Esta es una historia real. Solo cambiaré los nombres de las personas para proteger sus identidades.
Esto fue lo que le sucedió a una amiga, Ana. Quien soltera y a sus 41 años se había encontrado con un buen prospecto que se mostraba como todo un agradable caballero.
Ana, quien vivía con su madre, se estaba preparando para esa noche para ir al cine con aquel agradable caballero. Pensar en esa salida le generaba entusiasmo y claro, todo lo que sentimos cuando estamos a punto de salir con una persona que nos gusta y nos parece interesante, ustedes saben, las mariposas en el estómago.
Eran las 6pm y Ana estaba en el baño preparando su cabello y maquillándose cuando su madre, que ya iba de salida, se acerca y le dice: “Hija, acabo de poner las caraotas a ablandar en la olla de presión. Estas pendientes de eso y de guardar la ropa, por favor.”
Ana le respondió: “Si, mamá. No hay problema.” Y sigue en lo suyo pensando en lo que se le avecinaba esa noche; el cine, la película, cotufas, la compañía de aquel caballero y el enigma de qué sucedería luego…
Entrada las 8pm Ana se reúne con su cita. El caballero fue a buscarla a su casa y le abrió la puerta del carro para que ella se subiera. Todo un príncipe y ella, la princesa afortunada.
Llegan al cine, entran a la sala y ya con sus cotufas listas, algunos dulces y bebidas para acompañar la película que prometía ser emocionante, ambos se acomodaban en sus asientos sintiendo esa picardía. La química entre los dos, era innegable.
La película da inicio y mientras transcurre, el protagonista avisa a la policía que hay una bomba en un barco. Había mucha tensión en ese momento de la película. Nadie sabia lo que podía pasar si la bomba llegase a ser detonada, créanme, NADIE.
Cuando de pronto, lo impensable sucedió…
¡La bomba fue detonada!
Aquella explosión fue algo descomunal, tanto en la escena como en el sonido. Ana se levantó de la silla y con sus manos en la cabeza gritó con todas sus fuerzas: ¡¡¡¡AY LAS CARAOTAS!!!!
Si, justo en ese momento Ana recordó que había salido de su casa sin haber apagado la estufa donde estaban las caraotas que su mamá le había pedido que estuviese pendiente. El susto fue tan grande, que de solo recordar que esa olla aun estuviese en la estufa encendida, le hacia imaginar que la explosión de la bomba en la película, fuese la de su cocina en su apartamento.
Rápidamente sale del cine, tomó un taxi. Rumbo a casa sus pensamientos eran difusos, los nervios no la dejaban pensar en nada que no fuese: “¡espero que el apartamento no se haya quemado!”
Cuando llega, ya eran casi las 10pm. Nota que hay un montón de vecinos afuera del edificio, estaban los bomberos tratando de averiguar de donde salía tanto humo. Ella vió la situación y entró al edificio como si nada. Apagó la olla de presión que ya solo había quedado para chatarra y abrió las ventanas para que empezara a salir todo el humo.
Luego de aquel impactante susto, se acuerda de su cita. Lo había dejado en sala de cine sin haberle explicado NADA, ni porque se fue tan repentinamente y sin que supiera el motivo de aquel desgarrador grito “¡Ay, las caraotas!”.
Bueno, así sucedió. El hombre nunca llamó y ellos jamás se volvieron a ver, al menos hasta el sol de hoy. Siempre que recordamos esa historia nos retorcemos de risa, sin duda, quedará para los buenos recuerdos.

A date with an unexpected ending!
This is a true story. I will only change the names of the people to protect their identities.
This is what happened to a friend of mine, Ana. She was single and 41 years old when she met a good prospect who was a very nice gentleman.
Ana, who lived with her mother, was getting ready to go to the movies that night with that nice gentleman. The thought of that outing generated excitement and of course, everything we feel when we are about to go out with a person we like and find interesting, you know, the butterflies in the stomach.
It was 6pm and Ana was in the bathroom preparing her hair and putting on her makeup when her mother, who was on her way out, comes up to her and says: "Daughter, I just put the beans to soften in the pressure cooker. Keeping an eye on that and putting the clothes away, please."
Ana replied, "Yes, Mom. No problem." And she went about her business thinking about what was coming up that night; the cinema, the movie, popcorns, that gentleman by her side and the enigma of what would happen next....
At 8pm Ana meets her date. That gentleman came to pick her up at her house and opened the door's car for her to get in. Quite the prince and she, the lucky princess.
They arrived at the movie theater, entered the room and with their popcorn ready, some candies and drinks to eat during the movie that promised to be exciting, both settled in their seats feeling that mischief. The chemistry between the two was undeniable.
The movie starts and as it goes on, the main character warns the police that there is a bomb on a ship. There was a lot of tension at that point in the movie. No one knew what could happen if the bomb were to be detonated, believe me, NO ONE.
When suddenly, the unthinkable happened....
The bomb was detonated!
That explosion was something huge, both in scene and sound. Ana got up from her chair and with her hands on her head she shouted with all her might: ¡¡¡¡AY THE BEANS!!!!
Yes, just at that moment Ana remembered that she had left her house without turning off the stove where the beans were that her mother had asked her to keep an eye on. The scare was so big, that just remembering that the pot was still on the stove, made her imagine that the explosion of the bomb in the movie, was the one in her kitchen in her apartment.
Quickly leaving the movie theater, he took a cab. On the way home her thoughts were fuzzy, her nerves wouldn't let her think of anything but, "I hope the apartment didn't burn down!"
When she arrives, it's almost 10pm. She notices that there are a lot of neighbors outside the building, there were the firemen trying to find out where so much smoke was coming from. She saw the situation and entered the building like it was nothing. She turned off the pressure cooker that had been left for scrap and opened the windows to let all the smoke out.
After that majestic scare, he remembers his date. She had left him in that movie theater without explaining ANYTHING to him, nor why she left so suddenly and without him knowing the reason for that heartbreaking cry "Oh, the beans!".
Well, that's how it happened. The man never called and they never saw each other again, at least to this day. Whenever we remember that story we always squirm with laughter, no doubt, it will remain for the good memories.
