Moving - A Semblance of Normality Amidst Organized Chaos

I had my fair share of boxed furniture, loads of bubble wrap, and boxes filled with necessary and sentimental goods. Things were moving slowly because my move was done in stages. Three large boxes have to be unpacked still, and most cupboards already are full! I had minimized when still in my old home, but I'm going to be harsh on myself and whittle it down some more, like my large collection of books that was reduced to a small collection. Still too much! I have my precious friends who lost everything in the 2022 floods; their book collection was part of it, and they'd be more than happy with those books; some paintings also will have to go!

The kitchen looked like a war zone; many of my belongings were in storage, so some boxes contained a mix of stuff. In retrospect, my big mistake of managing to cancel the purchase of my lounge suite because it was too big became a blessing in disguise, as it gave us space to move around. I'm still waiting for the changed order, and getting a bit impatient as I'm sitting on patio and beach chairs! I've hardly spent time in front of the TV, though.
My older brother moved in with me; he's recuperating from an operation and a fall, so things have been crazy here. It's like everything happens at once, right?

I've taken a couple of breaks in the village clubhouse while waiting for my brother to have physio and have seen some of the facilities; I am impressed!
But, I for sure am going to gain a few more rolls around my belly if I keep on ordering sinful stuff like featherlight freshly baked scones with jam and cream and a gorgeous cappuccino to go with it!

A semblance of normality when my desk was set up, but I've hardly had time to pop in. I hope to get back to normality soon so I can still my Hive withdrawal symptoms!

All that chaos really does wear on you Lizelle! I'm glad you're getting little breaks here and there to treat yourself. I know what you mean about Hive withdrawals! I don't know what I'd do if this place ever disbands. Whenever anything of interest happens one of my first thoughts is, I can't wait to post about this.. : )

I don't know what I'd do if this place ever disbands

That's exactly why Hive is not going to go away. The dedicated core of bloggers who are here for the experience are going to hang on. I know I am...

 yesterday

I really hope that's the case. I'm fully committed too, considering what I make these days I'm definitely not doing it for the money. : ) Next July it'll be a full decade for me!

Hi Eric, it's been quite something realizing I still have too much, after decluttering big time before my move! It's great when more and more things find their place, and the pile of stuff to give away is taken away. I still have a few boxes of photos and memories to go through - ours, my Mom's, and my late uncle who left the best family photos and those of his fascinating career.
I absolutely agree with you about Hive; I'd be devastated if it ever comes to an end!

Congratulations on arriving into your new home, everything normally does happen all at once, little surprises that keep us on our toes, not so.

It should be easier now in the home to sort once again making final decision as to what stays or goes.

Have yourself a wonderful weekend, really hope your older brother is on the mend, good to have company not leaving yourself to ponder over the tasks that keep appearing.

I'm really enjoying building a new nest and being able to pass on stuff to friends who lost everything in the floods. I left boxes of books behind, but still ended up with a load of books, so I will be sifting through that! It's so nice having my younger brother kind of across the road and being able to store those boxes till I have time to go through them.
Thank you, my older brother is definitely improving!
I hope you're keeping well Joan <3

I yet have to start sorting indoors, still busy getting life organized at Municipality and with wall problems, feels like it going on forever. Started repairs and maintenance May 2024 which has turned into a never ending story.

Good to hear your older brother is improving with your TLC and younger brother close to hand to assist where possible. Have a great day!

Letting go of your stuffs is not easy because of the sentimental values but sometime you have to just to make the house arranged.

Hi @ronimarie82, it wasn't easy, but good in the end as it helped someone else and me as well as the house is not so crowded.

Moving is such a bothersome but feels good at the same time. When you declutter and organize stuff in the new place, it feels like starting over but in a good way. Have fun unpacking :D

 yesterday

Believe it or not but it's my first move in 50 years🤭 Decluttering was necessary and kind of freeing, a real new start after losing my hubby.
It's fun unpacking and finding a new 'home' for everything.

What a hassle. I'm glad you've managed to somehow squeeze in these little moments of normality amid all this havoc, my friend. :)

It's been quite a shock moving house after 50 years🫣 but good in the end, the best decision for a long while, my friend!

Congratulations you have been manual curated and upvoted by @ecency

it takes time to adept my last move took us 6 months to get every thing where it belongs after unpacking .

Thank you for the support @stresskiller & @ecency!
I think it's probable going to take that long to get everything into their final home. I keep on reorganizing every so often.

Time will sort it all out milady, and we are glad about it being a nice place. Hope that your brother is also recuperating well.

You are inspiring in the way you adapt to a changing life. We can't wish those changes away, so we have to adjust. I'm trying...

 yesterday

Thank you, @agmoore, that's simply going into survival mode, and eventually it becomes the new normal!
We all battle with so many life changes, not easy!
After losing my brother, someone told my Mom, "You have to get on with the job of living!" I always remember that!

You have to get on with the job of living

🌷

hehe what a lot of stuff!

We are going through things and I am thinking why do we have this. I am ruthless now. Mrs T says as long as I have a phone my tablet a laptop and a couple of tshirts I could get rid of everything else lol. She is not far wrong!
What way do you do your scones! Jam bottom or top that is the question...
