Enter My Haiku Contest!!!

If I had more time, I'd enter all the wonderful contests Steemit has to offer. Instead, I started my own!

If you have 30 seconds to spare and you can write 17 syllables, you can win 2 SBD, author rewards, and some free publicity.

Read below for more about the contest instructions, how to participate, awards, and how I'll select a winner.

Contest Instructions

Write a haiku about anything. Use previous haikus, if you have any!

This must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm . Here’s an example:

Vdux writes haikus

Some are good and some are bad

Just like football teams

You may submit multiple haikus, but you need to make each haiku its own reply. Each one will be considered a separate entry.

** For future contests, I'm putting together a list of themes. Suggest one by replying here: Need Your Suggestion for Contest Theme! **

How to Participate

  1. Reply below with your haiku. Deadine: 11:59 pm UTC, May 6, 2018.
  2. Upvote this post. Deadline: 11:59 pm UTC, May 6, 2018.

That's it! But...

You should also resteem this post to increase the winner's prize and give yourself some free exposure! You can participate without resteeming -- I don't give preference -- but if you do resteem, it only helps you.

Also, post your entry on your own blog! Mention @vdux and I'll give you an upvote and resteem your post.

Awards

Winner gets:

  • 2 SBD
  • Half of this post's author awards
  • One free "shout-out" for winning
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

One runner-up gets:

  • One free "shout-out" for winning
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse to resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

How I Will Select the Winner

Within 2 days after the deadline, I will read all entries and choose a winner and runner-up. While I'll take upvotes into consideration, my selection will reflect my personal preference based on the entries you submit.

Feel free to reuse a haiku from the past and write as many as you want!

PS thank you to everybody who've written haikus for my previous contests:

Good, but can you change it to fit the 5-7-5 like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm ?

Down the rabbit hole! Nice entry!

Since we are allowed multiple entries, I'll just put another one here. Thanks again for the contest @vdux

Hey that's a cool haiku and a sweet picture. For this contest I do traditional haiku only -- it's the fairest way to make sure everybody has the same rules. 5-7-5 only. Can you try again?

Thanks. It shoud be okay now.

I dig it. Nice theme, good tone, cool image. Thanks!

You're the runner-up! https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/winner-alert-winner-alert-contest-winner-announced-next-contest-announced

I just sent you 1 SBD, a little bonus because the post payout was higher than usual.

Many thanks @vdux for the contest. Here is my entry:

Title: Sunset

sunset-3374135_1280.jpg

The sky turning red
I walk home as the day ends
The sun rest tonight

I love this haiku. BUT like the other one, I need 5-7-5 format for this contest. Sorry...try again?

My bad. It has been edited.

Noted. Looks good! Thanks!

This is my other entry.

The bonus is a live stream.... water

A lot of haikus on that post!

Here's one from me:

Great! And timely. I resteemed, enjoy your fiesta!

I forget them all
And I am waking up now
Vivid dreams are gone

Verdad! Isn't that the worst feeling?

Rabbit bounds away
Tail up in the morning air
There is no danger

Nice! Thank you for the haiku! Good luck!

okay - I guess I should come up with a real entry - rather than just the tongue-in-cheek one about Cheetah.

Snow gives way to storms
life-giving rain with thunder
Spring in Wyoming.

It all counts. How's the weather out there? We only just finally got spring in the mid-Atlantic.

Spring here brings rain, the occasional snowfall through Mother's Day (at worst), and the start of storm season. I've shared a could of storm pictures in recent days - ones I took last year on a couple of very stormy days.

Ah. Here flowers and trees are blooming but we're still kinda cold around here. It's a bad mix -- we get the allergies from pollen without the enjoyment of sun and warmth! Sigh.

I have trouble with grass pollen - not so much now, after giving up grains for several lengthy periods... it's helped a lot.

Ugh I have the worst allergies. Can't even cut my own grass! Maybe I need to cut out grains, too? Hmm...

Thanks again for the haiku! I announced the winner https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/winner-alert-winner-alert-contest-winner-announced-next-contest-announced.

I was on allergy shots for 6 years as a teen... Those didn't help much, but being off grains for 6 months (the first time) and a year (the second time) did.

You entered it again! Super!

Friends to enemies.
Devastation and carnage.
Didn't say Uno!

I think I will stick to one for this week, I wrote a fair few but can't find where I save them, this as the only one I remembered, must have been the best. Leaving it untitled as nothing seems to fit right :)

Very sweet. One is ok! Especially a good one!

With this vdux's haiku
I'm gonna buy new blue shoes
Show me the money!

Bonus for the meme. Is "vdux's" one syllable? If not, can you put in into 5-7-5 format? I'm a stickler, yes, but only in the name of fairness!!!

Hello there! Well, I really dont know if "vdux's" is one syllable, but according to http://www.haikusyllablecounter.com it has Syllables Per Line: 5 7 5

English sometimes is a misterious language to me

Anyway! Let's keep having fun, my dear vdux!

And shoooow me the moooonkkkeyyy!

OK,OK, I'll count it. Thanks!

I'll show you the monkey:

Good one!

I really enjoyed this haiku! Much better than the fake haikus at CNN! I announced the winner https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/winner-alert-winner-alert-contest-winner-announced-next-contest-announced.

Thanks for running this fun use of time. 😎

Good to know. New contest later this week!

Existential OJ

BA1E5CF6-2897-4F11-B4A4-A67C26A7D9E7.jpeg

Ah, but do you strain the pulp out or take it straight?

I saw a version of these lines on the side of an oj bottle, and I heard echoes of the human condition, our separation from the source, and the heartache that we experience after a romantic breakup.

In answer to your question, I take it straight...

It's an interesting metaphor. As humans naturally separate into families, cliques, and coteries, we also had great capacity to come together to make sweet, tasty, refreshing, nourishing juice -- but only when shaken by an external force.

Thanks again for the haiku! I announced the winner https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/winner-alert-winner-alert-contest-winner-announced-next-contest-announced.

Hey, good to hear back from you. Wonderful way of extending the metaphor :) Yup, just saw your results, congratulations!

Here is my entry @vdux

I'm with you! Great haiku, thanks for the entry!

Hey @vdux :)

Here's my entry. Hope you enjoy it. Have a good one!

Nice! Pic, too. Glad you wrote a haiku for my contest!

Greetings, @vdux,

Nice to "meet" you here on Steemit. Thanks for your challenge.

Thank you again, very kindly, for your inspiring contest.

😄😇😄

@creatr

It's great. I resteemed the post, too. Thanks for the entry! I appreciate you!

Thanks a lot, on all counts. ;)

Hi @vdux - Here's my entry - I nearly missed this one...

ARMAGEDDON!

Wait, wait. No humans = no haikus = no haiku contests. What's the deal???

Scenario 1

Mmmm, let me see...
Pretty soon @vdux contest becomes so popular, that judging becomes impossible - riots and protest break out. @vdux presses the "red botton" problem solved, many nations follow soon after...then soon after calm is restored!

Scenario 2
AI - is the operative word. They soon write and judge profound Haiku - we are not needed!
Where do they learn? From a link the found in an ancient script called "Steemit" by a "pre-AI" author called @vdux...here is the link they find in the script...

This must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm . Here’s an example:

Vdux writes haikus

Some are good and some are bad

Just like football teams

How do you know I'm not already AI?

PS - thanks again for the haiku! I announced the winner https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/winner-alert-winner-alert-contest-winner-announced-next-contest-announced.

Lol! - @vdux, no reason why you can't be AI already - True!

An interesting haiku contest... let's see, anything goes? Very well then...

I like what you did there. Thanks for the haiku!

Thanks for this contest @vdux! Here is my entry;

Hey I'll count it as an entry but can't award a prize. For this contest, haikus need to be one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm . Thank you for entering! Play again when I open my next contest!!!

Fastest animal on land
Original poem

Cheetah always gets me.

Best response ever.
To overzealous cheetah.
Big cat needs to rest.

(Haiku for you, @vdux)

Brilliant! You guys got my back, and a "free" contest entry.

Future past, success
Failure, love hate, skinny fat

Now fill in the last 5 syllables and you'll have a haiku!

haiku.....

I don't think crypto traders like SP. It used to be a 2 year power down before. When it was changed to a 3 month schedule, it was met with a price increase from $0.10 to $1. (After the first 3 month period ended)

Not to mention, random shitcoins with zero usage are worth billions, far more than Steem, despite having nothing like SP. It's all liquid, and it works for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other shitcoins.

I'm with you, definitely. Do you want to put that into a haiku?
