The only reason I am still on Hive is because I have met people I engage with on a personal level. So my answer is YES. š
You are right though, dangling āengagement carrotsā is pretty disingenuous. I remember when Curie would have comment contests. It was nice to get a bunch of involved post comments, but knowing they were there just because of a contest felt weird.
As it is, I have my handful of peeps. People I have connected with off the blockchain (in person, via gift exchanges, or in voice chats), but whose friendship I earned through genuine interaction on the blockchain.
But like the real world, I think there are introverts and extroverts on Hive. So people are going to form these relationships in their own time and way.

I think perhaps you misunderstood my statement... yes there are many amazing people that I have connected with over the years too and I am blessed to have their engagement on my posts to this day still... but I was referring to these "community leaders" that throw their votes around and speak all day long about "community" - how many of THOSE people actually give you written feedback on your tomato soup recipe lol :D
Absolutely! It does feel bloody weird... because it IS weird! haha
Judging by the enormous lack of engagement on about 99.99999% of the posts I visit on a daily basis (which is a LOT) - EVERY person here is either a total introvert that has zero interest in engaging... or their keyboards are broken lol :D
