Petro Coin Raises $735 Million | Lisk Relaunches | Coinbase adds SegWit

update image_Fotor.jpg

The winds of change have been blowing through the crypto space today and yesterday.

Lisk finally changed their logo among other notable big changes during their relaunch yesterday.
Bitfinex now has an account with another major bank after Wells Fargo cut ties.
Coinbase is implementing SegWit.
And to top it all off, Venezuela’s cryptocurrency is now in it’s presale phase.
Alright, let’s get into it.

Lisk Relaunch

What’s new:

  • Logo
  • Website
  • Upcoming release of Lisk Core 1.0.0

Their website now offers a Blockchain Academy which provides educational information on things like:

  • Defining a blockchain and its use cases
  • Defining a cryptocurrency
  • Explaining decentralization
  • Explaining consensus protocol

In the next few weeks keep an eye out for the release of the Lisk Core 1.0.0, it will set the stage for the following release of their Sidechain Development Kit.

Coinbase implements SegWit this week.

What this means for users of coinbase:

If you accidentally send Bitcoin Cash to a Bitcoin wallet, they will no longer be able to recover those funds.

Bitfinex and Tether ties, new account with ING

Bitfinex was in the news a couple months ago when word got out that they were subpoenaed by U.S. regulators due to its ties with Tether, not only is Bitfinex an exchange that lists Tether, but they both share many of the same managing team.

Tether has always been shrouded with doubt in regards to whether or not they do indeed have enough USD in their reserves to support their one-to-one ratio of USD to Tether.

There has also been speculation about Tether creating new coins to purchase Bitcoin.
If this is true than it would account for some of the support that Bitcoin has seen these past months.

Wells Fargo ended their relationship with Bitfinex back in December, but now it looks like Bitfinex has rebounded into the arms of ING.

Venezuela’s Petro token

The presale for the crypto token of Venezuela called Petro coin, began yesterday and it already raised about $735 million. The total supply of coins will be 100 million and each coin will be backed by a barrel of oil.

If you want to participate in this one be sure to check the official links I’ve posted down below.

The main motivating force for this coin is so the Venezuelan government can get around the sanctions put in place by the U.S. and European Union.

It should come as no surprise that this one is surrounded by claims of it being illegal and the U.S. has even warned that if its citizens take part in this sale they’ll be in violation of the sanctions.

A government run cryptocurrency is a perfect example of an oxymoron, and something tells me this wasn’t designed to benefit the people of Venezuela either.

Let’s keep an eye on this one and see how it plays out, no doubt it will influence other governments one way or the other.

Petro coin is a scam, you will see. You still need a scammy human to allocate oil to some shitcoin. Upvote and resteem.

As you mentioned I don’t see how is Petro a crypto? My understanding of it is it’s government controlled, government issued and backed by a government controlled asset. Wouldn’t this make it a regular currency?

Sort of yeah. It's a cryptocurrency, but state controlled, so practically more like a regular currency just digital. When we hear cryptocurrency we think Bitcoin, which is open and free, but this isn't as far as I understand. Also if it's really backed by a barrell oil it's at least backed by something sort of like the USDollar used to be before they abolished the gold standard, USD currently is backed by nothing as far as I know...

I always think decentralized but then again some of these coins aren’t that decentralized

Just like Ripple is controlled by banks. There is, according, no defition about what a crypto coins is. For most people it is a crypto when it gets listed on coinmarketcap!

Fair enough. Personally I don’t think of Ripple as crypto since it’s controlled by a central source.

No, I do not think Maduro's intentions are anything good. But I think this is already another step for the massive adoption of cryptocurrencies and, I believe as well, that Venezuelan society will be one of the most familiarised when dealing with crypto, which can be a huge advantage for them in the medium to long term. Hopefully it goes this way, because Venezuelan people don't deserve this.

I have been trying to get people from #venezuela on steemit. Bitcoin was not helping them much with huge fees. (it's faster now though)

"A government run cryptocurrency is a perfect example of an oxymoron"

... with a heavy emphasis on moron.

I hope this helps the Venezuelan's economy and their government doesn't screw this up too.

Unfortunately I don’t think this is a likely outcome.

EL PETRO es un estafa, es para financiar a un gobierno que literal mata de hambre a su poblacion, no iniviertar es que estos bandidos sigan en el poder destruyendo a mi pais

Wow, i like your post 👍 @heiditravels
thanks for sharing

Change is constant
But the change when it comes to crypto issues is not a surprise to me. Because I know that cryptos and other digital currencies is the key currency for tomorrow

Interesting, amazing information, the wind of change is blowing, better days ahead.

Lots of good information in this post thanks for posting.😃👍👏👏👏👏

This petro coin thing is perplexing as fuck to me.
Sounds, looks and smells like a quick money grab. By looks of it it's working. I won't be participating in it. Interesting to see what will happen with it though.

Definitely a ploy of that government to get a LOT more money. What they do with it will probably be disappointing, especially to the people of Venezuela.

I will really love to participate but I think I can because it absolutely beyond my power

What is with the comments on steemit?
Half of these look like copy and paste robots that could (and probably do) stand under any post with these tags.
WTF?

Yeah I’m not a fan of the unauthentic comments either.

The Petro is an exit scam for a corrupt regime..

enjoying & wonderful!

This just goes out to show how far the cryptocurrency world is advancing... Lisk coin? fingers crossed... great analysis @heiditravels ... i'm anticipating the launch..

Cheers for the info...

The Lisk relaunch did a lot for me today. It really seems like a "real" coin now that could stay around for a whie

What if every countries launch their own crypto backed by their own commodity???
That would be interesting...

Can one really trust a government to generate a crypto currency when with all the oil they couldn't maintain a reasonable value for their existing fiat currency? Hope all goes well in Venezuela especially for the people.

Note on their website, they quickly moved from the tech from Ethereum to NEM. That does not inspire confidence that this late in the game they are still not certain on their base tech/blockchain.

Excited about Lisk rebranding!

Doubtful anything the Venezuelan government puts out regarding currency. This likely will not end well.

This will be interesting to watch..... thanks for the update!
