Sam's World - Getting my hands dirty while crypto is down

in #gardening6 years ago (edited)

As a filmmaker who adjusted his life to fit Steemit I have felt in the last few months a growing awareness that my deeper creative desires are not being met. It is therefore my intention with this series to post short films as often as possible which will re-focus my energy on this almost forgotten aspect of my life and in doing so attract towards me those bigger film projects I do so enjoy getting stuck into.

Sam's World was chosen as the name for the series to fit the description on my Steemit profile.

I will still write posts on Steemit but not so many now. Films will be my primary way of getting my message across. I will keep them short and I will edit them a little so that you may enjoy them all the more.

In this first part I take the camera to work to show you what it looks like when a man who has been sat at a computer for two years tries to swing a pick axe & a shovel.

Writing is just so time consuming. One can say so much more in a short video.

True, but when I am steeming I actually RARELY watch videos, esp if the author doesn't tell me in the written post how many mins. Over 2 mins? almost never. If you want REAL engagement, some text is critical. And in the end, steem is about ENGAGEMENT.

Good idea saying how long the films are. And you're right that people don't tend to watch them. I ran some tests two years ago and found this to be the case but imagined now that DTube has had time to pick up the pace that more people would use it as they use YouTube and actually watch them. Let's see....

I will repost this one on YouTube today and do another post with the YouTube link. At least this way people can watch it without having to leave steemit.

Assuming one doesn't get too caught up in all the fun of editing. Which after a few years off is actually quite tricky for me! In time the process will become more streamlined.

The key thing is that I enjoy this process much more than the writing of an article :)

I agree that it's great to do video, which takes me much less time than a written post. However, it is important to include a written description, as many people on Steemit seem to be looking at the written content more.

I find this strange, as in most other spheres, video and audio seem to be very popular.

Agreed! Very strange. It's the nature of Steemit I guess. Watching the film doesn't give rewards. Just the upvote. I uploaded this film on YouTube yesterday and re-posted it as a steemit post to see if it made a difference. And... zero views today! haha :)

Yep, adding a detailed description is a good idea. I am determined to keep doing this...

Getting back to fueling the creative fires? Yes. Swinging a pick axe? Oh yes! :) Just keep putting some Abraham into my world intermittently though... :) Dirty hands are sacred hands in my world. :)

Thank you for your consistent enthusiasm! You're great you are x

Yes, the daily Abrahams will never stop. Esteban will continue the tradition when I've had enough in 50 years ;)

And yes yes yes, putting hands in the soil is so damn great! I didn't realise how much I missed it till now.

Inspiring as always you are

Always look on the bright side of life ;)
