Life has a funny way of pointing you toward the things that matter most. For me, that realization came during my countless school visits in my current role as a Marketing and Communications Manager in the education industry.
Every visit tells me a story. I meet students filled with potential, but I also see a common struggle: weak English proficiency—especially in secondary schools, and more so in Chinese-medium schools. What I noticed is not just about exams; it’s the way poor English affects students’ confidence, their ability to express themselves, and eventually, how they adapt to college life.
The more I saw this, the more it tugged at me. I couldn’t just brush it off as “part of the system.” Something inside me said, “Why not step in? Why not do something about it?”
That’s how this new chapter began.
Starting next year, I will be venturing into SPM English tuition, but not the traditional kind. I believe students don’t just need more worksheets or heavier textbooks. They need simplified teaching that makes learning impactful. English doesn’t have to feel like a burden. It can be broken down, made practical, and even enjoyable when taught with clarity and purpose.
As I prepare, I find myself deep in research, such as studying exam formats, analyzing common mistakes, and creating simplified content for my website. And here’s the beautiful part: I’m actually learning faster myself. The process of simplifying, re-writing, and designing teaching content has become a double win. I’m “killing two birds with one stone”, building resources for students while sharpening my own understanding at the same time.
This journey excites me. It feels like I’m stepping into something meaningful, but as someone who truly cares about bridging the gap I see so clearly in our schools today.
At the end of the day, my hope is simple: that students will walk away not only with better exam results but with the confidence to use English as a tool for their future. If they can stand a little taller, speak a little clearer, and feel a little braver because of what they’ve learned, that will be worth everything.
This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.
That's a really good initiative Josh!
Thank you sis! Thinking outside of a box to design my program to be fun, simple and applicable in reality and in exams.
Too bad my youngest niece this year already SPM
