It's All In The Eyes

Ello!
Saturday! Yay!
I wondered again what to say that is not about my art, to go with my art. I put my small container of scrappy things I've written along the way beside my desk. It is not diary things, just random stuff that at some point as I've cleaned out over the years, I tore out of notebooks or the such to keep and re-read and see if any of it is anything I would want to keep. A time or two I thought I was going to go through all of it and keep or throw out accordingly, but then I gave up pretty fast and went onto other things.
So after I loaded my photos below, I picked up the box and shuffled through a couple of pieces and I found where I wrote the below. I did not write this recently, but now I have no idea how long ago, probably in the last 10 years.
I do remember that I was in a Kmart parking lot when I first saw the seagulls. That store is no longer there.

~

"I saw a seagull playing on the wind.
I am nowhere near the ocean.
It caused me to think back some years ago, 30? 25? when all of the sudden seagulls appeared around parking lots.... foraging for food through what shoppers dropped.
I believe that should have been a sign of something, although I have no idea what. Not like a sign from God (or maybe?)..... but a sign that the birds were telling us something... something was wrong with our coast?.. the ocean water?... something?... like the canary in the mine--
Nature picks up on things that we are not used to seeing with our eyes.... or that cannot be seen with our eyes and of which we have not become aware enough to pick up on.
Today I wonder what the seagulls were trying to tell us."

After I typed the above, I took the two small slips of paper and was about to drop them into the trash basket. I thought as I included the words on these snippets in my posts, I would then throw the papers away, but as my hand hovered over the basket, I hesitated and decided I would take them to my art table and make collage paper out of them instead.

Now back to my wonky art !
A few nights ago, as I was about to close things down at my art table to get ready for bed, I had an idea about something I might want to try. Unfortunately, I forget more ideas than I remember...LOL...I have so many!! So in the last 2 moments, I grabbed this black paper and some scraps that were just lying in front of me and I glued these pieces together so it would remind me of my idea. It worked ! I remembered !

However, the next morning when I went to open the window blinds, it was laying this way on my table and it kind of looked like a face. When I saw it, I said "what are you looking at?" as I carried on to the kitchen to gather my yogurt, water, coffee and other things that would go around with me to my work desk.

That night, when once again it was time to shut down the art table and go to bed, there the reminder still hovered. For the fun of it, I took two sizes of circles that were at the edge of the scrap pile and made eyeballs in various positions and took photos of them. I don't know why I was compelled to do that, but it was fun and funny and so I made a little animation this morning with some of them to share. They still make me grin.

The black scrap of paper was not really supposed to be part of an art piece. It is a page from a cheap journal that I found I didn't like the paper quality after I got it home, but then after this, I felt compelled to include anyway. As you can see from the first photo, I have not glued any eyeballs to the piece I created with it, but who knows, I could change my mind.
Once I played with the eyes though, it is kind of hard not to see it as a face.
Time to get the dishwasher going and maybe the clothes washer too. Hope you all have a wonderful day or evening, whatever time it is where you are.
Love you !

Greetings Jacey,

So enjoyed reading your lettre from home.

The gif is delightful! The different size circles especially!

The eyes/circles to my Art eye.....are just what the artwork needs as there are circles on the other layers. That is not to say it must be eyes....however they do lend an element of surprise. ^__^

Kindest Regards, Bleujay

Hello!

I get what you are saying about the circles possibly pulling the relationship together for the three main pieces. But then, how to which placement for which expression?? Delimas.... delimas....😄

Thank you for stopping over!

I love it, really original and you also had a lot of fun with it, which is all that counts.

Btw, what are you doing with these artworks, if I may ask?

Thank you !

You may ask anything you like. Mostly, I make stacks with them

🤣

The walls in my house are also nearly covered in art, the majority my own art, more of my paintings than collages and then I buy art sometimes, so there are other people's art here too.

I only started including collage in March of 2024, so most of it so far is smaller, 5x7, 6x8, 8x8.... oh... and much smaller..LOL I have only a few pieces that are larger than those sizes that are collages or mixed media that includes collage. I kind of expect some larger collage pieces will show up in the future, but I don't have a plan about it.

I also thought I might find some avenue to let them go in if I ever retire. If I die all the sudden, it will be like the art that was found in the giant dumpsters after an artist was gone.... only smaller....LOL

Jokes aside, you could try sell them. I'm sure there would be buyers for them. With the technology we have today, you could list them on various platforms.

Thank you!

That has crossed my mind as a possibility for the future. I painted for a long time and I have sold some paintings, although I never tried to directly. If someone saw them and wanted to buy one, I considered it. As for the ones that include collage, I feel like I am still learning on that. I have made some I really like and others, not so much.

You don't have to like them, it's enough if the buyer likes them enough to pay the price. You know the saying: "Beauty is in the eye or the beholder", or something like that 😄

Yes... you are right. One time, a friend from my school days wanted a painting. I decided to give her one. I let her choose any one she wanted and the one she chose, to me was not as good as half of the others that were available. Inside.... I laughed.

I had the same experience with my bags. I used to make denim bags and I made a couple, right the first ones, that later seemed not up to my later standards, and those were the first I sold 😄 So ... you never know.
