Is the world really ready for crypto? I don't know, but I know if people treat the future the same as crypto then there is going to be a massive job crisis. That might seem like a big jump, but let me explain.
Majority of the people I talk to about crypt fall into one of three categories.
1. They think it's a bubble, scam or some other negative thought.
2. They are interested but don't want to learn, it seems complicated or they don't have time.
3. They are interested and want to learn more.
Regardless of the people in category 1, those people will always exist and ride the negative train until they have to adapt or evolve. We already know that these people are going to be the last one's ready for the future.
It is the second group that I am most concerned about. These are the people that could be hit the hardest if a job crisis takes over the world. Here... let me try to put it into perspective.
Back in the mid to late 70's and through the early 80's there was a period where we lost a ton of factory jobs for a slew of reason. Some were taken over by technology, computers and automated machines. Some jobs were lost to emerging over sea markets. Factories closed at a very quick rate and have been falling ever since. There are not too many factories left in America. There are old factory towns that are ghost towns now, remnants of the past.
It still took a few decades to really show the repercussions, but now we know. The closing of the factories left millions without jobs and most of the people above that fall in line with number 1 or number 2 were hit by the decline the hardest.
It was the people that realized that there was emerging technology, and then took the effort to learn an aspect of it. Those were the people that kept their jobs, the ones that knew how to run the computers or fix the machines. It was the average worker that got cut.
Now imagine the same thing happening, but happening so much faster. There are people going to their job at the bank as a teller, or driving a truck for Walmart that think they have job security. They hear people talking about crypto, but they decide to not worry about it because it is a bubble and foolish.
Then in five years - seven years, those same people are going to be begging the government for assistance because the blockchain has changed banking forever and those drivers will be fired for driverless trucks. But it won't stop there. Will servers be needed at restaurants when that too can become automated? Will there be a need for bars at all with such sophisticated dating apps?
When the Internet of things takes over, will we need so many teachers with technology lessons taking over aspects of classroom life? Will we need financial advisors or will they be crpto advisors? What if you're a cashier at a fast food or grocery store? Do you think you'll have a job in 5 years?
Technology is moving incredibly fast. Just 10 years ago the iPhone was invented and 10 years from now we could have true artificial intelligence and be on Mars.
So back to my point... Does crypto prove we're not ready for the future?
Crypto is growing at an incredible rate, but that is because all the smart people are getting in or at least trying to figure it out. The average person still wants nothing to do with it for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest hurdles to get busy moms and older men using crypto is the learning curve. You do have to have some technological understanding to invest or to convert to a fiat currency.
The ones that are willing to learn and that are learning are ready for the future, but Bitcoin is almost 10 years old and such a small number of people even understand the technology, that I am afraid we, as a society, are not ready for the future. Crypto has just exposed humanities weakness when facing a rapidly changing future.
What are your thoughts? Are we really ready for the future?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
Thanks for reading.
In the future it will be the uber-literate and everyone else.
I can send my nephew a BTC but what the fuck does he know what to do with it?
How can I even START to explain to him it's value, or how he can now BUY A HOUSE?
There is a literacy DIVIDE in this world and there are the KNOW-HAVES and KNOW-NOTs?
I agree 1000%. I also think that people can learn to read so-to-speak. They don't have to stay illiterate. I hope more start accepting there is a future and they want to be part of it.
Thanks for the great point and reply. Have not seen you in a little while and I hope you are doing well. Happy New year!
I've been thinking about this recently. On one hand, I'm surprised that some of the people I know and meet are already into crypto and have learned some of the skills that go with it.
On the other hand, there are so many people who miss what's going on. Perhaps they are not curious. Many people think it is too hard. I was intimidated by Bitcoin, tried to understand it and then gave up. If I had stuck with it, did some more reading and the hard work of learning something new... I might be a millionaire today.
... but now I have Steemit and Bitshares. I'm very much looking forward to the future.
People just don't want to put in the effort in my opinion. I have not met many that are even familiar with what Bitcoin. It is very interesting. Bitchares is one that I have not looked into much. I'm in the buying a bunch of coins phase and just holding. Thanks for the reply, bud. Happy new year
I am very excited about where we are going, if someone had told me a year ago that I would be earning cryptocurrency and writing blogs I would have not believed it. I like to think of myself as a savvy 70 year old, my daughter @onetree introduced me to steemit and well nothing ventured nothing gained, I have given it my best shot. I have found plenty of people in category 2, I feel like shaking them. The world is going to change beyond comprehension in the next ten years, this is a time that people should be retooling for the future. AI, the blockchain and internet of things will radically transform our world. Thanks for a good post, I will resteem it and spread the message.
I think your age gives you a great perspective that is valuable on this platform and you're doing great. Blogging and making crypto is still new most of society, but we're doing it and we are way ahead of the curve. I appreciate your feedback. I just upvoted and commented on one of your posts to say thank you! Happy New year
Thanks so much for the kind words. I have been watching out for your posts you have a valuable insight into this new world.
Great crypto write 👍
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
You are highly welcome 👍💗
how do you think or your prediction about bitcoin price in 2018 whether it will be increasing or going down.
I just want to survey some people's opinions
thank you for your response to success
I personally think it will go up from the $14K it started at. I think it still has a long ways to go, but it will not have the market dominance it enjoys now. Just my thoughts. You got a new follower, thanks for reading.
Once governments start integrating it, average people will start to care about it. However the riches of crypto will remain to those who recognize it's potential.
I bet you're right. The real riches are the people now, who have enough money to invest properly into crypto before it gets integrated. Thanks for the reply!
Thank you for having
True, I Agree!!
Good point, often three types of people...
Thank you, and you are right. lol, funny how that works out. you got a new follower.
I actually made a video about it
Great video. Reminds me of Gary Vaynerchuck talking about ignore what you are bad at and triple down on your strengths. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome thanks for watching. I'm reading The Science of Getting Rich.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
The mental mentality has to shift from viewing crypto as fiat like the governments use to control folks to seeing it as a wild west and anything goes if you want to not be on government dole out (keeping you a slave).
I assume most people reading this are in category 3. I at least hope I am, but who knows, maybe I'm in category 2 without knowing it. I basically agree with every single point you make here. The only thing which might cause the change to happen slowly enough for people to adopt, is if employers are as reluctant to adopt as the employees. On the other hand, those businesses might meet a not so fortunate fate.
80% of the people i talk to are comes under category 1 and another 10% haven't heard or know anything about cryptocurrency or bitcoin.
