I believe we all know about the prestigious AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS TOURNAMENT(AFCON) that was concluded yesterday in a beautiful banter between SENEGAL and EGYPT in which Senegal came out victorious through a decisive shootout between the two sides.
Here are a couple of things you should know about the reigning champions of AFRICA
SENEGAL COACH AND STAR PLAYER'S
SENEGAL has a total number of 28 players, they're ranked 20th in FIFA rankings this country is filled with lots of talented players like EDUARDO MENDY who currently plays for Chelsea, KALIDOU KOULIBALY(NAPOLI),IDRISSA GUEYE (PSG) and lastly their star player SADIO MANE he's worth €80,000M and plays for LIVERPOOL.
They were coached by **ALIOU CISSE)before his appointment in 2015 Senegal hasn't played in the world cup or Afcon tournament since 2002, so far he has led the team to 17 Afcon games and lost only two matches to Cameroon and Algeria,and those two teams eventually won the tournament that year.
A brief history of SADIO MANE: he was born on the 10th of April 1992,he started his professional career in Ligue 2 at club Metz(2011-2012),the he was bought by Red bull salsburg(2012-2014),Southampton(2014-2016),then finally Liverpool where he is still playing till date.
He has played for his country 87 times and scored a total of 29 goals
SENEGAL'S JOURNEY IN AFCON 2021/2022.
Their group stage performance wasn't really impressive as they won just a game(Zimbabwe) and had a tie with the rest(guinea and Malawi respectively),then they faced CAPE VERDE in the round 16,which they won(2:0),then proceeded to the quarter finals where EQUATORIAL GUINEA was waiting to send them back,and yet again they won by 3 to 1 goals,they defeated BURKINA FASO in the semi finals with the same goal lines(3:1) which eventually brought them to the finals where they brought the mighty Egyptians to their knees after a well played football between the two,they were separated by penalty shootouts (4:2).
Which brought Senegal to their first ever AFCON title!!!!
I'm sure Egypt would want to seek revenge as they have a world cup qualification match coming up,let's wait and see.
