My First 30 Days On Hive & What I Found: The Battle of Steemit vs Hive, Someone Is Getting Powered Down

in #gem4 years ago (edited)

Joining Steemit & Hive has been an amazing journey! Im a dyslexic, computer illiterate, ex heroin addict and ex convict who is horrible with spelling and grammar.

But I'm so much more than that.

I'm an Entrepreneur, Published Author, Successful Business Owner, DIY King, Interventionist, Recovery/Life Coach & Dog Dad. Steemit and Hive have allowed me to work on my typing skills, spelling, and grammar while learning about HTML, crypto, blockchain, and meeting new people. Its truly been eye opening and a growing experience...

It's worth writing about.

I joined Steemit 2 months ago in June with no understanding of what it was. I was pushed to do so by @movement19 after he tried talking me into joining the decentralized web for a few years. As a mater of fact he kinda just set me up my account and was like- here have fun!

My first steemit post

I started playing around with it and learning a little about html. It was fun learning something new and scrolling through the different post. I kept coming across different articles about Justin Sun and a Hive beef. I didn’t really look into it much and quickly decided I that was not my beef because all the drama went down before I joined.

However this did get me interested in Hive!

One month ago I joined Hive not because I had any issues with Steemit, but just because it intrigued me to see what it was all about. Mind you, I am still to this day "wet behind my ears" when it comes to blockchain crypto and all things computers.

When I first signed up for Hive I was expecting it to look different but not much of anything else. You can imagine my surprise when I realized for the most part it looked identical... at first.

I started playing around and quickly found dApps and some other different things that were different. I mean Peakd is bad ass! I mainly use hive.blog but if I have any issues I jump right on Peakd and whatever bug I was dealing with is quickly fixed (like posting my profile picture- thank you @hiveqa).

From an outward appearance, other than the dApps, it pretty much seemed the same as Steemit. But things are not always as they appear.

I quickly typed up an #introducemyself exited to let the community know they had a new user! This was something I didn’t know to do when I first joined Steemit so I ended up posting it on both platforms.

Check out my #introduceyourself

With out even realizing it I started an experiment. Hive vs Steemit

Since I already had a small following on Steemit I expected the post to do better over there. I had already done about 9 posts on Steemit and I thought the community was receiving me well for being new.

Boy was I wrong!

I'm not even necessarily talking about the payouts. The thing that stood out to me the most was all the comments! Hive jumped on me like ants at a picnic running for spilled sweet tea. It was amazing and I was instantly interacting with the Hive community. Some of them could relate to my past with addiction, some of them where just cool people like @aagabriel and @slobberchops.

Over on Steemit things went well, but no were close to as well as on Hive. I did make a cool friend over there @FutureMind, things where going so well on Hive I searched for him there. Sadly he was not too active on Hive. I don’t know why though.

Its also worth mentioning that the Hive post gave me huge insight on the whole Justin Suns beef in a strange way. You see @darthknight gave me a nice upvote and naturally I checked out his page. He never posts, but there was one from a few months back talking about how they stole his money over on Steemit.

Screen-Shot-2020-08-12-at-10-13-39-PM

Up until now I had not seen the Hive side of things much less known who it affected. This shit went down before I came around and I have little knowledge of how these sites work, but I wanted to help out @darthknight in any way I could. So I did what any dumb ass newbie would do... I wrote him a comment showing my support on maybe millions of his being stollen. 🤦‍♂️

Screen-Shot-2020-08-12-at-10-18-09-PM

Yea I did nothing to help and I might even of pissed him off reminding him of the whole thing. (Sorry if i did.)

So the Steemit vs Hive started off with Hive winning the race.

However I wasn’t just going to quit hive over that. I was grateful for the support I received on both platforms and wanted to contribute back to the communities.

I figured the best way to do this was by powering up on both platforms so I could upvote people and it actually give them something.

@johnvibes was so nice to let me just CashApp him for some Steemit and Hive. I did not know or understand how crypto wallets work at the time so this was very nice of him to help me jump in with both feet. He even took the time to walk me through setting up wallets and everything later on. Thank you John!!!

I was all powered up ($600-$750) in each account and was ready to really start exploring and contributing to the communities.

It didn’t take long before I stumbled onto a really cool post from @themarkymark. It was Will You Buy $10 of Hive With Me

In the article, he asked 100 people in the Hive community to help stimulate the economy by buying $10 of Hive.

I loved the article and the idea behind it so I matched it! Even better then the article was @themarkymark whole page and i started following him.

Time Goes On

As time went on over the last month I've been able to learn more and more. Like how curation and author rewards are done, how to lease Hp, made some friends and even started a Curation Podcast on Discord with @movement19 called Post Up which airs tomorrow and every Thursday at 11 and 7 EST.

My friends grew quickly on Hive and slowly on Steemit.
I've met some great people like @mineopoly plus others mentioned in my article along with receiving some killer support from @solominer @themarkymark @slobberchops @therealwolf @vcelier @payroll @darthknight @buildawhale @broncnutz @appreciator.

These guys are Hive rockstars and I want to thank them for their support and strongly urge everyone reading this to go show them some love. ❤️

But I noticed something with @solominer @themarkymark @slobberchops @therealwolf @vcelier @payroll @darthknight @buildawhale...

They all said RIP Steemit... No, like for real, just look!

Screen-Shot-2020-08-12-at-11-59-17-PM

So with this new info I found out I feel like I need to do something. I know I can't do much and I don’t have any place in the beef. So out of respect to the guys who show me support I decided to power down my SP after only 2 months on Steemit and 1 month on Hive.

Screen-Shot-2020-08-09-at-12-19-00-AM

I know it's not really much, but I figured the money is put to better use over here so I can show support to the people who support me, new exiting articles I find and like, and most importantly the new guys that are just starting out on Hive!

I want to see this community grow!

I have also linked my Steemit posts to my Hive profile to bring people on over as well. And when I share a post to my +30k followers on FB and IG I only use Hive links. As of now I will still post on Steemit but this is where I have found a family, thank you for the warm welcome!

Remember, this is all just my opinion. You know... The unbiased opinion of of a newbie that didn't know anything about any of this 2 months and 1 day ago. AKA the opinion of a fresh new user!

If I mentioned you or said something that I shouldn’t have in this article please let me know and I will remove your tag or what I shouldn’t of said.

You seem like a great writer to me. You organize your posts well too. You’ve learned a lot over the years & quickly picking up things here as well over the last few months.

Great to have you around, keep it up dude!

Hell yeah! I’ll always take some compliments! Thanks man! I love it over here!

The key thing on here is to do something different than the rest. That is what I saw when you started posting. The fact that I have done drugs (not been addicted) also drew me in.

Contrary to what some believe, you can be noticed if you adhere to sentence (1). You have also shown a commitment to the community and that goes a long way. We are a small but fiercely loyal lot here.

I'm still waiting for your prison posts!

Well I guess it’s a good thing I’ve been different my whole damn life! LOL #BlackSheep
Our differences are what makes use who we are! I love how open I can be on here, I can’t always do that on my FB or IG. However since I’ve jumped over here I’ve opened up more over there and it’s been fun watching the follower count going off like a broken elevator. I’m losing the followers that want me to be a cookie cuter person and gaining more raw followers.
This who experience has definitely allowed me to grow in my life and has gotten me back to writing.

And just for you I’ve dug up some of my prison note books! I’ll be getting backe to that series shortly! But here is a preview of some of the potential content.

You wrote all this stuff while inside? Looks like plenty to go at.. I wont ask you what its like as I know you will spill the beans sooner or later.., did anyone else write while in there?

This is just what I’ve been able to hold onto. I’m surprised I was able to save this much, I’ve lost the majority of my stuff while homeless. When I started my life over and moved to Florida I only had one book bag with me. In that book bag was auto jigglers, bolt cutters, some clothing, pictures and some of my writing/letters.

Oh we will get into all of it. In my prison series. I’m going to start off slow at first, because thankfully I’m not the same person I was back then... I don’t want to hyper focus and relive that shit in a negative way. Got to keep my character defects in check. I want to focus on it slowly and shed light on everything for others and hopefully grow personally from it.

It was great reading this story! A newbie perspective on things.
Thanks for sharing.

It was quite a ride when the fork happened. Almost Hollywood style :)
It had a ton of events one after another the next crazier then the one before.

Also @lukestokes can express things in a great way, you can scroll trough his post back to February... March, and find some nice posts.

Here is one of the many

Oh hell yea man! thank you so much! im going to check this shit out.

You totally have every right to say whatever you want here. I think that's the major difference between the two networks. Steem has one idiot at the wheel and Hive has 30 Robin Hoods. They may be dangerous but they play a good game.

Thanks for mentioning me. I don't carry a big load of crypto but I can see a winner from a far and you are a winner. DIY is so much better than DUI.

Peace

Yeah man of course I mentioned you! Your cool as a fan 🌬
I don’t care about how much crypto you have either brother! What I do care about is you coming on the podcast and bringing your best post tomorrow. If not tomorrow next week!
And I want to see you publish your book! So get to writing so we can format that gem!

Do you mean movement19's podcast?

Yes Sir!!!

Thanks for the mention and pretty chuffed that I was remembered as part of your experience with getting acquainted here.

Yea man you where one of the first!
