Digital negative painting, painting with the erase tool can bring to your arsenal a rapid effective way for throwing down concept art. Will work for most art software as long layers can be used.
First up bang out a sketch, or lay on a photo. Nowt fancy ya dont want to dwell, move like the hounds of hell.
Chuck on another layer and spray over the sketch, reduce the opacity to 50%-70% and yer are ready to roll like blue thunder.
Flip on to the erase tool and off the sketch layer. Call merlins dragon from the eternal mist, its time to work the magick. Erase areas where light would hit the surface. Throw it down fast, the more thought the worst it will be.
Now fly in close like a tactical bomber with opacity back up and draw tool on. Mop up a bit, redefine anything clumsy, dally not .
Boom now the legacy it almost for-filled. Drop another layer underneath and colour however you like. As you used the eraser the lower layer will shine through like a jack 'o' lantern, its quick to change and experiment.
