Still crypto clueless...But I have crypto-plastic

in LeoFinance5 years ago

Hi folks, I hope y'all are well and have had a cracking start to the week. For me...Well, it hasn't been too bad as I had a cool little arrival yesterday. A crypto arrival. Don't worry, I'm still clueless, but my crypto VISA card arrived today, only two weeks since ordering it, so I'm just a tiny bit less clueless right now...But still definitely clueless.

DHL delivered the card, which originated in Singapore. It came inside a really nice looking Wirex envelope although packed safely into a standard DHL envelope to protect the fact it was a credit card. Smart Wirex, smart. It's a cool looking card, a metallic mint green colour and it has name and the card number printed on the back along with expiry date and the CVV.

As you can see, all I need to do is head over to the Wirex app and activate the card. I'm heading there now...You guys just hang around here for a bit...Entertain yourselves.

OK, I'm back.

It was a pretty easy process. They asked me for the last four digits of the card and the expiry date and that was it. Activated. I then set a PIN which can be changed via the app at any point in the future, and that was it...Ready to use.

I know what you're thinking you crazy cats!...G-dog, go and use it then report back. Go!

Ok, you guys just hang around and entertain yourselves again, I'll be back...No funny business when I'm gone.

Right, I'm back again.

So, firstly I needed to exchange BTC to AUD using the Wirex exchange. Once done the AUD simply dropped into the AUD account on Wirex and as I have that account linked to the VISA card that's that's where the funds come out of. The card can be loaded with multiple currencies of course, but I only need AUD right now.

I headed over to Amazon and purchased something, Lego of course, and the transaction went through like normal. My assumption is that if I was to do the same thing, exchange BTC to AUD, or any other currency, and load it to the card, I would be able to withdraw at an ATM or use EFT at a shop via the VISA card in the same way any VISA card works. I'll need to test that out, but I'll do that another day.

So, that's really about it I guess. The VISA card arrived and works so that is pretty much exactly what I wanted. This cryptocurrency thing is all fairly new to me and sometimes usually feels a little out of control to me which is why I decided to learn a little more, and actually bring some crypto into the real world through a purchase.

I'm glad it worked out and it makes me feel a little more comfortable that I have this VISA card set up as I can simply move my funds there and use them in the real world...Not that I'm doing that - It's just good to know I can. One never knows when a few extra bucks may be required.

Anyway, thanks for reading again, and joining along on my clueless crypto journey.

Very good glad it is all working out.

Seemed to although I'm still getting my head around it.

Question for the Dog Man...

Do you have fleas?

Juss kidding,

My Uphold card can have any crypto it supports on it and automatically does the conversion at POS. At current exchange rate of said crypto... No fleas.

Do you have to convert to AUD or is it auto?

Hang on a sec. Let me call my banker...

I converted it, but I think it does the conversation at POS from BTC or whatever. I just haven't worked it all out yet.

But that leaves the flea question un-answered.

It is time for our quarterly flea war here. $225.00+ USD for the kits flea meds. Fucking Fleas...

I just learned, from Wirex, that the VISA card does not change crypto automatically at POS. it needs to be done in the way I did it. Convert crypto to fiat on their site then load fiat to the card. I was unaware this was the case to be honest as I expected it to happen automatically. I think they are working on that though.

I am in the same head space you are. I am just trying this for the first time. So I look forward to learning anything I can from your post about these things.

We hit the burger joint a week or so back and purchased lunch with $25 worth if BAT tokens earned from Brave Browser ads.

It was pretty cool to tell that crypto... "Get in my Belly!"*

Lol...I'm afraid of being Bitcoin pizza guy with mine...So I don't spend it. Well, just to test it out I guess. I used it at a cafe today to test the EFT thing. Worked fine by tapping on the machine.

this looks interesting, but i think it does not work with Serbia, the same as wirex.

That's a really good thing that we can use our funds by just exchanging to fiat whenever we need to, instead of having to look for someone else to transfer the funds to our bank account

It is sad that I will not have any exchange linked card at hand :( they are not coming to Venezuela but it is still good to know how it works

I believe they are expanding to more countries so maybe they will come to V. Not sure though. I think there are other options for it though, maybe do a post in LeoFinance asking around? I don't know any so can't help much.

lol it's okay, there are many options in here, but we don't have the card's one.

I'm sure there will be coming more options to choose how we would like to spend our crypto

OK, sounds like you have it all under control.

yes, we can either sell bitcoin or usdt to get fiat via bank transfer, but we will not be able to use crypto debit or credit card so it is a experience that we will be missing :(

Ok, well maybe that'll come in time.

Been entertaining myself waiting for news on which Legos.

I'm going to do a post on it...Once it arrives.

Bitcoin Lego is the title. :)

It's amazing how easy it is, isn't it? Just like a normal card but one you can load up with crypto when you want.

Yep, it's cool. I was surprised it came so quickly also: @tarazkp said it would take ages. Mine came from Singapore though, so it was fast. I'm not sure if that's why his took so long to arrive...Singapore to Finland might take some additional time. Maybe they just improved lead-times though.

Mine was quick too. Might be because the postal service use Elks in Finland?

Yeah, and they stop for vodka every 15 minutes to keep their elkish-asses warm.

Hahaha, yep that sounds about right!

So you changed BTC to AUD on your wirex account, right? When creating that account did you had to give your tax number/details?

That is correct. It takes other crypto's also. Yes, I had to give them my address, name, phone, email etc. Not my TFN though. It is like any other credit card, they all require proof. I had to also nominate a photo ID, I used my divers license, which they have a copy of; They do it that way to prevent money-laundering. It is a requirement of the Australian Tax Office and Wirex wouldn't be able to operate in Australia if they did not do this. I'm not sure for other countries but here it is a requirement.

It´s the same with my bitwala card. I was only interested in whether it is the same with yours. Of course they do this otherwise we could spend our crypto without paying taxes. 😏

Are you able to create an interest account for your bitcoins? I just learned that this is possible for my card. 4.5% subject to weekly change

I think they'll all be similar in this way...As dumb as most governments are, they know what's up when it comes to their taxes.

I'm not sure about the interest account to be honest. I'll look into it.

Nice to see it's working all well. It's a pretty neat idea to have and spend crypto with such easy access, from a provider that could be used on conventional merchant platforms. I will say though, that's a mighty wonderful colour...

I'm sure there's a reason for the colour. This explains it.

That's a surprisingly complex and in depth explanation to them choosing lime green. At least it's a really neat colour that'll glimmer brightly in your wallet. I'm still waiting to see what Legos you've spent a fortune on now.

Lol...Yeah it's minty. I'll do a post about crypto-Lego once it arrives. All will be revealed.

Yes... Must. See. LEGOS!

You're much less clueless than me! I'm just going to sit and wait to just be able to use/coinvert hive rather than having to go through something else, because that does my head in too much XD I mean I was looking at neobanks not too long ago and my brain is already hurting even though this is probably something I should look at carefully because their interest rates on their savings accounts are much better than what I currently have.

But my brain hurts so I ran away instead x_x

I love that this stuff exists and that more of it seems to be coming up :)

It is still fairly early on in this whole crypto-age we're moving towards. I think in time things will be much more simplistic than now. I hope so anyway. For now I want to keep a little up to date, but I'm not spending crypto just yet in any case. Hopefully when I'm ready to do so things are straightforward.

This Wirex card has been pretty simple though. A good experience so far.

Interesting, you're the second person showing me this car and telling me about it. I met the first one, a week or two ago, here in rural Portugal. I guess changing BTC for Lego is a worthy investment.

I'm just not sure if I'd want to make converting my bitcoin for fiat money ( Euros ) too easy.

What other crypto coins can be exchanged to fiat or does it need to be bitcoin? I'm also curious about the fees/ exchange rate.

Let's see when I'll finally have a crypto credit card in my physical wallet :<)

It's been an interesting process for me and I think a valuable one; I've put myself in the position to be able to easily access my crypto int he real world if and when I need to.

The link to Wirex is below so it'll answer all your questions in respect to the currencies they accept.

Thanks for the heads up and info.
I think I'll wait a little longer before I purchase a card like this.

Have a nice day!

Ah ok, yes waiting is a strategy some are taking. All the best.
