Miss. Delicious #18: GuangDong Morning tea and it's plethora of sumptuous dishes

in #food8 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit friends:

Today, i'm visiting one of ShenZhen's most authentic restaurants for some morning tea ! Since I grew up in GuangDong, I'm well accustomed to the culinary styles of that province, whenever I taste food from GuangDong, a part of me is brought back to my childhood.

GuangDong style food is one of the four main styles of food in China, not only is their cooking meticulous, it is also a fusion of western and eastern styles. They are noted for being able to cook food which bring out the most natural and fresh taste as well as having nutritional and health value.

There is a saying in Chinese that is "Food is in Guangdong" and they're right, the province is very well known for their delicacies and many different styles of cooking the same foods.

Guangdong's morning tea is something you can never become bored of, even if you eat it every single day! I've actually visited this restaurant twice already, but it was only the second time that I actually got to eat there. The first time, the whole restaurant was booked out privately for a Wedding. I took a picture of this car which was beautifully decorated for the newly wed's, below the head lights, you can see some words of blessings for the newly wed's, they're meant to wish them a happy life together.

The second visit to this restaurant, I was finally able to go in and eat. The restaurant itself is situated inside a large tower building.

As you can see, the interior design and decor of the restaurant is very beautiful.

The menu looks like a magazine cover, especially that big fish on the cover. It looks quite formidable if you ask me.. GuangDong is actually known as the Seafood Empire, so they really do know how to eat all sorts of seafood.

So, lets have a taste of their morning tea.

There are the snack dishes, and dimsum:

Cheung Fun platter with a variety of different stuffing's such as Prawn, Sweetcorn and beef. All very tasty!

Steamed Chicken Feet in Fermented bean sauce, something I've eaten perhaps 100 times and yet, it tastes as delicious as the first time I tried it.

Har Gow or Prawn Dumplings need no introduction, i'm sure everybody has tried this before in China Town!

Steamed flat rice noodles with minced meat and preserved vegetables are also one of my favourite dishes, it's the most famous dish from Shunde, GuangDong and has around 90 years of history. The noodles are known for being thin, invigorating, slippery and soft. This is one dish you will not find in other cities.

Stir Fried Seasonal Vegetables

Custard buns, they have a milky and buttery smell.

Steamed Scallops with Vermicelli

Bamboo Meatballs, these are made with mince beef and fresh bamboo mashed together into a meatball. Finally it's served with a slightly sour sauce making it very delicious indeed!

Fresh Grouper, this is the big fish picture on the menu. We didn't have many people so we ordered a smaller fish instead.

The soup of choice is the winter melon pork rib soup.

Pork Loins cooked with Ginger and Wine

Longon Jelly, extremely tasty.

Tripe / Belly in XO Sauce

When it comes to GuangDong cuisine, there are almost endless dishes to try, so we'll have plenty more to explore in the future. I'd like to know, when you visit a restaurant, do you prefer having one main dish, or, do you prefer to have a large variety of small dishes?

Maybe Shenzhen first. Last to Shenzhen is even longer than Guangzhou.

I'd like to know, when you visit a restaurant, do you prefer having one main dish, or, do you prefer to have a large variety of small dishes?

I tend to large variety of small dishes

That's how I like it too, I think morning tea and Dim sum serve this purpose very well actually!
