Ads have arrived on Steemit.com. It was pointed out to me by @investwarrior.

They only show up when you are not logged in at Steemit.com as far as I can tell.

When you ARE logged in you don't see anything.

They are placed at the bottom of any blogpost after the comments.

And in the Feed and sidebar.

Pretty clever actually, you need a Steem Account to not see the ads. And a Steem Account is no longer free (well, unless you want to wait 3 weeks or know a person with RC's to create one for you).

Cheapest way I know to get an account instantly with USD is with Steem Ninja. For $2 you get a Steem account + 15SP delegation for 90 days and as it appears for now at least an ad free steemit.com experience. Sign up here.

But even without an account I don't find the placement of the ads intrusive and I hope they will help Steemit inc. cover some costs in USD.

Also remember Steemit.com is just one of many frontends to access the Steem Blockchain.

There are many more and they will show the same content:

Busy.org, Steempeak, Steeve, Surfer (Desktop app) or on Mobile Partiko or Esteem.

And next to that you have specialised apps that will only show content created through their app like:

Appics or Steepshot.

Those ads are not bad at all. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with these.

This may help you understand why some care about this issue:

While advertising can be seen as necessary for economic growth, it is not without social costs.

Advertising frequently uses psychological pressure (for example, appealing to feelings of inadequacy) on the intended consumer, which may be harmful.

... advertising leads to an overall increase in consumption in society; "Advertising serves not so much to advertise products as to promote consumption as a way of life."[

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_advertising

We already have built in advertising on Steem via the Steem token and different services built on Steem, not sure why we need more of the old "bad" fiat money.

Non-intrusive advertising should be OK with most bloggers, it is when it is over powering or you are unable to decide for yourself what you wish to see it becomes a problem. Most are selling something indirectly through pull marketing using blogging techniques.

Thanks for update!

Very clever! I for one, am quite grateful for steemit. I try all the front ends and they all have this or that glitch so i keep coming back to it. I use my phone to steem. It's annoying enough! I can't deal with glitches in the software too! Lol

Great news! Thanks for sharing! Hope the wedding was fun!!!

Have you tried Partiko or Esteem apps on your phone?

Yes! Both, i actually just deleted them. I would give them a try again they will likely get better as they are updated.

I've no problem with ads once they are not impacting on the experience of using the site. I do love how clean and simple the interface is but a few stratigically placed ads won't hurt as long as they don't over do it. Its probably badly needed by now.

Oh, really well done.
If that is indeed the case then they really surprised me, I was expecting ads for everybody all around Steemit.com, but they went further ahead and are trying to convert the ads not only in instant money, but also in more long term users.

I hope the ads bring some added revenue to steemit inc as well. I’ll be playing in some of the tournaments hosted today, so I may see you on the battlefield. Good luck to you and take care! ✌️

@exyle, Yes brother, we need some steps of trials and at the end of the day we don't know how things will work out but at this moment in my opinion this is appreciable aspect and step for sure.

Enjoy your Steemmonsters Journey brother.

Stay Blessed. 🙂

Thanks for keeping us up to date! I find no problem with there being ads as long as it keeps the Steem going!

Same here.

If ads are needed to keep a community going, i see a sad future for Steem.

I have bot even noticed which is a great way to start. I often browse the site without logging in from the office so that will be interesting to see. I also hope this helps with some outside revenue.

Saw the SM tournaments too late and have chores and shopping to do today! So will miss them but I am sure more are to come.

I don't like ads but I am satisfied with this compromise.

When you ARE logged in you don't see anything.

That's what I observed as well , been clicking them genrously !!

I don't see it disturbing provided it does not cover up the whole screen and pop up for those with account. An ads free for subscriber is fair enough though.

@exyle
Congratulations well done

I agree, those don't look that intrusive at all. That is pretty awesome that you don't see them if you are logged in as well. Though I probably wouldn't mind even if you did. Thanks for passing along this info that was passed along to you! :)

Hope it helps, but wont affect me so I dont care much haha

Thats very sad to hear.
Helps who?

What is very sad to hear???

That you dont care about other members being tracked and our data being sold to data brokers and ad networks, just for profit.
Also that you dont care about Steemit (Steem) becoming just another corporate data mining platform.

Here are few points on why ads is an unsustainable solution:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_advertising

I don't use steemit, so it doesn't affect me. Anyone who is worried about this is probably someone capable of being in the same boat.

I don't use steemit, so it doesn't affect me.
Its like saying: what i cant see, cant hurt me, while eating food stuffed with sugar.

It will affect the rest of the community and in long term, affect you.

I can see an advertisement of Apple Inc below the content in your page. Initially steemit was not ready to place these ads on their site.

Ads are good way to generate money on website but new users should not judge steemit.com just because it shows ads all the time (logged off users). This should not be a deterrent for new user on-boarding.

This looks pretty bad, it should be max the size of the post :/

Thank you so much for participating the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!

We see soon how this all go work :)
But it is cool to see new things all time come up :)

And hey what you think this that they @thedarkoverlord start use steemit? :)

didn't seen them still but its ok on the side layout of the website :)

Amazing to see how positive everyone is about ads on Steemit.

Just a reminder, ads only exist to manipulate you into buying / consuming stuff / services you dont need.

Once you start with ads there is no turning back, they will get more and more intrusive. As a bonus users get datamined and tracked, crypto related tracking is the new digital oil.

Amazing who easy people will give away their and others data for few crypto tokens.

Do you think Steemit will remove ads once Steem goes to the moon?
I doubt it.
