@ecency - Beautiful and Seamlessly Integrating Mobile and Desktop

in #ecency3 years ago (edited)

It 'only' took almost 4 years, but I've finally weaned myself off old reliable, hive blog. I do feel a little sad as I know people still work hard to continually improve it and I'm grateful to them for providing a great introduction and simple introduction, but I guess it was time I let go of my comfort blanket and grew up.

image.png

@ecency started out as @esteemapp, and I have constantly dipped in and out of since its inception. In its early days, I found it messy, unintuitive and buggy and whilst appreciating the effort and the hard work that was going into it, as an old fella, I much prefer simple and usable over bells and whistles. I'm 55, death beckons and I don't have time to be fannying around with stuff!

I'm not sure all who all the people are behind it but I have shared an occasional comment with @good-karma who is obviously a really nice bloke. Does this matter? To me, yes it does and it's the reason I keep having another go every time a new update is announced. The important thing for me was the mobile app. I still think the future is mobile and with the demise of @partiko I needed an app that wasn't fiddly and finally. @ecency fits the bill. Perfectly! If you haven't tried it yet, get down the Playstore or Appstore or whatever and give it a try!

image.png

Beautifully simple, excellent clarity and a whole load of features and it looks and more importantly, feels exactly like the desktop app.

So let's start with the main post creation screen which I love as its large and has an equally sized preview screen beside it. Like everything in the app, its clear and well laid out with all the menus and writing tools perfectly positioned.

image.png

Besides the perfect interface and all the usual features needed to bring you maximum enjoyment to your time on Hive, it has some super features which you may not be aware of...

image.png

Need to check out the edit history? No problem. This handy little dropdown menu packs in so much in such a small space and finding out the edit history is essential for anyone running contests and quizzes, like my alt account, talking of which...

image.png

As well as being able to simply switch to your Alt, there are lots of other interesting features on this menu, including 'snippets' which is basically a notepad that allows you to create notes, or snippets and save them for use later.

Gallery is a very useful, err, gallery of all the pictures you've used in your posts. Schedules is a list of your scheduled posts and bookmarks is a list of the favourite posts you've book marked obviously.

These abilities make into a complete browser experience for Hive, and the potential of this fact is what is so exciting.

But the best feature, especially for a reader like me is this....

image.png

Suggestions of what to read next, which because its Hive and not Google, is actually useful, not advertising and often relevant to me!

An exceptionally top drawer, well thought out product thats born out of hard work and a passion to get it right. Seriously, if you haven't checked out @ecency for a while, do it. Listen to the simple old fella and if you discover something I haven't yet, leave me a comment!

Now all I need to do is work out how to format posts and do fancy voodoo shit with my photos!
Sort:

I'm a big @ecency fan as well. wouldn't use any other app!

I always thought it flew under the radar a little on Hive, especially with all the PeakD mentions but I'm really happy to see all the love it's getting!
Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend :-)

I suppose it does if you going to compare to peaks. but after partiko this was the best mobile experience for me. Thanks for the the lovely surprise. I hope you !LUV !PIZZA

I love Ecency as well and agree with you.. Good-Karma is the best! Thanks for putting together this great info post!

Thank you for dropping by with a lovely comment. People matter and that, in my opinion, rightly influence the product we use. That 'niceness' seems to become an intrinsic part of the product.
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks again :-)

I have used the Ecency phone app since the beginning when I first began posting on the blockchain in 2017. Even through all the builds and glitches, it was that niceness and sincere effort that kept me here.

@ecency literally became the only front end I use. It has a few issues, like for example, the button to write a post does not appear on every single page, I need to head back to the home page to write a post, or the dark theme that eventually switches back to clear mode and it hurts my eyes. But overall it has good features, like "read next", and a very beautiful and modern interface.

Hive need more and better designers, Ecency and 3speak have been doing a great job on the design department, their interfaces look both sleek and modern and I love them!

Hi and thanks for replying.
The issue of design is one that I have been banging on about ever since I joined. My usual observation on MANY posts and comments was that devs spent all their time 'devving' because that's what they do, and what our devs here do very well, but left design as a footnote. Techies just care about things working and forget that poor, elderly, non-geeks have to use their toys too if we want to achieve the fabled mass adoption.
To general users, it's the usability and overall look, feel and experience of using something that matters the most. When the product is feature-rich and adds value to its core function, you're on a winner and that's what Ecency gives us.

If you have any suggestions for improvement, talk to @good-karma, I've always found him very approachable and genuinely nice, even in the early days when I might have been my normally slightly brusque self in my criticism.

I have also noticed some great posts and involvement from yourself recently so thank you and best wishes for your success on Hive. The status-quo here needs shaking up from time to time ;-)

Have a great weekend :-)

And have an HBI share as thanks as my vote is worthless!

Thank you, could you specify/help us which pages write post button doesn't show, we should fix that asap. Also dark theme switching bug looks like bug unless your Operating system doing it.

I don't know if it is intentional, but when I go to
https://ecency.com
The first time I open the page the write button, search bar and even the theme button do not show up, to fix it I click anywhere and then on the Ecency logo (top left) which leads me to
https://ecency.com/@igormuba/feed
And then it shows the buttons and search bar normally
However, if I refresh the page it disappears again

_2021_07_24_at_17.32.36.jpg

That's a bug. We will check, our landing page suppose to not show those but feed and logged in people should be able to see those, we will check.

I still primarily use hive.blog though I occasionally use ecency or peakd on the desktop. However, ecency is a must have mobile app. No mobile app is perfect for posting because I want a real keyboard, mouse and larger screen for that. But for shorter posts, commenting and curating it is excellent.

I agree about the difficulty using mobile Apps to write posts but for people like me who are mainly here to read, comment and and use Hive more like social media, the App has driven me to the desktop version, I love the flow between desktop and app!
If I was a major content provider, then I think I'd still be using hive.blog as it does what it does very well and has a huge space to work in. The world is mobile crazy these days and Hive needs to be as mobile friendly as possible to get more users onboard!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
image.png

So just so I can clarify. @ecency is a channel in the ecency app?

ecency.com is the App but like people, businesses and entities can have user-names too, so the official channel for the app is @ecency or if you wish to use tags in your post to highlight subject matter, you can also use #ecency to direct your post into a community or interest group.
Hope this helps. Keep asking questions here, that's the only way to get on and grow. Best wishes :-)

Ecency is amazing. I still use both but you’ll thank yourself the more you use Ecency

It is mate! Whole new experience on Hive for me, but its that integration and flow from desktop to app that's impressing me most as I am constantly switching between the two all day, and it's an uninterruptable experience!
Have a great weekend my friend and thanks for dropping by!

I'm digging @ecency now as well (desktop version, anyway). Attention to small details makes the interface super smooth and user friendly imo. Like the way it remembers where you were on the previous page and automatically scrolls there when you click the back button in the browser. Love that.

Yes, I'd forgotten that. I could have written all night about it. I just wish them every success as they have kept on going and going to turn it into the product it is today and I'm really happy to see so many people giving them some love.
Have a great weekend mate and thanks for dropping by.

Thank you, we have some great things planned for this year, if all goes well, it will certainly improve your experience. Team is as always hard at work 🙏👍 time to make some waves 🌊 ❤️

Welcome. Everything you've seen from me is from the app.

Well let's just hope some of your talent can rub off through the app onto me!
Hope you both have an amazing weekend.
image.png

Rather than you didn't have to do that or something like man, you shouldn't have.

Thank you.

Wonderful stuff. Makes me more interested in figuring out the bells and whistles of the app as they say.

I also really like this application, and of course it is impressive that new functions are being added, in a word, there are updates. Thanks a lot. Good luck to all.

I use @ecency everyday.
For me, it has the best UI/UX compared to all blogging dApps on Hive.

i started using ecency today and i found it so smooth and well featured app . earning points on ecency also attactive .
just i would like to add some suggestion like the icon mark for quote which i could not find so far and i had to do manually .

I recently started using ecency more (this week actually) and I am starting to enjoy it more than Hive and Peakd. I had no idea about the snippets part! Thank you for sharing the features you enjoyed. I do find it very reader friendly and for someone like me who ends up making few edits of a single post, I like going back to see them.

I love this app for so may reasons, for one it's the only dapp that I change the currency that will show on my potential payout and total value y my hive account I. Philippine currency.

The unfortunate thing with the incompetent internet service in the Philippines makes it a little harder to enjoy all the features of the app, just like the lag on just viewing other people's comments or sometimes you have to refresh to load the page.

But overall, I love how simple and easy it is to use the @ecency dapp.

And oh, this is the only front end that gives rewards to it's users and actively give upvotes on good posts as their way of supporting the author.

❤️❤️❤️

How does one delegate to @ecency? I would like to give something back as they have been supporting my blog of late

Hi mate, thanks for dropping by. I think if we simply tag @good-karma he will pop-in and answer your question! I would also be interested to find out. Thanks :-)

You can go to your wallet and delegate some Hive Power to @ecency account.

Thanks.... I shall do so forthwith !!!

At no stage did it ask me for my private or posting key.... I did have to sign into Hivesigner though.

I use Ecency since it was eSteem. Nowadays this is my favorite Hive blockchain application. I am writing this comment from the mobile (Android) version of Ecency.

And thats the point mate, its that flow from using it on desktop to mobile that makes it so useable as well as easy and pretty to use. I wasn't a fan early doors as I thought it had potential but it was a bit buggy and just not quite right but the devs have worked endlessly to create a fabulous product!

I just saw a friend of mine using ecency to post. I was just curious and checked out what is ecency. It led me to your post. I didnt know that ecency was esteemapp. I used esteemapp a lot back then. Thanks for sharing.

Glad that you are still around.

I've just joined Ecency today, and after looking at HIVE and a couple of the others, I am definitely finding Ecency the easiest to use. Maybe an age thing (not too far off your own, though I'd rather say we're mature, experienced, even wizened, rather than old 😁) but I agree that the easier it is and the least amount of fannying around required, the better.

It certainly helps to discover such a welcoming, friendly and helpful community. I hope that will help it continue to grow.

Welcome to Hive! The reason I advocate Ecency is that it gets people started in a manner that appears to be more similar to regular blogging and social media than the other front ends we have. Its a steep learning curve getting your head around crypto blogging and all these strange terms and technologies and they've worked so hard to get it right!
The devs who created it are also genuinely nice people. One of the things you'll find here is that devs, huge stakeholders and anyone involved in any aspect of running the chain is accessible and will chat happily wither here or on discord.

Anyway, welcome and if you need any help or advice, drop a comment on a post.

First thing, an introduce yourself post! Use the first tag as #introduceyourself and engage with people is the only way.....
Hmmmmm.....
Welcome or welcome back, I'm loving the bowie Gif!!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to exploring the community and making some interesting connections.
