Who's Branch/Perch Is It Anyway?

Renewal, rebirth new season, Spring has arrived!

Birds slowly start to arrive you haven't seen some for awhile, keep looking, not dressed in full regalia to perform for the ladies quiet yet, come with males, small touches give an indication of what is yet to come.

3582-LaughinDove.JPG

Laughing Dove shyly asked from ground below, well who's branch is it anyway?

My handsome tree in corner of garden, I eventually put concerted effort in to identify for years thought it may be a Cape Ash, then I saw one. It is an African Dogwood Rhamnus prinoides flowering during Spring (that's now) attracting birds and insects, (monkeys too). During November/December red berries turn into little black berries, next round of feasting available. This tree is not related to the Dogwood of North America or Asia, and is native to South Africa.

African dogwood tree (Rhamnus prinoides)

Well who's branch is it anyway, the birds appear to have learned this branch I pop up and see them regularly, pose on threat and sit quiet surveying the ground to do their "shopping" of insects of worms on the ground below.

2292-Kingfishers_African Dogwood_Rhamnus prinoides.JPG

To be sure I got it right, two Brown-hooded Kingfishers appeared...

I would have to say the Brown-hooded Kingfisher is the most friendly visitor almost daily.... all year round, perhaps this is rightfully his/her branch!

3588-Kingfisher.JPG

In nature no one owns a branch, so here are some feathered friends using when vacant.

Southern Black Flycatcher (Melaenornis pammelaina)

3667-Bulbul.JPG

Black-eyed Bulbul or Common Bulbul (Pycnonotus barbatus)

Looking into the tree...., smaller and some larger birds come into sight, these photographs normally taken outside the home where no stealth mode is offered.

Fork-tailed Drongl (Dicrurus adsimilis)

3584-CommonStarling.JPG

Cape glossy Starling (Lamprotornis nitens)

Season change in bird life has happened from start of the month taking these photographs, birds over the last ten days in other words, giving you a general good feeling of life at the moment.

This little Dusky flycatcher I had to rely on a forum to identify, another new arrival or possibly that shy I have never seen this little feathered friend previously.

3433-DuskyFlycatcher.JPG

The Fire finches are back once again, not in their seasonal dress but one is able to recognize the tell tale markings of change.

3685-FireFinch.JPG

Red-billed Firefinch (Lagonosticta senegala)

Mannikins arrived to enjoy some seed at the feeder, another tiny bird one has to be careful of attracting attention with quick flight, feeding here with Cape sparrow who is a lot larger.

3469-Mannekins.JPG

Bronze Mannikin (Spermestes cucullata)

Staying with small birds, one of my favourites that blends in so well with the trees I eventually captured the "Pearl-eye", well keep seeing them moving around rustling the leaves... never out in the open till now!

3598-PearlEye.JPG

Cape white-eye (Zosterops virens)

I hope you enjoy the past almost two weeks of peeking around the garden, with Spring one has to devote time to watching and waiting, so thanks for visiting, that is all for now and I will wait to see the changes and give an update again soon.

Huge thank you Feathered Friends Community and @melinda010100

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

I would love to have monkeys in my garden and I know what you want to reply now - I have no garden anyway 😁

So many beautiful birds in one post - amazing 😀 I was thinking what would be my favourite, but then I saw the Dusky Flycatcher and knew this little guy is my favourite bird in this post, because he looks so sweet 😊

Our birds are slowly leaving to the warmer south and yours are coming back home.

!BEER and !WINE - both make a nice dinner with !PIZZA :)

Part and parcel of living here are the monkeys with daily visit, garden is not very large at least somewhere to walk and take breaks in.

Dusky flycatcher is tiny, very shy and would be my highlight of these birds being a first for me to identify another new little visitor.

Birds are arriving again, always a happy welcoming committee here waiting for them 😄

Did you know PIZZA has a very active community Discord? (1/10)

Oh yes, it's always a pleasure when after the more or less quiet winter the birds come back and wake me up before my alarm rings - I really mean that positively 😁

I'd love to get daily visits of monkeys although I know that then I couldn't let anything laying around anymore then.

Have a great week Joan 🌞

Our permanent resident Hadadah will wake you up bright and early, don't startle them either they tend to whitewash tiles on the roof, cars, trees well anything below so don't look up!

Male monkeys are loud, horny, forever forever causing mayhem, no you know they coming through, you don't really want them 😁

Oh, I have heard the Hadada on YouTube and the roosters from our farmers sound like angels singing against them, especially when more of the Hadada's are together 🤣

I know you are right, but I also know I like them monkeys 😁

Your farmers would like the Hadada for aerating the ground not much more.... and his rooster sure do sound like angels at sunrise in comparison...

Now... back to them monkeys, like children super cute when young! That about sums it up....

Then let's keep the kids and when they are grown up send them somewhere far away, but not before they have made new kids again to keep for a while 🤣

Beautiful birds!

In and out all day long, hear a new call and off we go with camera, definitely don't sit indoors all day @silversaver888

Lovely photos Lady Joan and a great post.

Change of guard indeed.

Some new little faces appearing has been fun trying to capture them, so illusive and shy.

Have a wonderful day!

Bird life is my reality right now, staying in touch with nature visiting me...

Amazing what one can find at home and I also picked up a lovely rain spider in the garden again.

Rain spiders in Grahamstown the size of saucers would come from the old homestead ceiling after rain, also called a rain spider.... they are big!

Oh yes and we know them well as I have posted about ones here a few times.
Massive females and the males are smaller.

In nature no one owns a branch

I love that - just use as and when you need when free 💓

Taking turns on a point of advantage, imagine people ever thinking to do that?

Spring is coming your way, autumn here. I say good bye to the birds who head to you and you will welcome them.
Fantastic post Joan, so many different birds.

Many shy ones I hear or see movement, never a boring moment.

Always look forward to welcoming the migrating birds back, lesser swallows and yellow-billed kites have arrived, always a good sight!

WOW love all those birds so beautiful, as your approaching spring Autumn is heading our way

These little birds fly in and out all day long, new dress for next season. Thanks for visiting!

That’s so cool

Always a pleasure to visit your posts :)

You have a lovely walk, amazing seascape photography, mine is the birds while really trying to get down to the beach. Life is strange, have a wonderful new week, send regards to Lulu.

Thanks kindly
