I always enjoy seeing the art on canvas, some are very talented, many use similar vibrant color.
Woodwork one soon identifies regions, some here originate in Zimbabwe where traders have 3 month permits to come down and trade.
Zulu woman are known for excellent beadwork and beading more often than not right on sight.
Pottery is starting to show once again in traditional styles which is another interesting concept, a coffee cup with giraffe neck and head popping over the side as a handle, or trunk of the elephant.

I love to stroll through such markets when we are on vacation, to see the handicraft by the locals. They often spend so much time in the things they sell often much too cheap in my eyes.

Lot of work setting up each day, then many do sell well under what they would be able to achieve. Small earnings keeps them going hopefully.
I believe you, they can't leave the things there over night. Here many market sellers have little cabins on the markets which they can lock up in the evenings. When many sellers are offering similar things, I can imagine that they go down with the prices to sell.

Really don't mind similar workmanship, do object to mass manufacture being sold in what should be art and craft stores. Municipalities did try assisting with lockup areas for goods, earlier years may have worked now storage areas would be targets at night.

Tourists like I would be one would need assistance to regognize handcrafted goods between mass manufactured ones, I believe. I know that from other holidays where we have seen at home that we have bought much too expensive.
The world has become a dangerous place, so even many people in the small countryside village, where my parents live, lock their doors now when they leave their house to go shopping or visit their neighbors.

More established markets like this, one does have to throw caution to mass manufactured goods. Many small stores along the road you will see the craftsman sitting working.
Personally never been anywhere ever..., without locked doors at night over here. We lock them day and night now, living in our own personal prisons.
