More Of My Funky Art....And Nonsense

Hello! How's it going?
For me, at least for this moment, it's going fine. It's Saturday morning, I have the whole day with no particular plan except to randomly do a few light chores and in between, whatever I want to do! I like days like this.
You know I have been playing at collage for a while, mostly with the awesome painted papers that I have been making I'm not about to be tired of that, but just like in any other genre, there are different kinds of collage. One of the classics is using bits from magazines and books or etc and arranging them in a way that they create a new piece. I am just starting to dip my toe in (hmmmm, wonder if I could really do one with my toes making note for later) 😄 ... mostly from books I have bought in thrift shops. Some people make surreal pieces, like a woman in a dress from the 50s & 60s sitting on top of a cake with her legs dangling down where a few slices have been cut out.... or things like that. Others use the same materials for total abstracts as well. Even though I have acquired a good handful of books, I can't say I can totally see my way on it, but I am beginning to toy with it a little more. I don't really have a plan, but no worries, because that is my "normal".
This is one I played with recently. Odd, unrelated bits of images arranged together. I think it has an autumn vibe, which is perfect for this season we are going into. Originally, where the rectangle piece is with the smaller hand that is holding the leaf up, I had put a brown door. It looked fine I thought and I had no intention to change it. It was there when I put the silhouette of the walking person on center left and marked in the lines beneath the place where the door was. I thought that person might be walking home or visiting a neighbor... or something. Later when I saw an image that included the piece with the hand, I cut out the hand for later. A little LATER.... for no real reason, I laid the hand piece over the door and it was the same size and found that I liked the way it talked to the other pieces that were there, so I glued it over the door. Now there is a hidden door, but you can't tell, because you are not supposed to know where hidden doors are, right ? 😂 Actually, the hidden door fact has nothing whatsoever to do with anything.
So this one was made using all scavenged book photo bits with the one exception of the piece of orange and white book page I previously painted as collage paper at the bottom. It's just abstract of course as that is my main thing, but I may do more abstract while I learn to use the images better and maybe work in some fun surreal pieces as I learn. Overall, my eyes are pleased with the arrangment.

Sometimes I randomly think things and for some reason I will write them down, not always, but sometimes. I end up with pieces of paper here and there and I also write on the flattened brown paper grocery bags that I put on my art table while I am creating. The other night I had gathered some of the floating paper and I was going to replace the brown paper with a new clean sheet, so I got out my journal that is not a journal and wrote down anything I might want to go back to later. It is not always thoughts, it is sometimes the name of a song or an artist that I was hearing or watching while playing.
A couple of things I wrote were:
"I am sorry for all the suffering of all the people in the past...... but I was not there."
"Everything works out for the best.....NO IT DOESN'T!!
What prompted me to write those things whenever I wrote them are lost on the wind now.
Most of this piece I created upside down from how it is here. I left the art table and came back later and found I liked it better this way. I added a couple more accent pieces and then it was done.

I already had some different colors of markers, but I didn't have a white one with a fine point, so I bought one. I did some asemic writing on the blue/green collage paper I previously made and then used some of it to make this piece. I like the affect.

Right after I began to typing in my text to go with these photos, my doorbell rang and before I could get there, a soft knocking on my door. I thought it was going to be my Aunt from next door bringing me a plate that belongs to my Mother so I could take it with me when I go to visit Mom tomorrow. Good thing I peaked out first as it was a huge man I did not know. As I turned to head back to work on my post, I softly said to the air "go away". Who goes door to door selling things these days? When I was growing up, mostly in the 60s there were still plenty of folks that tried to sell things door to door including the famous Avon Lady. Back in the day it really didn't seem like it was too dangerous, not only to go to stranger's doors, but to open your door to a stranger, but these days? Oh heck no! You rarely see folks going door to door now, but if you are smart or at least a smart woman living alone, no way... NO WAY would you ever open the door to a stranger. It's a shame the world has come to this, but that's just the way it is.
Here is one of my hybrids. Mostly my colorful collage papers that I hole-punched for the fun of it, along with a lighthouse, tiny ship with water reflection and a small moon at the top from book images. I'd love to find a way to use both together in a cohesive way. It might could use more of something, but this is how it is for now.

Now we're back closer to my norm. Fun colors, right? Made entirely from papers I painted, stenciled or pressed. It has a little energy.

I told about my toothache before and last Monday I had a root canal and crown. Glad it is done. I have another tooth that has a piece broke off (in the back) that has never hurt, but I decided to get a crown for it as well, so in two weeks, back to the dentist I go. I told my sister it was because the holidays would be here soon and I didn't want to worry about which side of my mouth I was chewing things on when it was time for the feasts! ha ha... gotta have those priorities in order when it comes to good food. I've made myself laugh with that thought more than once in the last few days. 🍗 🍣 😋 I need a happy face icon with a fork and spoon in it's hand!
OK... enough of my drivel. I hope you are all doing well and that your hearts are happy.
Love you!

Looking great and the drivel is entertaining too 😁

Thank you! I entertain myself all the time LOL!!

Thanks for stopping in!

I can remember at school many years ago, my art teacher asked us to bring the centre photo of a magazine in - the one that had the staples in. We then added bits from other magazines to it. I think I had a gorilla swinging through an office on some sort of vine. I often think about having another go but not getting round to it!

I loved art class in school, but it somehow never lasted long enough for me. I don't remember doing collage though. Maybe we did and I forgot, that's always possible. It sounds like you made a very fun collage. You could get a small journal book and make small ones now and then, but for sure life gets busy and it certainly can be hard to find the time for such things.

Because it is my hobby, I am older and live alone, "Things" stay out on and around my art table all the time. I spend the last several hours, at least, of every day doing something there. Sometimes it's just sorting or rearranging or the such, but most times I'm playing in the papers I have made before or making some more and making an effort to put something together.

It's a lot of fun to me.

Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate it.

Your drivel and nonsense is always very entertaining 😃

Nonsense and drivel..... my specialties. 😄

Thanks for stopping over!
