You yourself just leveled uncertainty. My son who recently got his first job that offered good benefit package kept going to the med center when he was sick. I said why don't you go to the hospital where they have the ability to do more testing and he said because my insurance says I have to pay the deductible before they will pay the hospital bill and I don't have hundreds of dollars to pay the deductible versus the fifty dollar co pay for the med center. I told him all that means is if your bill ends up being like five hundred dollars the insurance company will deduct the deductible amount from what they will pay and send a check for the rest then the hospital will bill you for the balance owing which you can then set up payment arrangements for. So for people like him you are not helping the situation as they will continue to think they need to go to the hospital with hundreds of dollars. Yes health expenses can be expensive but in our country no one is turned away for inability to pay, the hospital must ensure that everyone who goes there is stabilized before release, while there the hospital sends in a representative for various health care initiatives including applying under what was known as the Hill Burton Act which is now the Public Health Care Act where federal grants to hospitals provide free health care to those who can't afford it in exchange for the grants to expand their hospitals growth. That act along with other state programs in place can significantly reduce the health care cost of those who do not have it up to and including the service may be provided free of charge. I know when I was younger and didn't have health care I often asked to apply under the Hill Burton act and I wasn't charged at all for the visit. This would be helpful information to pass along instead of picking fault during a potential crisis.
