This is one of the stories I heard when I was little. We lived in a compound filled with people and children so most times at night we gather to sing songs and tell stories and this was one of it but then I am putting it in pigin English. Enjoy!🙃
One day, Tortoise hear say Lion dey do big birthday party for forest. Dem say food go plenty, rice go reach heaven, and jollof aroma don already dey trend for bush WhatsApp group.😅Tortoise wear him best agbada, spray perfume wey fit wake dead mosquito, and waka go the party. But gate people stop am.“Who invite you?”Tortoise smile, “Me? I invite myself. I be VIP - Very Important Pikin!”😏Dem pity am enter.
As food reach table, Tortoise shout, “Make una no rush o! Table manners first!” but before anybody blink, na him spoon first enter cooler.He chop rice like say tomorrow no dey. Meat wey suppose reach ten animals, disappear like rapture.
Monkey look am say, “Tortoise, you no dey shame?”Tortoise reply, “My brother, hunger no get respect for shame.”😂 (ahbi no be so?)🤣
After food finish, Lion announce, “Anybody wey no bring gift go wash all the plates.”
Na so Tortoise freeze ooo....🤣 Dem hand am sponge and bucket. Na so our oga wash plates till night, singing, “If I know, I for carry pure water come as gift.”

Have finally made it here....
Among all the numerous story told during my childhood. This is the only story that is living rent free in my head.
Once upon a time, the birds wanted to organise a feast in the sky, as per say tortoise Na foody. He didn't want to be left out. But he reasoned how he will fly with the birds since they feast will be taking place in the sky. As sense man, he begged the birds to share their wings with him so he can fly too. And they agreed.
When they finally made their way to feast, everyone was sited and he stood up to introduce himself saying his name is 'All of you'
So when it was time for the item 6 Na...they said this food is for all of you..Na so my guy take chop everything.
The birds were angry and collected their wings back, you know that feelings when you borrow person wig go misbehave, the owner come collect for the occasion. Na Wetin been do tortoise.
So since he could not fly back, he asked the birds to go tell his wife to bring out all the soft things, so he can land safely. But his wife did otherwise. By this, he fell down and his shelf broke into pieces.so the birds helped him fixed them, but the scare still remain till today. Which is the tortoise rough body.

Stories I've been told are actually many but most of them are now running away as I'm about catching them to select as my comment but it is well.
I remember that most of the story my mum told us then was about tortoise. How cunny he is and how he would always eat his poundedyam as yam (Yoruba would say O JE IYAN E NISU)
They were so many and I don't think I can even remember exactly how the stories were told anymore but I could remember the names of the predator and the prey 😂.....
Is it the one of tortoise and the wife Yannibo or tortoise and snail, tortoise and the farmer... So many but I hope my hubby will be sweet enough to remember and tell them or I might still remember later but right now I begin to wonder how many of tortoise stories we were actually taught to make us learn from his mistakes and not be like him which I think also shaped us mentally no matter how untrue the stories are.

every story is about the tortoise 🐢 his cleverness and wisdom, even this song gwo gwo gwo that went viral courtesy of brain jotter the interpretation of that song is a story of the tortoise and the elephant, tortoise is just so wise I wish scientists can experiment the brain of that animal to know of it's actually true ...or is it just a fairytale 🤔....
Alot of stories have been told,I even recently wrote about one in one community, can't remember . I have heard a lot but many has fade away.
One I can remember again is about tortoise who lied that he is sick to his wife and children just bcos his wife just cooked a delicious meal, porridge his best food and he wanted to be greedy, he told his wife to go to market and get him herbs and told his children to go to his neighbors house to play that he want to rest,all this just so that he can be alone. When they all left ,he went to the kitchen and he almost finished the porridge, when he heard the door opened he rush to put the rest under his cap on his head and run back to bed ,when his wife got back and get to the kitchen to prepare the herbs,she found out there is no porridge in the pot anymore, so she went to her husband (tortoise) by that time tortoise couldn't hold up to the hotness he feels on his head ,he opened his cap , a handful of porridge dropped, he shouted his head, his wife saw that his head had been burned by the porridge, well with every effort to make hair grow back there ,all was abortive . That is why till today, tortoise has no hair .
