Betrayed, used, and abused is how I felt last week.
Why did I ignore the inner voice that kept on telling me to beware?
You see, I like to find the good in everyone, and these people portrayed what I wanted to see.
I bent over backwards to help, shared valuable knowledge learnt over the past ten years, and they did a 360-degree turnaround once that was done.
It involves Poe, my beautiful tuxedo cat with an endearing character, highly intelligent as well! When my son emigrated three years ago, my late hubby and I became grandparents of a feline male, not one of the human kind.
Fast forward two years; our home, with a running concern, became too big to handle on my own, so I decided to sell and downscale, but it had to be in a secure estate, preferably with good facilities and high security. There was a catch, though, as always. Those estates do not allow cats because they roam and could disturb the neighbours; most also have electric fencing. Living in a standalone house in SA is out of the question, especially for a silver-haired woman alone.
I found a smaller home in a high-security estate that only allows a dog, so I had to find a new home for Poe. The new owners of my home 'kindly' advised that he could stay on in the house as long as my staff live on the property.
That was until last week.
My goodwill was no longer needed, and I was sent a curt WhatsApp message asking when I would be fetching my cat. I was dumbfounded!
My sister-in-law is involved with a couple of animal rescue organizations, and managed to find temporary accommodation in a cattery at a reduced rate. We fetched Poe the next day to take him to his temporary lodgings. The owner also runs a cat rescue.
It was heartbreaking to see him distressed on the trip, especially when taking him to his 'hotel' room.

I, however, get daily updates from the lovely young lady with a big heart and a passion for cats, and he's slowly getting used to his new environment. I will visit once he's settled in, as they are only a ten-minute drive from here.
With more and more security estates popping up, there sadly will be more and more domestic cats finding themselves out in the cold!
In the meantime, the search for suitable parents continues.
Will I give away any more trade secrets? No, no, no!
Free advice usually comes at a cost to the taker, not the giver.
I once was told it's okay to make a mistake, but when you make the same mistake twice, you are a fool!
I was a fool for not listening to that inner voice, and for sure will not make the same mistake twice!

I'm so sorry that someone betrayed your kindness, Lizelle! It's tough when this happens. Someone who takes advantage of a person's kindness is the worst kind of person, IMHO, because it might dissuade them from trusting others again. It's good to listen to our gut feelings though—I, for one, am guilty of not always doing that. I hope Poe finds a comfortable and loving forever home.
Poe is my biggest concern, you are right, he needs a good forever home. Has already moved twice in his lifetime.
I trusted the wrong people and it was awful, but I will not let it make me distrust everyone. I'm going to be meeting a lot of new people, and look forward to that.
I hope you're keeping well Eric!
Sorry to hear this as earlier I was thinking about how Bongani, Cynthia and Poe were coping with you not being on the property. Always someone who will take a swing when you least expect it, really hope Poe finds and loving forever home.

The staff aren't happy at all and are already looking at other options. It is so disheartening, but the new owners are shooting themselves in the foot; they cannot succeed without the staff who know the ropes! The man even told C that he 'hates' "the cat". People who lack compassion cannot succeed in a business where taking care of the needs of people is paramount to success!
Staff who know the ropes always a blessing, difficult people arriving with attitude won't last as word of mouth goes around quickly. Unfortunately nothing is able do be done at this point in time, except wish they all find somewhere to earn and be happy and Poe finds a home.

Oh Lizelle, that is so disheartening and pour Poe must be so confused with all that has happened. Thank goodness you found a wonderful woman to take care of him. I will never understand people not allowing cats over barking dogs. Just makes no sense to me. My heart aches with you. ♥
It's going become a big problem with more and more complexes developing. The new owners of my house have turned really nasty to my staff as well. Fortunately we found a lovely home on a farm for Poe. The cat rescue organization screened them and are confident he will be a nice fit and will thrive in that environment. I'm going to say goodbye to him in the morning and meet the young couple who will fetch him at the same time. I'm so thankful🥰
Oh gosh my heart is breaking for you. It does sound like he is being cared for in his temporary circumstances at the cattery but I am sure you just want him home. I don't know what it is that people have such an issue with cats. Dogs are far more destructive, dangerous and annoying. I don't trust people who don't like cats. That's a concrete rule for me.
It is extremely difficult finding a complex that allows a cat, there was nothing suitable when I was looking, I had to downscale! Cats are such clean animals, and they would solve the problem of rats that some of these cluster developments have. People can be so cruel! It's just so frustrating that I can no longer have Poe, makes me very sad.
Hoping we find him a good home💔
honestly, I actually just don't tell the landlord. I suppose its more difficult in secure estates :( I wish him so much love and happiness. I know he'll find the right home. I would have taken him if you were closer to me. Shhhh don't tell @zakludick but I totally would have!
Hi Claire. I'm so happy, we found a lovely home for Poe on a farm outside Ballito on the North Coast. A really nice young couple, they've been screened by the cat rescue organization. I'm going to say goodbye to him tomorrow, and will meet them when they pick him up. It's like a miracle, the lady from the rescue said they've never housed a cat so quickly. He such a charmer🥰
I believe wth all m heart that cats are free and magical spirits. They come into our lives when we need them and move on when they can feel a pull elsewhere. Sort of like Mary Poppins, but smaller, furrier and more full of sh1t 😜
I remember every cat I have ever had though and it's so hard to let them go, no matter the circumstance.
I am so glad your story has a silver lining <3
I'm sorry this has happened and you are barely out the door, so obviously those people lied to get whatever they wanted. I know it is not enough in the moment, but I like to think people who are deliberately deceptive and devious will get their just dose of karma at some point.
Before you said it, I was wondering if they were treating the employees good or just as bad as they have treated Poe, then you said they were not happy either. So sad that they were led to believe they would still have a good place to be too.
Maybe the hubs will drop in and haunt them a bit. LOL ....now that is a fun thought.
It for sure will happen!
Haha a little haunting from the hubs is just what they need.
I was once used and abused and also betrayed, the reason that makes me more now aware and vigilant. People think I do not know what they are into but I know. I just give them chance to make up their mistakes. I closed doors too and cut ties for my peace of mind. I better be alone than be with those nonsense.
I believe people like that eventually cause their own downfall! Sadly it does make one wary of people
Aww....poor Poe, he's so adorable, I'm sure he'll find a loving home soon.
I believe in that inner voice, never push it aside.
Love you my friend, hope to see you soon.
Thanks for sharing.
My darling Poe is starting to adapt in his new environment, much better off there than back at my old house when Bonginkosi is not there!
Look forward to seeing you ❤️
there are some deceiving evil scumbags in this world, don't blame yourself
It's a hard lesson that I am only learning now. Those types eventually stew in their own juices!
hope so to both!
No, you acted by your principles, that's right! It's on them.
So sorry you had that experience though, it's so mean-spirited. What a horrible pain they must have in their tummy to behave like that.
Hope you soon find a new home for the cat, he looks gorgeous 😍 What's the matter with them? May they have a plague of rats upon them, then they'll see the error of their ways 😂
Yes Poe is a gorgeous cat indeed, such a character! I'm praying that we find him a good home soon, so he can settle.
Haha I was thinking if they call me for anything that I should tell them they need to be careful of snakes now that Poe isn't there any longer, and a plague of rats is exactly what they deserve 😉
🤣 👍 💃
I am sorry to hear you were betrayed in this way by the new owners... I hope poor Mr. Poe will be calm and happy during his waiting time in the "hotel" and that a family who will take and love him will appear soon!! 🙏
It wasn't nice @mipiano, but I will not let it change the way I see the world! Poe is starting to settle down nicely but things will never be the same again!
I hope you're keeping well @mipiano
Actually we act the way we are, others act the way they are. Kindness do not always begets kindness. However, we cannot stop giving what we have.
It's good to know that Poe, at least, found a shelter.
Absolutely agree, and I will always stay true to myself.
I do hope we find a good permanent home for Poe, at least he's safe where he is now!
Thank you @amberkashif!

Ah @lizelle, I feel for you on the betrayal and also not having listened to that inner voice. I have, just this month, found myself in a similar situation - not having listened to that inner voice - and come short. Not as short as in the past because I did put some (for want of better words) boundaries in place.
I was going to say that if you were closer, I'd take Poe. But realistically, I couldn't: my 2 males don't like each other, as it is, so a third... 🙀
Hang in there!
Thank you, Fiona, Dean even thought we should consider moving him to a home in another region if someone wanted him, but I fully understand; gosh, two male cats that do not like each other! Poe was getting bullied by another cat that used to roam in our garden. They got into a fight, and Poe obviously was hurt, but we could not see anything. He became listless and wasn't eating or drinking, but pulled through with some TLC from Bonginkosi and me. He started spending less time outdoors after that.
I really miss him, he was so happy staying with us😢
Sorry, I missed your recent posts. I'm happy to hear that you found a new place, but it's a bummer about the new owners, what a pity. It must hurt so much, but sadly there's nothing you can do, just look and enjoy your new life!
I can cut myself off from the house, all the memories are in our hearts, but I'm sad for Poe and my staff. Poe however is already starting to adapt in his temporary home. My staff also have other options if they want to leave, they're still young.
It's a whole new life here, the air is cleaner, a much nicer environment. I'm being kept very busy, so much that needs to be cancelled and changed before my final move! I realize now this move was very necessary.
If I was near I would be happy to take him. I hope he goes to a safe and happy home soon.♥️😑
Awe that's so sweet @asiaymalay. I'm also praying for that🥰

Hello, @lizelle
I, too, tend to see the best in others, and I've been disappointed more than once. However, I stand by my attitude. In the end, you do the right thing. The problem is the fake ones, and you have to be careful not to make the same mistake with them.
Regarding your grandson Poe, I trust you'll find surrogate parents who love him as much as you do.
Greetings.
Hope poe gets adjusted to the new environment so that you feel better relaxed my friend. Everywhere people try to take the advantage of one's simplicity. Hope everything goes fine for you. Take care.
Thank you @shamis🤗
