  Because I delegate to others for free, my vote worth is not that of a small dolphin.  I try never leave dust votes, but by doing this, my voting power often drops and I have to stop voting to power back up.  I want to build my account faster so these limitations do not get in the way of me helping others. Lol in a perfect world, I would like to double the size of my account by the new year.  Bit of a mountain, but with the right support, it would actually be possible.  If I double my size I can double the support I give.

So if you would like to help, then please consider adding me as a regular to your voting

Thank you for reading

Paula

Fair enough, I have seen your name a lot but no clue what you are posting about. Let me start by following you. I just undelegated 5K stepping away from the bid bots. I plan on moving that to UA, I believe a lot in that. You have a super high UA so now I am actually curious about your activities :-)

Posted using Partiko Android

That's what I like to hear!

@paulag has follows from a couple of rather 'influential' accounts - Ned and dtube, and me of course 😂

Oh and being a witness helps too.

Hi, we have not spoken before. Thanks for visiting my blog. Bidbots have been a profitable venture for investors, but im glad to hear ur rethinking your options. UA is a great idea, so are curation initatives like @c-squared because is so inclusive. You have plenty to chose from thats for sure.

Thank you for the follow, it all helps 😁

Posted using Partiko Android

Hey @paulag! I don't think we've had much interaction but just wanted to reach out and wish you all the best in your endeavour. What i have seen of you and your work here is really positive and professional. I hope you have a fantastic day! With plenty of wonderful surprises added in for good measure 💚💙💛💜💖

Aweee how sweet and kind of you. Thank tou so much for stoping by to show ur support

Hi friends, I have also been steemit for more than a year but I am less fortunate to have as little support as I can, and to get more power is also very hard for me because the exchange rate is very different, you are very lucky to invest in steemit, congratulations .

you are very lucky to invest in steemit

Minor correction, one invests in STEEM not steemit. Also, SteemPeak is infinitely superior to steemit and should be our primary interface to the steem blockchain.

Why is steempeak so much better?
And why not use busy.org?

Thank you @fulltimegeek for stopping by, for the resteem and for all the support. I don't have the words really needed to express my gratitude.

@nazarwills one of the cool things about steempeak is that there are no charges to use it, unlike many of the other Dapps

Happy to help lift up other leaders that want the best for Steem :)

Not all investments are monetary. I expect that most folks here are investing time and attention in Steemit or another UI and all of us are receiving dividends other than emuneration.

You are right, my investment has been my time. Hours and hours like so many others

Posted using Partiko Android

Agreed! @steempeak is a great addition to the ecosystem... it actually takes the Steemit social content experience and makes it "current" rather than "2003 message board!"

=^..^=

steem is difficult while the prices are so low. Everyone is finding it hard. That's why it was particularly hard to write this post, because I know i am not he only one and i know I am rather lucky already

Unpurchased rep of 68 — pretty remarkable achievement I'd say.

Posted using Partiko Android

I thought exactly the same thing @libert ... and @paulag coz I'm new I'm not sure why rep "means nothing anymore" but I like to think of it being somewhat like the concept of integrity (doing the right thing even when no-ones watching)

Or maybe think of it like false-nails and hair extensions. Some people just want the long nails/hair and are happy to pay for a quick solution while other people place more value being able to achieve the long nails/hair through their own time and effort.
Whether it means anything or not, you have yourself a very valuable asset indeed. (and I'm inspired to follow your lead)

Yep, being a proud non bid bot user means I have had to work for my rep, pity it means nothing anymore :-)

It was really brave of you to write this letter. I know what you mean by your voting power drops, i have mine depleted! I find it really hard not to spread the upvote love to every post I seem to like and commented. Is upvoting too much a bad thing??

Its been hard for me at my very low steem power, how much more for you when you have an army to support!

For sure, I know there is kindness lurking here. I believe SOMEONE (WHALES & ORCAS PARTICULARLY) SOMEHWERE CARES!

Posted using Partiko Android

Brave and risky. I know there are many others that are working hard on this platform and many that deserve it more than me

Posted using Partiko Android

We all want it, thats for sure.. but looking on a larger scale, your impact is much stronger and visible. I believe you could do more, more than anyone of us.

Sometimes bravery gets paid for being upfront.. who knows.

Hey @paulag even though I have followed you for a while I missed this in my feed and in fact saw this post because @simplymike curated it through C² :) You do a lot of good for the blockchain both in terms of data analysis and through your engagement / powerup outreach and other community activities. I hope some larger accounts do add you to their regular votes, you deserve it :) Much love - Carl

I think you are also one of those accounts that gets looked over for your efforts. Its the people doing the work that you are doing that is keeping content creators here on steemit. I hope that someone also decides to add you to their regular votes

Unfortunately I'm one of many that is looking up to you, while you look up to dolphins and whales, it's part of the cycle. :D

One thing that I really liked was the fact that you mentioned that now it is "easier" to get noticed here on Steemit, because less members (active users) means less competition, which immediately translates into more possible followers, which are a very important part of a sustainable grow on the platform/community.

"Unfortunately I'm one of many that is looking up to you"
haha am i really that bad to look up to.

But on a serious note, I know exactly what you are saying, we are all in the same boat and i am trying to reach as many accounts below me as I can, its been my focus. The problem is, I am not a bot and I only have so much time and SP.

Hahaha, not at all!! :D

I completely agree, time is very limited and it always feel short when I´m on Steemit. There's so much to do and so many good people/content to boost and help.

I hope your call-out gets answered @paulag! I think you totally deserve it :)

thank you very much @lynncoyle1

Sadly, my vote is very small @paulag, but I give it gladly. And I sincerely hope someone with some influence to give considers adding you to their voting roster — you're definitely one of the hardest working people here.

I guess the additional word I would add here is that while it's great for a lot of the "power brokers" to point to all the apps being developed for the Steem blockchain as a measure of success, the Steemit social site remains the de-facto showcase and "public front window" onto the blockchain, and an example of "what can be done." And — pardon my bluntness — if we allow that to "go to shit" it's just going to be that much harder to sell the Steem idea, and those apps.

=^..^=

Thank you for your votes and your support.

You are so right, just because steemit was a showcase site, does not mean we should let it go to shit. at the end of the day, it is still the funnel for the apps and all the content goes though steemit.

Hey @paulag,

To start, I'll be visualizing you getting auto-upvoted a minimum of $2.50 - $25.00 dollars each by at least 15-20 high-up dolphins, orcas and whales very quickly.

You do soooo much work with smaller Redfish and young Minnow accounts, this will be a wonderful way for these larger accounts to ensure that they are supporting small accounts through you.

Also going to be visualizing you getting surprise funds that you can invest in more Steem yourself while the prices are down. And also gifts of Steem from others who support what you are doing.

Wealth pouring in through every route possible, to Bless you and all those whom you support, encourage and help to grow. ;)

ah girlfriend, if only have of this were to happen, it would be amazing. Please please channel all your energy into these visualizations. i dont really need wealth pouring down, but lol there is no way I would say no either.

Thank you for sending this energy and for your support

"I have stopped with a lot of the data posts because with the down turn and negative trend, they were not helping to motivate people. "

I don't agree. Perhaps it is because you're thinking of a particular kind of motivation in a particular audience. I know your data posts have motivated me to reconsider and further develop my understanding of Steemit and Steem, and am confident hard facts affect different communities according to their missions.

Lastly, even plankton benefit from such factual information. I reckon a lot of the reason retention is so poor is inaccurate understanding of emuneration on Steemit, and good data will help good people to make good decisions.

Thanks!

that is rather interesting. With the downtrend in all stats my feelings were that is was giving redfish a bad impression. Data only tells one side of the story, the other side is that now things are quiet, its so much easier to find good content and active users. Its an awesome time to build a core and grow more dolphins so when the next wave comes, we will be in a better position to deal with the influx. Maybe its a pipe dream, but maybe not. However I take on board what you are saying and will reconsider my position on it :-)

I am the type of person who vote only when the subject interest me deeply in my heart. I hope you are going to find good soul mates to help in your quest.

its a good way to be, voting when the subject interests you. that's really the way it is meant to be. Keep it up, we need more people doing this.

On my way following your steps... I know I am still not a dolphin but let me support you regularly ;-)
You are an example for all the steemians.
Steem on

thank you, thank you, thank you. I take all the support I can get. You rock

@paulag keep going, your great work help all community not only minnows. I still support you.

Your post was selected and voted by the curator @pataty69 project looking for excelent rewards on great content posts that can be followed on my trail at Steemauto.

Know my project: Curation @pataty69

Posted using Partiko Android

you are an awesome supporter @pataty69, thank you kindly :-)

nice way to ask for support. right now i am full, sry.

for anyone who wants to regularilly support to support you: i am quite content with www.steemdunk.xyz

@steemdunk is providing good and reliable service.

I am glad you have found a service you are happy with. At the end of the day, user happiness and positive user experience is a much needed factor in the success of the platform. thanks for stopping by my post :-)

sure especially in "low steem" price times i appreciate everyone who keeps on posting.

Hi Paula, if they don't already know, I wish the dolphins and whales reading this will take a look at your profile to see what you're doing to help the minnows. It is very heartbreaking to often see whales constantly upvoting really mediocore content. Perhaps those account are on their autovote or because those account pull in a big payout through bid bots and other whales regular upvotes. Hopefully they will divert their attention to help those who are really helping others on Steemit. Good luck

Thank you so much @livinguktaiwan, hope you are keeping well

Posted using Partiko Android

Good luck getting some regular support.

Good time to buy more steem yourself too of course.

I wouldn't mind seeing your posts getting more highly rewarded!

Posted using Partiko Android

I wish I could buy more. I did buy a little bit to get me over the mark between minnow and dolphin but if I had spare cash, I know where I would be putting it ;-)

I'm actually quite glad I didn't upgrade myself to Dolphin.... it saved me a few squid on a steemfest ticket.

Personally I like the data posts btw!

Posted using Partiko Android

no way, is it cheaper if you are a minnow, I didn't know that, that's cool.

Im getting the feeling from some of the comments you are not the only one missing the data posts. Thank you because its given me back some lease of life and motivation.

Although having said that - it's occured to me that they may now have less (declining) value as steem becomes more than steemit.

Posted using Partiko Android

This is a great post Paula! If there is a right way to ask Steem for more support for what you do, this is the way to do it. Post it like a Resume of what you have done, and what you will do moving forward.

Surely there are whales out there who can afford 3 frigging upvotes week to make a difference for your account growth! And if anyone deserves that growth, it is you. You provide some amazing services to the Steem community!

Keep the dream alive! And keep pushing toward your goals! You will be found!

Dreaming i may be but its worth the shot. I know there are many on steemit that do what i do. Lets see how it goes. Thanks for the comment

Posted using Partiko Android

Inreally love reading ur post. I find somthing that not many people think the way u do such as. Many people think how to get helped by others than help others.

Posted using Partiko Android

thank you so much @coretan.aksara, its up to each and everyone of us to try make steemit rock. If I only had self interest then I wouldnt be much good for the platform.

I agree with u @paulag.
One thing I always believe that when we help others we will be helped by others as well.

Posted using Partiko Android

You do put out good content and I wish you the best in this outreach. I will resteem as soon as I figure out how to with this app, or when I get home to my computer. Don’t know that it will help, but there is a small chance for a little more exposure.

Posted using Partiko iOS

Lol parkito is cool, but in comments i dont know where to find a resteem.

Thank you very much for your kind words and the addational exposure

Posted using Partiko Android

I did find it. In the iOS app, when you have the post open and are not in an active comment, you will see in the top right hand corner three dots. The resteem option shows up when you click the dots.

Posted using Partiko iOS

I'm in a similar place on the block chain. I don't plan on powering down any time soon, and I enjoy supporting the art community on Steem as much as I can, even having purchased physical artwork from other Steemians.

I regularly stumble across your content, and enjoy it, but for some reason was not yet following you.

That has now changed. You can count on my future support. :)

thank you so much for stopping by and your support. Thats really cool that you have purchased artwork. I recently found elegance.blue website, if you dont know it you should have a look.

And really nice to hear you are a long term thinker, I am meeting so many the last few days whos focus is totally long term. As soon as I get a chance im going to look at your RPG game, I have been covering games on the block in my last few videos.

Hey @paulag you've hit the head on many nails with this post.
Thanks for the insights on your existence here.

Posted using Partiko Android

Well i hope the nail stands on the vote button, then the hit will be sucessful. Thanks for your support

Posted using Partiko Android

You're highly delegated into a variety of projects. I've seen this as a possibility for myself.
I simply have to be more studious when it comes to making longterm delegations.

Posted using Partiko Android

I do delegate out a lot, but not enough that my vote becomes dust. I can only reach so many people myself and I know getting delegation is such motivation. heheh I could always keep it and self vote all day, or lease it out to bidbots.....but its not my style

Brilliant post. I really hope it will sort any effect! So let's see....

Lets see is right, its worth a shot anyway 😁

Posted using Partiko Android

Great to see people like you its almost 5 months i have been in steem very tough for me.

stick with it. It is not easy, but it is fun. I have met so many amazing people here and I have learned soooo much that the rewards were secondary to me. But now I see how much people reply on those with SP to curate, rewards have become a little more important

I hope you can get some more support, I will add where I can :)

chbartist has a higher Rep than me :D

@tarazkp you have also been one of my very good supporters and I owe you a lot of thanks

you are most welcome, you have offered me much more food for thought than I have paid for. I feel like one of those people who eat and run before the bill comes at a restaurant :D

hahha I love the way you put that

Upvoted your post, and following you now. I hope to see more of your posts, and will upvote more of them. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of SP yet, but my plan is to gather a whole bunch! ;-)

Aweeee thank you kindly. How cool of you to support and follow. Lets make steemit the most awesome place online

Posted using Partiko Android

Best of luck, think you've done quite a lot...hope someone does listen

Done a lot and way more to do 😁

Posted using Partiko Android

we are all with you...

I hope your voice will get heard and you will get the support that you deserve!

lol I think I was chancing my arm :-)

Lets keep our fingers crossed and pray to get a good correction of STEEM price. 🙏

That is going to be very annoying, but at the same time very healthy. If that happens I promise to power up 10,000 SP and become a Dolphin again.

However, I do not promise that I'm going to upvote all your posts with full power - only the ones I like. 😂

I wish I had the money to invest and buy loads of steem, then i wouldnt have to ask for help. Thank you for voting on the post you like :-)

You're a great resource for Steemians of all sizes, Paula. I read your posts only occasionally, but I've made sure I won't miss upvoting all of them now.

Thanks for helping all the red fish! It's good work that will pay off in the long run, for them and for you.

Whoooo thank you soooo much. My intentions are that the work i do is good for everyone, for you, for me, for the redfish and the whales

Posted using Partiko Android

Wish your voice get heard. @paulag. 👍 With kind of drought on steemit gone are the days, when any good work use to get notice. I have witnessed the ups and down though was not aware completelly but did noticed the happening around steemit.

Posted using Partiko Android

Im wishing it gets heard too 😉

It is like no whales or bigwigs remain active any more except the dapps owner......or they are in a separate league.....not bothered much about the lower level .....

Posted using Partiko Android

If I am a dolphin or whale, I would support you to support others... I would love to power up more so that I can give back more... And I have never thought of powering down unless really bad things happens...

Posted using Partiko Android

i LOVE you attitude. The more we have the more we can give, the beauty of steem

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you. Indeed, the more we have the more we can give.

Posted using Partiko Android

Whaaat? Only 2 big boys support @paulag? Outrageous!

Honestly, you have done a lot more as a small dolphin for small (and full of Hope) steemit users than a lot of other big dolphins/orcas/whales that are too busy calculation much Will be their ROI on the next "project" they find.

And what is even more transparent, you enjoy what you are doing, and know that the upvotes are a side effect of your actions.

Please, keep being awesome.

I love being called awesome 😁 and i love what i am doing. Lol ROI on making sure we retain users is rather low, maybe it be better next year 😂

Posted using Partiko Android

Just like you I've made the 'mistake' of dedicating my time helping smaller accounts to grow, while forgetting to look up. As a result, I receive little support from bigger accounts.
It's important to find the balance between helping the small guys and looking up.

I hope you'll get some reactions to this. Resteemed. :0)

Support is so important and with the work you do, someone should be supporting you. Would u consider a post like this?

Posted using Partiko Android

Difficult question. Maybe one day, but definitely not right now. I mean, I'm on such a mental rollercoaster these last couple of months, I can't really call myself a reliable asset, lol. I've been doing good these last weeks, but I might as well disappear again for some time.
That's really not a good sales pitch ;0)

Last week, I got tired of waiting and profited from the low Steem price to buy my way up to 5000SP, which gives me some possibilities to make a difference for others.

Except from Asher, I haven't really been mingling (Is that a word?) with the bigger accounts, and although I can understand that they overlooked me (because I never took any initiative towards them), I'm completely surprised that someone like you is left without support from the bigger accounts.

I think you have every right to write this post, and I admire your guts. Even if I would be a 'reliable asset', I think I would be too shy to do the same.

I like the boldness - it's a bit like the open letter Asher wrote to this guy with all the SP delegated to the bots. You can't get anything unless you try, right?!

It's about time that the big stakeholders contribute to the community. I know that, you know that, but I keep wondering if they even care about the community. I truly hope so.
And I hope some will see how valuable you are, and how much more you would be able to do for the community with a little help from them. Fingers crossed.

No way, lucky you, buying in will really help others. You invest in the platform and the people. YOU are the best type of person for the platform and I for one will make sure you have my support (although its not worth much at the moment but i will grow)

Posted using Partiko Android

We're not going to fight about which one of us is the best for the platform, lol.

Of course I also bought in hoping that the Steem price will skyrocket. It was not a complete unselfish move, hahaha.

Thanks for the support. I have you set up as one of my autovotes on Steemdunk since a week or two now. I do have to check the site again, though. It used to be more reliable than SteemAuto, but today I noticed it has been missing quite some votes lately...

Anyway, I hope you'll be able to get the message through to someone.

I appreciate your commitment and the courage to write this post. Many of us understand the struggles of getting noticed here. I admire how much you have done to connect to others through groups and programs. That is something I have not been able to do personally, preferring to interact via single posts and individuals, hopefully creating a more one-on-one connection. Probably not the best strategy for growth, but we can only be who we are. :)

You have my support, even if it is just one of the little fishes swimming in this been Steem ocean...

What works for some does not always work for others. There are so many people here working hard and struggling more than me. Thank you so much for your support, it all counts

Posted using Partiko Android

I am also a small dolphin but with more SP available than you. I am happy to vote up your article's but lets face it... if you didn't have the respect in the community that you do.. your post may have been flamed down for asking things such as this.

You do get a lot more votes than me from the bigger guys, and its something I have had thoughts about. How do you attract them?

Having a dolphin sized account does not cut the mustard, but getting respected seems to be the answer. Maybe showing up at Steemfest and getting to know these people may do wonders. I can only try.

this was very risky, and not something I did lightly. How did I get the support I currently have, to be honest I dont know, luck? Maybe hard work? Im honestly not sure, but I am extremely grateful.

Are you going to steemfest? How cool if you are, and yes I believe it will do wonders. One of the reason I did this post is because I can not go. My husband would have to take unpaid leave from work to mind the kids so its double the cost. Maybe next year (although I also said that last year)

thank you very much for your support and for stopping by this post

I am going to Steemfest. Anyone who is serious about Steemit really needs to go. Its a shame you are not as you would have been a popular person to meet, I'm sure.

Ah man i am so ragen i can not go. For my future here on steemit, well as you said, anyone serious about steemit. Im gonna miss out big time 😪

Posted using Partiko Android

You do get a lot more votes than me from the bigger guys, and its something I have had thoughts about. How do you attract them?

Easy:

  • Forget about getting huge upvotes.
  • Find something useful for others that you can provide and are good at.
  • Publish it because you are interested in it.
  • Communicate with readers in comments and on other related posts when somebody writes about it.
  • Do it every. Single. Day.
  • Repeat.

Thanks for the advice, but as someone who has been doing these things for 6 months, does get some attention and has a fanbase, its hardly the stuff I'm looking for :)

I guess your "problem" is the same as the rest of the posters - content. People live in illusions that their posts are useful and somebody is going to "pay" for it. Just because whales post crap and vote for each other, does not mean that they are going to vote for your crap the same way. They are not content creators and the system does not offer other ways to earn money, so they abuse it and post crap.

Think in other categories. Who are the guys with big money? What are they interested in? Do they care about your opinion on some subject? Why they should care about it?

I believe they need some useful information. In this case it is analysis of STEEM ecosystem, markets, users etc. No crap. They have to understand what is going on with their investments and in what stage it is right now.

The same goes with crypto analysts. Nobody cares about nice charts. They do care about hints and tips to earn money.

If you have tried 6 months and have not found a content that is useful, maybe it is time to start to think about changing something?

Excellent work that good to have people like you on the platform.

@paulag
The SP in my whale account is all delegated, so I can't help you, sorry!
But I can give you my fullest plankton support! ;)
Good luck!

Plankton support is way better than no support. Thank you
