Feathered Friday - Woodpeckers, House Sparrows and Great Tits

Thanks to @nelinoeva, I found out about Feathered Friday which is managed by @melinda010100

So this is my first post for #featheredfriday !

From the balcony and most of our windows, we can see directly into the beautiful garden right in front of us. Typical for Austria and many other European cities, we live in a big block, and within this block is usually lots of green with gardens and trees. There are more and more garages being put in those blocks, but ours is still mostly green. Beside our block stretches a big park with many tall trees, and a river with even more tall trees and bushes. So we are lucky to have many birds around us. The birds in the garden stay mostly within our block, especially the small birds.

We also get visits from a Woodpecker in the late spring and early summer. We haven't seen him since last year, but now he came back again.

The weather has been awful and we had near constant rain, so once the rain stopped for a little and the sun tried to come through for a few minutes, this little Woodpecker had a little rest on the broken branch, which broke of in a bad storm last summer. He had been busy all day and was now trying to dry his wet feathers and have a rest.

He did not come alone this year either! No, there is now a Woodpecker couple who hunt for bugs in the garden and feed each other too. Instead of embedding, here is a link to the video of the Woodpecker couple, as I'm not sure if videos are even allowed for Feathered Friday: The Woodpecker Pair

And here is the link to the video of the the Woodpecker cleaning his wet feathers

Now to the House Sparrows and the Great-Tits. Like I mentioned I have a feeder hanging on an extended metal pole from the balcony. Every day, there is a great number of Sparrows and a few Great-Tits coming by to feed.

It gets quite busy at the feeder in the morning and the late afternoon

The birds are used to us being out on the balcony and feed anyway. They are also not worried about our 3 cats, Murli, Samantha and Sonic. The cats are thankfully used to it, as it's been similar to this everywhere they lived and they have seen birds close by their whole lives. They do like to watch them, as it's like Kitty-TV to them, but not even once did they ever try to jump onto the railing, or anywhere near the feeder, nor hunt any of the birds.

I love to watch birds, they are just lovely and I'm so glad I'm able to see them like this every day. I'm looking forward to see all the other bird photographs!

The cats and myself wish everyone a wonderful Friday <3

This is so lovely to have the birds around. Same is here - sparrows, woodpeckers and great tits are around us. I just never managed to make a decent photo of the woodpecker. There are here all year round and we have a game while walking the dogs, my hubby and I - who will spot the Woody first.:-)

Wonderful post for #featheredfriday. Upped and resteemed!

Yes sounds exactly like here. Haha I know, it's difficult to spot the Woodpecker most of the time. And they are so fast! Usually my hubby is first in spotting them :-D

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and the resteem and upvote!
Have a nice Friday!

Aww thank you! Yes it’s lovely where we are. You would not think we’re living in a city. I’m going to do a post with pictures of our area soon, then you’ll have an idea how it looks around here.
It is so awesome to have all those birds to watch! Kitty-TV is on all day ;-)
