I know $65 bucks is a lot of money for some people but I totally get it. Let me ask a question, why are you spending hours on Steem then while you can be out there gettin' that cash?

Read your article and read all the comments. Let me give u my excuse for not buying steem. Its a bad investment. It loses value when market goes down and doesn't gain value when market goes up. My steemmonster investment has gone 10x while steem lost 90% of its value.

Honestly I'm pretty shook by what I found out earlier. I even had a deeper sinking feeling about the economic situation here. I mean for starters if a person buys 500 STEEM power they still have a $0.00 vote so they won't see any tangible difference.
Secondly I didn't even realize the effects that the STEEM Backed Dollar situation had on the inflation situation. In the last 365 days STEEM has actually inflated over 17%. That is why I'm totally shook and if I would have known that I would have never invested to get to 10,000 SP back in November. But the situation was so confusing and hard to predict because there was no way to tell how much SBD was going to get converted to STEEM ......etc.
I thought the Inflation was 8.59% which is too high in the first place but that we were getting back 2+ % back by holding STEEM power which mitigated the risk. But then even on top of that we have the handful of larger investors / witnesses / founders who are able to reap the majority of the rewards and Steemit INC just slamming the price every month.
Now realizing the inflation rate was actually 17%, and 10% of the reward pool is being pulled away in the Worker Proposal System which is being paid in SBD which are going for $0.61 and falling and that will only get paid to very few proposals.
Honestly when stuff that has less than 5% inflation is falling like BTC and Litecoin then the premise of investing in STEEM doesn't look promising.
I have done the math and STEEM would have to get down to $0.01 and then I would have to invest $10,000 and others who were supportive of my content would have to do the same to have any sort of power in the reward pool. Then maybe a new crew could wash out some of the problems and get into witness positions and actually have a chance to turn a decent profit. Somewhat of a problem is always going to be Steemit INC though. They need to be running a skeleton crew right now and we have no clue how much they are paying some of those employees.

I understand your point but let us look past those who truly cannot afford it. There are many in countries where that is a weeks salary.
Of all the Planktons, how many could afford $65? There are tens of thousands of accounts on here that could be upgraded to Minnow instantly. We could see another 1,000 Minnows overnight if people wanted to.
The problem is that the most dedicated are those who have the larger accounts. Watching the numbers, we are seeing Dolphins and Orcas growing meaning the larger Minnows and Dolphins are buying and powering up to get to the next level.
The Planktons are not doing that as a group. It is a shame but it is not going to change no matter what the price.
I totally hear where you're coming from... it's really not a steem issue, it's a mindset problem in the world we see today.
I grew up poor, livin' in section 8 housing in my teens paying like $75 rent/month and on food stamps. I could of been that guy, doing nothing about it. People need to help themselves and start figuring things out. I always stated that the best investment in life, is to invest in oneself. 9 out of 10 just won't do it.
As for Steem, yeah we can all vote and help people become minnows but most will just power it down and cash out. Like I said it's the poverty mindset prob... not a steem prob. It just a world we live in today.
I truly don't have the answer how humans can change their behavior. They must learn to do it themselves I guess... adversity is the best cure for change.

People getting in the game now donβt realize how easy it is to reach that 500 SP level. $65 is all it takes. It took me forever the first go round when I first started because Steem was at its high point when I started.
When I got back in the game here a few months ago, I started at like 150 SP in my account and have purchased about 15K Steem for powering up and buying various Steem Engine tokens. In my opinion, this is the best time to invest in yourself for the platform.
When I got first In was May 2017 and steem was like 1.20, as a new person I was like f this Iβm buying 500 steem instantly. It did eventually pay off as in 6 months steem went to $6 and sold for some profits lol

As a weight loss coach trying to help obese and morbidly obese people lose weight, I surely know all about excuses, @stackin. I hear my old excuses over and over again. I wrote a book about weight loss excuses and how to get over them. People buy my book, love it, and still do not try. It's exhausting and disheartening, and part of the reason I do other things besides weight loss coaching now.
As for powering up STEEM, we have SPUD 6 by @streetstyle tomorrow, Oct 1, and I will participate on one of my blogs again. There are a lot of smaller blogs doing this each month now, and it is empowering to see.
I'm a minnow on one blog here, and a fake minnow on the other two, thanks to delegations. Everything I do is to help other small blogs grow while increasing my own sp too. You are right to push the idea that now is the time to move up in the ranks. Who knows how long we will have this cheap opportunity?
You are no one on STEEM without some sp. Growing it is where everyone's focus should be now. It is hard to make new and small people understand this. It took me over a year myself. I'm not offended at all by your post, but encouraged instead.

Minnow is the first major milestone. Your Steem power now has some weight to it. You have influence, more than you did before.
This is the point where you can delegate and start getting decent returns. You can make your Steem work for you, not the other way around. It really opens a lot of doors, you know?
