As the post linked to the proposal is merely a question checking if people would be interested in it before I even made the proposal, and since people have been messaging me asking about it, I thought I'd make a more concrete post about how it will work.
The proposal is set to go live in 6 days and is currently still under the threshold of being funded:
Either way, the main things I'll be asking applicants who wanna use it are these:
- Are you building something on Hive?
- Is it something that's relatively unique?
- Are you actively working on it?
Now there won't just be questions, I'll be requiring them to share their repos with me so I as well as Claude can take a look at them.
I decided that closed sourced projects can be accepted as well but it's up to the dev to decide if they want to trust me with looking into the code since I need to make sure they're going to make the most out of the subscription the DHF paid for and not just have a repo as an excuse to get it while working on other things not related to Hive. I'm actively working on many projects myself so I understand if some wouldn't want to trust me looking at their ideas/etc, this isn't something that can be helped since I wanna keep this proposal as transparent and its use as genuine as possible for efficiency of the hive ecosystem.
To receive a new subscription after you've already received one, you will need to prove that you've been actively working on the repo you applied with and/or mention in time if you've pivoted to a different idea/project which still fills the requirements above.
The funds will be sent as HBD including VAT (and potentially some extra fees for transfers/exchanges).
I'll be keeping excessive HBD in savings to accrue interest to potentially afford a few more subscriptions later on since they are only required monthly. As I mentioned in the linked post I will also take a fee for the workload to organize and overview this proposal.
Some things that may be case-to-case decisions.
If your project is relatively unique may be hard to pinpoint. I'll be trying to stay neutral about it, for instance if you're working on another front-end it should maybe offer something unique than say another copy of ecency/peakd/hive.blog/etc.
Over time once you have your project released in MVP and improving, interest may also play a role if you will continue to receive HBD for subscriptions. That means, are there any users actually interested in using your product after it's been launched for some time. If there's very little interest and potential it may mean you won't be accepted for further subscriptions down the line.
I'll also be offering non-devs smaller subscriptions as starters, but you'll need to show you have had some experience and know how to use AI coding effectively through your github/gitlab even if you can't code.
Lastly as I also mentioned in the comments of the linked post, you don't need to use Claude or ChatGPT or Codex, etc, whatever floats your boat as long as there's results and activity that can be tracked.
I'll be also posting monthly updates that may act as a soft promotion towards your projects (if they're launched) and if they're opensource, if not I'll be noting down that you received funding for a closed sourced project you're not ready to launch/share details about yet.
I've personally had a very good experience with AI coding ever since I got started and honestly have been working on too many projects to count at the top of my head. I hope this aid with subscriptions will inspire more people to get busy and create what they may have wanted to create for Hive but have not been able to in the past.

We saw in the last months - thanks to AI - an explosion of users building games, apps and tools for Hive.
None of those helped Hive in my humble opinion.
What we need is not more building, but creativity in finding a way to create a revenue stream, a reason to buy Hive or any meaningful type of income for Hive. Building more apps won´t help.
And yes, the more apps, the more usefuleness, the more potential users. I know this argument, but I don´t believe in it.
We also need some big game, making 2d idle games won't bring anyone, we need something worth of publishers, with good graphic and gameplay, doesn't have to be strictly crypto
most apps doesnt attract users from outside or do any marketing. Building stuff nobody needs ( use it) is a waste IMO. As long it only attracts the 200 active hive users here, it changes nothing.
Its more a people doing the right thing than anything else... or people influencing people, but given todays AI social stance, that one is probably dead on the water, unless a big influencer comes to hive.

Constantly-ish... maybe every 2 or 3 months... depending on family and work... but lately trying to prove people can even build stuff without needing ANY funds... 😎😍

uhhh... maybe... sometimes I doubt myself... but trying to make something that's both unique to me (I don't know everything on Hive) and useful for some people at least.
3 - Are you actively working on it?
I can't say yes, because of the purpose I have here... which is to show people can use AI tools for free if they wish, and even if that sounds like actively, it might take weeks on some platforms. So, it's... depends... on resources.
Would I work more on it if I had more resources... yes, but probably not justifiable for me, given I can also pay for those.
Just trying to make a point... once valid... I will try to take people on it.

A Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus subscription is what, $20 per month? heavier tiers maybe $100-200. anyone genuinely building something has trivial ways to cover this.
the proposal adds a middleman, a fee, "extra fees for transfers/exchanges," and monthly administration to distribute amounts individual devs could self-fund.
And I believe this "lets sponsor your AI" initiative is around for a while, what is the output we get so far?
Is that fee disclosed somewhere?
what is the purpose of this, tho? even weaker odds of shipping maintainable software, and AI-generated code from people who can't review it is exactly the code most likely to become an abandoned security liability that the ecosystem then has to deal with.
A 20$ sub doesn't get you to actually build something valuable. I used the 200$ max 20x version of Claude and didn't hit limits with that tier, I do hit limits with the 90$ monthly sub.
Honestly, anyone using Hive funds for no-Hive branded tools should not be funded at all. Wanna build a business on top of Hive, go for it. Monetize it.
We should be looking at how to generate HBDs because Hive per HBD is rising.
Security liability is real. I've been developping tools for 8 months, while spending 4-5 months on security --> and still not convinced <--
The middleman fees you talk about are meant for people to be able to convert HBD into whatever they use to purchase subscriptions, rather than opening up a leeway of me doing it through gift subs where most transparency goes away. Instead they'll get hbd onchain.
I haven't decided on the fee I'll take yet since this is experimental and unsure the time commitment it'll take to keep tabs on all the applicant's repo's etc, I'm guessing 10-15% as I mentioned in another comment on the previous post about this, max 20% if it becomes a lot, if it becomes more work than expected I'll probably discontinue the experiment or if there's very little results from it.

I’m voting because the DHF is important for supporting Hive’s growth. At the same time, I hope we continue to recognise and support those contributing valuable work outside of DHF funding. There are several community members whose work has produced visible results and who continue to build, improve and add value to Hive every day.
