Staying active

in #activeyesterday

I feel like compared to other social media platforms, Hive isn't as punishing if you take a break now and then and replenish.

There's no algo overlord watching over your activity and punishing you for having been afk suddenly for a while.

Your followers are either still there or they aren't. They're either going to message you on your post or they aren't.

They are not however, not going to see your post, because their feed is created based on what the algo thinks it wants to see or more like what the algo wants you to see.

I feel like this is something many don't realize, on X for instance I don't even have a feed like I have on hive even if I wanted to. By that, I mean simply seeing tweets based on recent ones first and in that order scroll through them based on who my followers are. All you have is "recent activity" of followers, meaning whenever they leave a comment on a tweet or retweet a tweet it appears there, doesn't have to be the a main tweet they just posted.

It feels like the algo just encourages activity of any kind and discourages those that are trying to create quality over quantity.

I'm not even gonna get started on the "for you" section as that may be even harder to know/understand how exactly it works or how it works against certain accounts you'd wanna see there but never do. Even if you interact with them and try and hint towards the algo that you wanna see the content of this account more, there may be something hindering it from working for you.

Centralized problems.

Our non-existing algo however relies on manual checks, if you're not around then obviously you're not going to see the content you wanna see. You can however be damn sure that if you do wanna see it, it will be there in your feed, even if downvoted to 0.

Kind of crazy that the thing we often dramatisize so much isn't even as censored as the algo on other platforms. Cause there you don't know what you're missing or what it is others may not want you to see.

Anyway, I've been trying some things lately, been introduced to another "community" on sol but I think calling it that would be doing it a favor. Out there it seems very much "pvp" mode, where everyone is against everyone, sort of like when you're entering a free for all FPS game mode. Everyone's trying to trick the other and getting their money, it doesn't matter that they're all using the same blockchain and could create some value by betting on the same token on that blockchain - it's all about quick gains and getting out on top of others.

I feel like some times that happens here as well but not as often, and we do understand longterm benefits better as well as all being under the same token and working towards improving that (even counting HBD).

The more I look outside the more relieved I am that there is such a place like Hive.

I don't think I'd still be in this space if Hive didn't exist.

Sort:

Staying active on HIVE doesn't just mean posting frequently, but above all participating in the platform's life through comments, votes, and interactions with other members. This is what I've practiced since the beginning. However, I have to admit that after six years of HIVE, this is the period where I'm doing it poorly. Maybe I'm just very demoralized, and in April I'll go back to using Hive like I did two months ago. In HIVE, the social component is as important as the content itself; I've always said and done this, until a few weeks ago. !PIZZA

It's okay to take breaks, most of us need them. I usually tend to take them when Hive is doing better but it's been a long time since that's happened, haha.

I can't say much about the algorithm out there because all of my social media accounts are just politics oriented, nothing else. On insta we, my brother and friends, have a group/community where they share reels, so I just feel connected. Otherwise, I don't enjoy much.
It's good to take a break, with or without a big reason. I occasionally do so. I will stay fully active for a month, and will go on a two-day break. On return, all this platform asks for is some engagement and you are good to go.
Moreover, the most beautiful difference between Hive and other platforms is the kind and warm environment. There is no "pvp", and no one is trying to annihilate each other existence.

An other thing is also you can see the last activities of anyone, being it comments, upvotes, wallet etc... While on Facebook you can't know anything, nothing at all beside look a profile and see if it's posting but that's it

Here the gains over others and free for all mode can be seen on some layers 2 tokens, not on hive or hbd

I think another thing hive has over other social media is that it rewards interactions more. Both in the literal folks getting upvoted in comments way but also in the more likely to have positive interactions way. I've had delightful conversations with people in comments which is in my experience incredibly rare on other social media. Except maybe reddit, but that has a high chance of going weird or terrible.

Hive is unique, my friend. It's a blockchain that captivates you once you start exploring it, not only because of its rewards, which are also important, but also because of the community and the number of users committed to it. I truly feel good here, and valued. I try to give back in a positive way.

Now more than ever, Hive has become a warm and safe haven that continues to inspire us to believe and create on our platform 👍

Ya it's good that you can take a break every now and then and the only "punishment" is missing out on some rewards etc. When it comes to social media and online hours etc, I think it's healthy for us all to unplug every now and then for a few weeks and rediscover nature, fitness, chilling, whatever..

That's the great thing about Hive; it's always there for us when we return from our travels and real life. I hope it will always be here.

I think I never missed posting at least once per week since I joined the chain back in 2017 xD So I don't know much about this, but it sure feels more friendly than any social media platform out there :)

I think for me it's more a mental thing with being okay about not posting all the time. I used to feel like I was failing.

I think the way Hive operates promotes a sense of community that's hard to find elsewhere.

let's stay active and positive

The stake is the algorithm

Hive is more than a social media. I think in my opinion is an oasis when we get to depressed with regular web2. I feel that regular social media interaction is that you can be punched even if you don’t mean it. I saw that happening in reddit with people just disliking my post because it was about an unpopular movie. But instagram , facebook etc if you stay too long you get depressed especially in times of war and polarization. Here we are a community it isn’t about just posting and commenting . Many of us know that helping curation accounts, discord events… maybe we start to know more other people and not see them just a computer with different ideas.

Hive is really a very wonderful place to be, now and always. I love it here now and always as well

Cheers

You're absolutely right. On platforms like X or Instagram, it feels like you're working for the algorithm; if you take a break, it's like you're wiped off the map. What I value most about Hive is precisely that: the chronological feed. If someone follows you, they see you. It's an honest relationship between creator and audience, without an invisible "boss" deciding what's relevant and what's not.
