Training to conquer the Dragon

in #health9 years ago

Taking on the Drakensberg in South Africa is not an easy task, I have been on many hikes in the Drakensberg and no amount of training has ever made it easy.

As it has been raining a lot here lately I will have to plan to do most of my training in doors. When its not raining I will go to an area where you walk down a mountain and back up. Best way to train for hiking is to hike. Sadly this in not possible, but I have a few options to try.

Stairs and lots of them, but I will be putting weights in a bag which i will have on may back while walking up and down these stairs. This I will do for 15 min 3 times a day. Each week I will increase the time.

There is a lovely road nearby where I can walk and jog up and down. So on days that it in not raining I will spend at least an hour walking/jogging up that hill and down it.

Anymore tips you have for me please put them in the comments below.

You made me giddy on the mountain top. Exhausted on the stairs, and my rear is yet to recover from the slide down the hill.

At your age it should be a breeze. Best advice is as you said... walk, walk, walk...every opportunity you get. Enjoy that beautiful part of our beautiful country and enjoy the hike {thumbs up}

I must say that it does help a lot to be young looking at how my dad and uncle struggle.
