A 3 Part Weekend Freewrite Challenge a little late but still good :)

in #freewrite4 years ago

I stumbled across the #freewrite challenge a few weeks ago, and I really enjoy it. It's a simple challenge, yet it's a really good exercise. The challenge is hosted by @mariannewest and supported by the #freewriters community. This post is an entry into 3-Part Weekend Freewrite on 5/30/2020. You can visit the original challenge below.

I know the weekend is over, yet I still wanted to attempt the challenge. In this challenge there are three separate writing prompts. Each one is given a five minutes for it's creation. The uniqueness of the challenge is to avoid reading the next prompt before having written the first prompt's #freewrite. When done the three prompt will have hopefully combined into a unique story. So here's my #Freewrite for this challenge:

They believe in an absurdity, because they deep down know that it is more useful than the Truth. Yet truth be told. They gave up on Truth a long time ago. They've been sticking with absurdity for so long. They're enslaved to it. They're denial of Truth has left with them with no other options. For to embrace truth now, would mean admitting the absurdity that is now their legacy.

How can they go back. How could they admit to their followers, that they've been promoting absurdity. At this point it seems absurd to admit that it was all absurdity. Their titles and positions have long shielded them from the Truth.

At first the absurdity worked. Over time however, it's become more and more clear. Harder and harder to disguise what's obviously absurd. The consequence of their devotion to absurdity, is that now truth is their foe. Are they destined to be surrounded by absurdity forever, or will truth finally push them out into the open. Forcing they're eyes to adjust to it's light.

She always visited in summer, and usually she wore some striped, silky sundress. For ever since she was little child. Colorful stripped sundresses have been her go to attire. Her visits brought much joy to the household. Her bright innocent eyes, so trusting by nature, would flicker as she listened to the adults lavish stories. She was young, and good hearted. She cherished the time she spent. Sitting by the fire and listening to the tall tales of absurdity. Never questioning the validity, only inquiring for more details. Her genuine smile would soften everyone's hearts.

The phone starting ringing. Immediately they were pulled away from their memories of their little angel in a summer dress. She had just recently gone back home to get parents. Now they were sitting in kitchen remembering the joy she had brought. That was until the phone rang.

Answering the phone they were surprised to hear the voice of an official. He was calling from their little angels home town, and it was concerning her. Their hearts quickened, was she okay? Then slightly more relieved as the official said yes.

Yet now a little suspension arose. Why was he calling? Well it turns out that they're little angel had gotten into a dispute with a visiting official. The same official that was now calling them. For he had visited her school to tell the kids truth, and educate them on certain subjects. Yet he had barely gotten a few sentences in, before their little angel rose her hand in polite disagreement. The harder he tried to explain Truth, the more agitated their angel became. Her agitation had concerned the official, and this was why he was calling.
