While I am off camping in a cave in the forest and snow by a lake with my buddy enjoying the silence other than the noise we make, the noise that I am focused on is the mandolin and it is proving to be incredibly diverse as I watch and listen to more.
One of the first videos I watched was this by Chris Thile of Nickle Creek. I am truly enthralled by his playing and the sound he is able to get from the mandolin. I absolutely love the classical use of it and he does and outstanding rendition. It is 15 minutes so be prepared since it is the full sonata.
Then there is John Reischman and Sierra Hull who are both masters. I have been watching numerous videos from both of them and just stare at their left hands, at the speed and accuracy. Their picking hands are moving but the rest of their arm is largely stationary. They both have a quite amazing careers.
Here is the real bluegrass master Bill Monroe, the inventor of bluegrass. I am just beginning to start watching videos of him and holy crap could he play! Amazing to watch his fingers fly on the frets and the super fast speed of his pick. He is who MANY have aspired towards.
These are just some of the people that I am finding who are masters of the instrument and I am able to pick something up from every video I watch. I may never be able to play like them but if I could be just 1/3 as good it would be an accomplishment for me. Practice, practice, playing, practice, playing. It takes time but these are the sorts of things that inspire me to try harder and stay trying. I want to be able to play a sonata some day with my mandolin.

I don't know whether you can find video of him playing it, but you have to hear Bill Monroe's instrumental tune, "My Last Days on Earth." He was definitely a master.
EDIT: found it, albeit with poor audio.
Nickel Creek is also an absolutely amazing band from more recent years. I like to see musicians playing unexpected music on various instruments, too, although banjo has been my style more.
Unfortunately, I can't find a video of Frank Peretti (local author) playing Bach's Prelude to Cello Suite 1 on a banjo, but there are videos of others playing the same piece.
I've watched a lot of Bill, what I can find which is mostly grainy old videos but still, the sound is there. I like the banjo but it never really hit me the way the mandolin has. Also something about the finger picking just boggles my mind. It's hard enough to use just one pick let alone up to 5.
We saw Nickle Creek in concert in California back in 2004 I think. I didn't quite have the appreciation for them then that I do now but I remember a lot of the concert and it was great.
