Who can forget as a child the captivating spectacle of watching Tarzan survey the jungle from his tree house and then swinging from vine to vine to reach his destination.

No doubt about it, it was “the great escape” boyhood fantasy. I love the fact that there are people around who have retained that sense of adventure, and taken the idea to the next level.

No doubt impractical, yet deep down I would love to have a tree house getaway. That's not going to happen, but this week my theme is “the great escape” so I at least wanted to escape to a cyber daydream and explore some of the tree houses people have shared on the web. As a kid a tree house represents a sense of adventure and excitement, trees are simply a given. As we age we begin to appreciate the wondrous nature of trees, and many of us recognize them as our partners and the foundation of our world – more about that tomorrow.
For now, I hope you can take a few minutes out and image yourself spending a week in one of these tree houses.
Zweifellos unpraktisch, aber ganz ehrlich ich würde gerne ein Baumhaus besitzen. Das wird nicht passieren, aber in dieser Woche ist mein Thema "the Great Escape", also wollte ich zumindest in einen Cyber-Traum verweilen und einige der Baumhäuser erkunden, die Menschen ins Internet gestellt haben. Als Kind repräsentiert ein Baumhaus ein Gefühl von Abenteuer und Aufregung, Bäume waren einfach eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Als Erwachsene beginnen wir die wundersame Natur der Bäume zu schätzen, und viele von uns erkennen sie als unsere Partner und die Grundlage unserer Welt -- mehr dazu morgen.
Vorerst hoffe ich, dass du dir ein paar Minuten Zeit nimmst um dir vorzustellen, wie es wäre, eine Woche in einem dieser Baumhäuser zu verbringen.

Don't tell anyone, but I used to live in a tree house village. The experiment was to see what would happen if you lived in a place where your feet never touched the ground from the time you arrived at home. We had bridges to get from one house to another, and most of the houses and all the comunal area were up in the trees.
We wanted to experiment with how your health and dreams were affected by living high up. We found that people got sick less often and dreams were vivid. We would invite people to sleep over just to experience the dreaming. There were about 11 of us living up there, including two children that were born in the village. It was a magical time, and I am sorry that it did not last longer.
One day, I would like to build a village again. It is not easy, since you don't want the buildings to actually lean against the trees, lest they can damage them, so they have to built on platforms that go around the trees, leaving ample space for their growth. Seeing all your pictures makes me wish I was there now.

Wow da beginnt bei mir wieder die Träumerei. Ich wollte schon immer ein Baumhaus (son als 5 Jähriger), ein Ort wo du Eins mit dem Wald wirst und der rustikale Charm, die Ruhe und die frische Luft, die Seele und den Körper heilen.
Die Natur ist eben immer noch die beste Therapie. Manchmal möchte ich einfach alles hinter mir lassen und für eine gewisse Zeit ohne Handy, TV, Radio... in ein Haus im Wald leben. So ein Baumhaus wäre ideal dafür und schmiegt sich in die Formen des Waldes ein!
