I/m a fairly prepared dude but there's a few areas I lack in and growing is one of them. Ask me to hunt, trap, snare, navigate in the wilderness, defend myself, build a shelter, do some first aid, make a fire, make ammo and so on...Yeah, I go it...But grow some stuff? Hmm...It's that I can't do it, it's a lack of opportunity, room mostly. We're rectifying that though as my wife loves it in the garden. We're working on it.
Good luck with the thyme...Having fresh herbs in the garden is so nice...Nothing quite like fresh herbs in cooking.
