in Hive Open Mic2 months ago

I wanted to start this post by saying a big thank you to the #hiveopenmic community. To this weekly event and the beautiful people that come together from around the world to celebrate the amazing power of collective music. I am truly honored and grateful for this.

I'd also like to show my deepest gratitude to @mipiano, @juliopalomo and @cabelindsay for bringing this wonderful community together and for their continued love and support each week with their beautiful curation efforts.

This week's theme is "Statement" and I wanted to share

a little song I have been working on since around February. This one I wrote when I was feeling angry and frustrated with the lockdown restrictions and how the UK government dealt with them. It was a confusing time. We could go out, then we couldn't, kids were going back to school, and then on the first day back they decreed that we were all confined to our houses again.

Now, I want to point out that I am not a staunch supporter of the many conspiracy theories and I do understand that many lives have been affected by the illness. However, I can't help feeling that governments and mainstream media around the world have used this as an excuse to drive fear and control over their citizens.

One of the other points I make in this song is about protests and how the media will garner its attention to what I like to call 'approved activism topics'. By this I mean that certain protests will make mainstream media, the cause will be addressed and life moves forward. But then some protests are given complete media blackout, you know the ones that show those in control for their true colors. The media cleverly crafts this and the injustices continue.

I don't want to get into too much political debate about it, and it is not my intention to offend anyone, but this song was my statement about how things felt a few months ago.

I hope that the day will come in mine or my children's lifetime where love and kindness guide the path for humanity and life will be more peaceful for all.

Frustration

Wandering lonely, don't know where to go.
Sometimes it feels as if I'm gonna lose my soul.
Searching outside, reaching from within.
Conflict, injustices, my patience wearing thin oh yeah...

Feel enlightened, cosmic array.
Freedom fighters will fight on another day,
But the only fight they let us win will take our rights.
It's time to stand up find a peaceful way to fight.
OH oh yeah....

Spoken word:

Maybe I've been locked down too long, but it seems to me things are terribly wrong. I know we need to protect the vulnerable, but at what cost to the thinkers and young minds craving a slice of the pie that human contact used to provide?

What kind of world are we living in where our difference of opinion drives a wedge of discontent? Further burrowing itself and eating us up from the inside out.

And yes I can walk with my head held high. Try to be all peace love and light. But it's hard to remain impervious to the suffering of the many people whose rights are written off by those who dictate how free we are allowed to be.

There's only so much incense I can burn in one day and balancing of a life gone astray. My kids are slowly getting eaten up by the solitary loneliness Each day I see their sadness grow and then I realize that we are not alone.

I turn on the news, social media and it's a frenzy of conflicting opinions and ideas.

JUST STOP...
SHUT IT DOWN
We have the power to turn this around.

Is this really the best we could create with the gift of consciousness?

Verse:

Feel enlightened, cosmic array.
Freedom fighters will fight on another day,
But the only fight they let us win will take our rights.
It's time to stand up find a peaceful way to fight.
OH oh yeah...Bring Back the LOVE.

Thank you for listening,

~ONE LOVE~

Your sound is good and lovely music I love this song.

Aww thank you for listening and for the lovely comment. Much love to you 💚🤗

Legendary!! Love this one, especially as we are in the middle of our 4th consecutive full-weekend-lockdown imposed by the government. Seems this is unending, and it will be a trauma to our children much like the Cold War was to me when I was a boy. I can still remember the public school drills getting under the desks and crouching, as if somehow this would help us in a nuclear blast from the Russians.

Aww awesome! I'm always touched when you like my songs.
So they lock everyone down at the weekend and then the virus suddenly disappears during the week? Don't ya just love governmental logic!I really do feel for you and your family. You guys are a great family unit and I have faith that the strength you and @sreypov hold is what will keep your daughters grounded during this tough time.

I can still remember the public school drills getting under the desks and crouching

It's exactly this kind of mentality of using scare tactics to gain compliance which I feel causes more trauma.

Thank you for you lovely comment and for stooping by to listen.

Big love to you and your amazing family @justinparke

Hey dear, hermana mia @holisticmom

I like the song, the message and feel your frustration and your strong statement! And an especially interesting part was the spoken part, hm, nice innovation in the performance.

I hope that the day will come in mine or my children's lifetime where love and kindness guide the path for humanity and life will be more peaceful for all.

Yes, we all hope that. Also we should all start from ourselves and always share the love and kindness but as well the critical thinking, and show it with example. Our attitude is crucial, and it has to guide us. Your song and entry for this week is a great example of your fight, frustration and hope, all at the same time.

Sending you some hugs and all the kindness 🤗🤗

Ah querida hermana, muchas gracias.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes I feel that sometimes spoken word holds more power to transmit the message.

Also we should all start from ourselves and always share the love and kindness but as well the critical thinking, and show it with example.

Very well said. Change starts with us 100%.

Much love, hugs and kisses to you beautiful 💚🤗🙏

The truth is that the lyrics of your song show the frustration and the energy you put into it is formidable.

Thank you for your lovely comment @pablodare 💚🤗

Right on, sis. I think music is the single greatest form of peaceful protest in my awareness. I admire the section of your spoken word poetry, embedded in the center of your song. Potent and powerful. Your song here has Woodstock ‘69 written all over it, and in fact I think you’re doing a good job of carrying forward that same torch lit by Richie Havens and all those other warriors:

It’s time to stand up find a peaceful way to fight.

@cabelindsay YES! Music holds a special power that has the potential to change the world.

I'm am very flattered by your compliment. This was my first attempt at including spoken word in a song.

The Woodstock movement was such a powerful time and although I was born a decade after, I felt a huge spiritual connection to the vibes and ethos. That is the eternal power of music.

I am so grateful to all musicians who continue to carry the spirit of the peace movement into the present and am deeply touched that you think my music holds the same vibe.

Absolutely love that video too! ✌

Big hugs to you dear brother 🤗💚

a great song you have written thank you for sharing.

Thanks Jim but I think your pants song is way better. 🤗 lovely to see you today, good to see the Fish Hat Band jamming. You guys rock! 💚🤗

Oh my, that was such a pleasure!
I wasn't really catching the vibe at first, I think it took you some time to settle into it. Once it got to that spoken word/rap kind of part you were perfectly settled and it became a really great song. After the spoken word the singing was top tier too.
You're a really good singer @holisticmom. You've got it locked 👍
You clearly can also do rap, have you done it in the past? In any song I can listen to?

Oh hey @nevies! Thank you for listening. Yes I think you are right. I was so worried about getting into the spoken word which probably detracted from the energy in the first bit.

Thank you for the compliment. This is the first time I have attempted it. I once had a drunken rap battle with some friends but that was many years ago haha.

Perhaps I will write another one soon.

Thanks again and I appreciate your kind words and feedback.

Much love 💚🤗
