Las hermanas pierden a sus padres biológicos a temprana edad y son acogidas por un hombre de nombre Vander, quien las cuida como suyas. Van creciendo como unas ladronas de poca monta para ganar algún dinero y lo primero que capta mi atención es la unión entre ellas, la mayor hace todo para que la más pequeña se sienta querida y protegida, y esta última siente ese amor y solo desea “pertenecer” y ser merecedora de ese amor.
Esta relación es la principal trama de la serie dándole un enfoque muy interesante y entre muchos el que me ha atraído más, la evolución de Powder a Jinx.
Powder sufre el dolor de la muerte de sus padres biológicos y debe crecer en esta dura sociedad donde su hermana mayor Vi, trata de proteger la poca infancia que aún le pueda quedar por vivir. En el intermedio encontramos a Vander que a pesar de no ser el padre biológico de las chicas logro ganarse el respeto, cariño y admiración de las mismas, quien también trata de proteger a ambas, pero sobre todo a Powder ya que es la más pequeña y a su vez la más débil.
Vi es audaz, ágil, arriesgada y guerrera, sabe pelear y posee un liderazgo innato que la hace el modelo a seguir de un grupo de otros jóvenes contemporáneos o más pequeños y por supuesto es el norte de Powder, quien no busca ser como ella, solo quiere demostrar que es útil y puede ser parte de este grupo dirigido de alguna forma por Vi.
Eso nos lleva al primer acto que desploma estas ilusiones en Powder, en lo que sería un gran asalto, sin quererlo causa una importante explosión y finalmente pierde el botín obtenido por la banda de Vi. Cuando esto ocurre la serie nos deja ver qué cosas así no están ocurriendo por primera vez y esto se debe a que Powder es débil y lejos de ser una ayuda se convierte más bien en un obstáculo. Vi la defiende, la protege y le hace saber que es especial, pero se nota que ya la autoestima de Jinx está rota, por el dolor de la pérdida de sus padres y porque seguramente ya ha notado que sus esfuerzos no son suficiente para estar a la altura de las situaciones.
Seguidamente, luego del secuestro de Vander, trata de ayudar nuevamente, aún después de ser advertida por su hermana para que no interviniera, aquí lo importante que debes saber es que la intervención de Powder es la razón principal de una inmensa explosión que causa la muerte de sus más cercanos amigos y de forma indirecta la de Vander.
En un encuentro atropellado entre las hermanas, Powder trata de impresionarla y le dice que ella causó la explosión para ayudar, pero la mayor vio todo en primera fila, a sus amigos muertos, a su padre y esta vez no pudo racionalizar todo ese dolor y culpa directamente a Powder de todo el desastre.
Powder sabe, ella también vio todo, pero a esta altura es obvio que ya su personalidad está quebrada, luego de una discusión y suplicas, Vi la deja. Sin embargo, ésta última al ver en peligro a su hermana se arrepiente y trata de regresar, siendo detenida por un policía.
Powder es acogida por el malo de la partida, el que prácticamente fue el origen de todo el desastre y esa noche catastrófica deja de ser Powder y se convierte en Jinx.
Jinx es un personaje caótico, criminal y desequilibrado, encerrado en sus alucinaciones del pasado aquel, en que su error causo la muerte de sus amigos y Vander. Delinque sin remordimiento, pero mantiene su complejo de la infancia, el de tratar de pertenecer, de sentirse merecedora del cariño, en este caso de Silco, el hombre que la acogió luego de la muerte de Vander y la desaparición de su hermana.
Se pasea entre el borde de su cordura y la caída libre de su locura, las heridas están en ella, porque para mayor calamidad ella sabe que causo tal catástrofe, aunque luego su personalidad desequilibrada tome control y diga que no fue ella.
Finalmente, el destino vuelve a reencontrar a las hermanas, pero todo ha cambiado, aunque por un momento podemos ver a aquella Powder frágil descansar brevemente en Vi, no tarda mucho en perder el control. Es ésta paranoia la que la lleva, sin quererlo a matar a Silco, cosa que también lamenta profundamente, siendo nuevamente su forma desenfocada de proceder la que causa la pérdida de otro ser importante en su vida.
En el último capítulo de la serie, esto le supera, entregándose a ese lado oscuro al que cree que pertenece, asumiéndose como Jinx, dejando ir a Powder y finalmente a Vi.
Yo me quede enganchada con ese personaje sabiendo que, no es mala genuinamente, razones de más tuvo para perder la cordura, para que su seguridad y autoestima se rompieran en mil pedazos, encontrando en la locura su único lugar seguro. Sabiendo que, luego del evento donde pierde a Vander, a sus amigos y a su hermana, su mente no volvió a tener paz y sus fantasmas la atormentan.
Y me pregunto ¿será capaz Jinx de perdonarse a sí misma, en primer lugar? ¿Sera capaz Vi de rescatarla? Ya vimos en la primera temporada de la serie que no pudo. En el punto actual donde quedo Jinx se proyecta como la archienemiga de todos, pero sobre todo de Vi. Entonces ¿Habrá aún algún chance para estas hermanas? Y si lo encuentran cómo seguirán adelante luego de las acciones criminales de Jinx, de las cuales veremos sus consecuencias en la segunda temporada.
Luego de ver alguna de las acciones de Jinx pensé, está loca de remate y posteriormente analicé todo lo que la había llevado hasta ahí, interesándome finalmente en ver como Arcane dará redención a este personaje, una que probablemente merece, pero habrá que ver cómo se dará.
Arcane is by far one of the best animated series today, set in the famous game League of Legends, it tells the story of two sisters Violet (Vi) and Powder (Jinx), who struggle to survive in the waste of a city called Zuan, where the worst things of society coexist, poverty, garbage, crime, inequality, drugs, pollution and other scourge, being a society with no place for weak people. Quite contrary to the neighboring Piltover, where there is development, progress, justice, comfort and abundance, all this denied to the inhabitants of Zuan.
The sisters lose their biological parents at an early age and are taken in by a man named Vander, who takes care of them as his own. They grow up as petty thieves to earn some money and the first thing that catches my attention is the bond between them, the older one does everything to make the younger one feel loved and protected, and the latter feels that love and just wants to "belong" and be worthy of that love.
This relationship is the main plot of the series giving it a very interesting approach and among many the one that has attracted me the most, the evolution of Powder to Jinx.
Powder suffers the pain of the death of his biological parents and must grow up in this harsh society where his older sister Vi, tries to protect the little childhood that may still be left for him to live. In between we find Vander, who despite not being the biological father of the girls managed to gain the respect, affection and admiration of them, who also tries to protect both, but especially Powder since she is the smallest and at the same time the weakest.
Vi is bold, agile, risky and warrior, knows how to fight and has an innate leadership that makes her the role model of a group of other young contemporaries or smaller than her and of course is the north of Powder, who does not seek to be like her, just wants to prove that she is useful and can be part of this group led in some way by Vi.
That brings us to the first act that collapses these illusions in Powder, in what would be a great assault, unintentionally causes a major explosion and finally loses the loot obtained by Vi's gang. When this happens the series lets us see that things like this are not happening for the first time and this is because Powder is weak and far from being a help she becomes more of an obstacle. Vi defends her, protects her and lets her know that she is special, but at this point Jinx's self-esteem is already broken, because of the pain of the loss of her parents and because she has surely noticed that her efforts are not enough to live up to the situations.
Then, after Vander's kidnapping, she tries to help again, even after being warned by her sister not to intervene and here the important thing to know is that Powder's intervention is the main cause of the big explosion that causes the death of her closest friends and indirectly that of Vander.
In a rushed meeting between the sisters, Powder tries to impress her and tells her that she caused the explosion to help, but the older one saw everything in the front row, her dead friends, her father and this time she could not rationalize all that pain and blames Powder directly for the whole disaster.
Powder knows, she also saw everything, but at this point it is obvious that her personality is already broken, after an argument and pleading, Vi leaves her. However, the latter, seeing her sister in danger, regrets and tries to return, being stopped by a cop.
Powder is taken in by the bad guy of the game, the one who was practically the origin of the whole disaster and that catastrophic night she stops being Powder and becomes Jinx.
Jinx is a chaotic, criminal and unbalanced character, locked in his hallucinations of the past when his mistake caused the death of his friends and Vander. She commits crimes without remorse, but maintains her childhood complex, that of trying to belong, to feel worthy of affection, in this case from Silco, the man who took her in after the death of Vander and the disappearance of her sister.
She walks between the edge of her sanity and the free fall of her madness, the wounds are in her, because for greater calamity she knows that she caused such a catastrophe, although later her unbalanced personality takes control and says that it was not her.
Finally, destiny brings the sisters together again, but everything has changed, although for a moment we can see that fragile Powder resting briefly in Vi, it doesn't take long for her to lose control. It is this paranoia that leads her to unwittingly kill Silco, which she also deeply regrets, and it is again her unfocused way of proceeding that causes the loss of another important person in her life.
In the last chapter of the series, this overcomes her, giving herself over to the dark side she thinks she belongs to, assuming herself as Jinx, letting go of Powder and finally Vi.
I was hooked on that character knowing that, she's not genuinely evil, she had all the more reason to lose her sanity, to have her security and self-esteem shattered into a thousand pieces, finding in madness her only safe place. Knowing that, after the event where she loses Vander, her friends and her sister, her mind has no peace again and her ghosts torment her.
And I wonder, will Jinx be able to forgive herself in the first place? Will Vi be able to rescue her? We already saw in the first season of the series that she could not. At the current point of the series Jinx is projected as the archenemy of everyone, but especially of Vi. So will there still be a chance for these sisters? And if they do, how will they move forward after Jinx's criminal actions, which we will see their consequences in the second season.
After seeing some of Jinx's actions I thought to myself, she's out of her mind and then I analyzed everything that had brought her there, finally getting interested in seeing how Arcane will give redemption to this character, one that probably deserves but we have to see, how it's going to happen.
