Happy Hive Birthday To Me

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago (edited)

Apparently, and my gratitude goes out to @dandays for alerting me to this, today is a big Hive birthday for me.

Three years ago today, I received the email that started my life in the virtual world of blockchains and blogging.

IMG_20190127_165714517.jpg

My first action was to resteem something I immediately regretted reblogging, an action that, I discovered too late, could not be undone. What would people think of me?! Had I made a bad impression on my very first day?

Fortunately, it seemed no one had noticed.

At this point, I had no idea what I was doing. I held no cryptocurrency and had only a vague idea of what that was. I had never blogged or read others blogs. My experience on social media was limited to FB, which I very much wanted to leave.

I spent the next few days casting my worthless upvote on posts that were months old, and spent hours composing comments for those posts too, running out of the mysterious RC before lunch.

No response.

Not to be deterred, I started posting poetry. You can imagine the reception poetry from a nobody got - NADA. I then posted some of my very best poetic stuff!

Still NADA.

Trying to find both my voice and a niche, I started a series of Advice by Haiku For Newbies (abandoned after #8, which earned 2 cents), the first of which was:

in the beginning
I placed my most treasured work
and no one noticed

Salvation came from @freewritehouse, which adopted me, and my fortunes took a big turn for the better. I wrote an effusively thankful post to that community (before communities were even a thing) for its support in my early days. Here is an excerpt from that post

This week of my adoption has been quite a rush! I saw my followers swell from ten or so to over forty! My funds soared from under 20 cents to over $1.20! I wrote at least five minutes of fiction every single day! As small as these may seem to many, to me they were unimaginable just one short week ago.

Look at me now! Three years old, and closing in on dolphin! Even @dandays follows me, as the 143rd account he has followed, an auspicious number!

I have hit the big time!

Thank you to everyone who has helped me get here. I love you all.

Enough about me - I have packing to do!!

Thank you for reading my birthday post.

I have a dolphin joke I'd love to tell right now but the community admires you too much for me to diminish your comment section with a sexually inappropriate innuendo.

That Haiku is hilarious. =}

Happy however many years you said young lady, I only wish I followed sooner. Getting to know your ways is a pleasure. Same time, same place next year?

💖

wow that was beautiful

Aw...

I don't see now why I wouldn't be here then. I'm finally getting a good stride going, have met many very cool people, and have made several good friends.

Thank you for appreciating my little poem. I put it in a lot of my posts, but so far, you are the first to get it.

And thanks for alerting me to my birthday! How fun has this been?!

Any better would be illegal.

ps - my rep went up .03 on this one! Whopping!

 3 years ago (edited)

That short for Republican?

yes I went 3 hundredths of a person farther to the right on my birthday. It will take me 10 more years (posts) to go to 70% Republican (rep) at that pace.

I hope that you will join the Dolphin club soon milady.
You successfully reminded me how tough things were right at the beginning.

!PIZZA

@owasco! I sent you a slice of $PIZZA on behalf of @papilloncharity.

Did you know you can earn $PIZZA through Hive-Engine Diesel Pools? (3/10)

Thank you! It was hard, wasn't it? And now look at you, a big shot!! I'm so happy to have come across you in this vast space.

Oh yes, I still keep that 00:00 and 00:02 in mind and it took me a long time to get going.

Hahaha, no my friend, "big shot" will never be me, as even at Papillon I work behind the scenes. All that it takes is persistence and perseverance that you also know very well.

Congrats on your achievements.

Happy 3rd Hive birthday @owasco and well done for persevering! It was not easy in the beginning for all of us, but your hard work has paid off. Hive certainly is a much friendlier and more welcoming platform for newbies than the old Steemit ever was. It was not easy but has been so worth it moving here! Keep on Hiving @owasco :)

Happy Hive Birthday @owasco
🎉🎈🎂🎉🎈

I am sure you realised by now, that you were at the right place, right time!

Crazy to see that @arcange welcomed you at the time, and is still dropping a (real) comment 3 years later!

Cheers to you @owasco 🍸 Happy Anniversary!

How do you know he welcomed me at the time?

Did you get a good night's sleep after all that digging and brushing and storing? I hope you like tomatoes! That's another veggie I eat very little of. Tomatoes, which I had too much of, (about 50 pounds I'd say) and potatoes. I prefer my veggies either sweet, or green I guess.

How do you know he welcomed me at the time?

I went to stalk on your page and went to your first posts hahaha 😆

Did you get a good night's sleep after all that digging and brushing and storing?

Yes thank you, I am actually taking a day off, no potatoes today!

50 lbs of tomatoes!!! That's some serious harvest, I have enough of tomatoes and must have grown only few pounds. You made some sauce?

Yes! First ever canning event as an unsupervised adult. Made a huge mess and sucked up two days!!! Now I have enough canned tomatoes to last me the rest of my life, the way I eat them. One great thing about growing my own food is that it switches up my eating habits. I'm looking forward to figuring out what to do with my seven canned quarts, and hefty gallon or more of frozen. I also ate so many I got sick of them. That's the only thing I had enough of to preserve. Next year!

I'll have to go back and look. I don't recall anyone commenting on my posts for months after I joined.

One great thing about growing my own food is that it switches up my eating habits

Hahaha it's a nice way to say, that you will probably eat the same thing for a while. At least I know what I am eating, which becomes a rarity in these day and age.

I do not see any reason not to celebrate such an event and drop a real and friendly comment 😉

When I saw that you had commented, I was verklempt! Thank you!

My pleasure 🌹

Happy Anniversary @owasco

Yes, I too have to say it is Marianne and the FreeWrites that kept me going in the early part of this journey

Here's to Dolphin Days ;D

They were the BEST, back in the heyday, wonderwop, fitinfun, deirdyweirdy are gone. But a lot of us remain, and stop by now and then. I am hoping to get busy supporting freewritehouse in administrative ways, if I ever get to where I am going next. Soon!!!

Thank you!

Wonderwop and deirdyweirdy? ooooh I didn't know this
I do know about fitinfun... she was in my country

Thank you for letting me know

I think deirdy is still on earth, at least I hope so, but Uncle Bruni left us some months ago. Very sad day!!!

Whoops... Ok ok

Yes, WonderWop was just so full of positivity and love
The world will miss a good one <33

He is missed for sure. But still here as well.

I am happy that you found this place - happy that I found it too. It is not those strange dollars. It is the creative flow - the wackadoodle doodle - Space pub music - your poetry.

Aw...
Yes this space has enlarged my world enormously! I have friends, some of them very good friends, in countries I have never set foot. Thank you for being among them.

Likewise I am astounded how technology can enlarge your group of friends. It happens so it must be. Thank you right back.

@owasco Congratulations on your three years in Hive, may the successes continue to rain and the friendships grow.

Thank you!

Happy Hive Birthday to you @owasco! Lord, I remember that grind when I first joined in 2016....writing, writing, writing and nada. Then all of a sudden someone notices you and the rest is history. It was all so new and no one really knew what they were doing back then. It's pretty incredible to reflect back on those years and all of the changes this blockchain and the community have brought into our lives. My favorite part has been the network of friends I have all over the world now.

When I started it seemed that everybody knew what they were doing except for me. Once I got over the first hump, help was easy to find.

I am so happy that I, somehow (I am still the only hivean I know in the flesh), found this space. I can't imagine how I would have gotten through covid confinements without this portal to the entire world.

I'm so glad you're here! I remember your post three years ago to freewritehouse and how many ways you have supported the community, even before #communities and #hives became a thing.
Love the story of a supposedly disastrous resteem/reblog, and nobody noticed.
That was a good thing/bad thing. Because posting your best poems, again, nobody even noticed. oh no!
You're getting more notice now, and rightly so. You know I'm ever a fan of yours, no matter how many others come and go!

You're my #1 fan!!! I am so grateful to have met you here, you were among the first to support me.

I remember thinking "how on earth does she write so much in five minutes?!" Your answer is when I really felt the warm and fuzzies for freewriting:

I cheat!

Go going.. @owasco Posting what to want and finally getting some recognition.👍

Happy birthday on the chain!
