Hello!
It's Labor Day here in the USA which is a holiday for some reason. LOL !! I know the reason it says it is celebrated and that is no little thing exactly, but how it became a paid holiday, I'm not quite sure. Still...I shant complain about having a day off of work and being paid for it, whatever the reason. I've never had any traditions about special ways to celebrate it.
I made this piece of art a couple of nights ago. The intention was to have a large painted area that was only paint and some collage papers randomly glued around the painted area. How much space or what part of the space the collage papers took up was left to randomness, so while I was in the moment, you can see the area I ended up choosing to collage. When I got it that far, I found I wasn't quite happy with the "just painted" area. I had originally had small hints of dark magenta peaking through the dark blue. Something just wasn't right about it to my eyes, so I took some lighter blue paint and smidged it around over the darker blue, mostly covering the magenta. Still.... I wasn't happy, so I decided to look through my "doors and windows" packet that I had previously cut out of some books and magazines. I wasn't sure what I was looking for. I came across this large door that was nearly the same color as my blue paint was. It was a much longer piece than you see here as the door was very tall and a more complete version of a door. As I was flipping through the packet I took it out to possibly consider, but really not thinking it would work. In the end though, I liked it and so I cut it off to fit in the painted area and glued it on. It wasn't at all in my original plan, but somehow I really like how it turned out.

Last night I made this one. I didn't have a real plan in mind except that there was going to be a big number on it somewhere and would have a lot of teal, blue or aqua in the background. I met both those expectations. 😂 It was quite fun to make and I liked how it turned out. After all the paint went on, the lavender'ish triangle to the left of the three was the only surface collage paper on it and the last thing I added to finish.
The 3 piece still had a lot of paper involved. I had covered the top completely with random papers before adding the paint and had also put some random pieces on the sides since it is a wrapped canvas surface. I painted and minimally decorated each side, top and bottom so they would look nice if hung on a wall. It was fun to make.

I added this just for the fun of it. I was doodling around one night when I wasn't sure what I wanted to start next. I don't consider it a valid finished piece and I'm not sure I will do anything else with it, but it was fun to me that if I looked at it just right, it seemed to have depth, so be careful you don't trip and fall down in there. Maybe I should have put up some rails. 😄

I noticed the last two evenings, just as the sun was starting down behind the trees that the fall shadows are just beginning, meaning the sun has started it's fall move in the sky. I always enjoy the spring and fall shadows as the sun comes in my windows at more of a slant and in the fall, when there is a breeze, the shadows of the blowing leaves dance on the walls. I really love that.
Normally our August is the most solid, blistering hot month we have here. This year, although it was plenty hot some days, other days it was not so blistering as if autumn was trying to sneak it's way in early. I am curious what the next few months will bring as the weather goes.
Ok! Time to see what I will do next.
Take Care and Stay Safe,
Jacey
A highly attractive collage-style work: the use of blue and similar colors is very pleasing. The last one is a labyrinthine proposal, almost a mise en abyme. Best regards, @jacey.boldart.
Thanks so much for voting my work.
It's fun that you mentioned a labyrinth or a mise en abyme. I can see it could be that as well once you said it. 😊
...and Thank you for stopping by.
Hi Jacey, happy Labor Day. I agree, no complaints about a paid holiday!
I like your 'framed' door, very creative! The colours of the 3s is really nice. I actually bought a book on paper art but it's packed away in a box in the storage facility for my furniture while waiting for the transfer of my house. Hoping to get those creative juices going once I'm settled in.
The door addition surprised me a little. I like when that happens. I was not sure on it, so Friday night when I created the rest of the piece and found the door, I let it rest over night without gluing it on to get a fresh opinion from myself the next morning. 😅 The next morning as you see, I decided it belonged there. It does add a little happy with the sunny light brightening the door and the blue sky and trees out the window. Must have been a garden door in it's previous life.
A book on paper art? That sounds fun. I know it may be a while, but I'm excited for you. So many happy things ahead to try. I painted a lot of years before deciding on a whim to play with the paper and for sure I had no idea I would love it so much. I'm so enamored with the papers and creating the collage papers is about as fun as making the art pieces to me. It's brought me so much joy in the last year and a half, learning and experimenting.
I knew from things that have shown up in your posts here or there that you liked art and had accumulated some pieces over time, but till you said it recently, I didn't know you had a big desire from long past to create your own. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
