Have you always wanted to ask me something?
Now is your chance, there won't be another!
(ok, ok, there will)

Hit me up in the comment section with a question and I will do my best to answer it. I post a new AMA post every 2 months or so.

What is an AMA?

AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.

How long will I answer questions?

I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in.

What type of questions can you ask?

I'm open to pretty much anything but my interest fall in the following categories:

  • Hive
  • Hive Witness
  • Crypto
  • Gaming (Video & Board)
  • Hunt: Showdown
  • Photography
  • Development
  • Technology
  • Productivity
  • Movies & TV
  • Comedy
  • Memes
  • Waiting for GPUs to come in stock

Don't feel limited to the above categories, just things I generally know about.

This AMA brought to you by Down With The Trumpets by Rizzle Kicks

So let's get this shit started!

What are the best tools to analyze your hive posts apart from the Leo site?

Analyze how?
I write a lot of tools I use daily.
I have provided some of them to the public on https://hiveengine.usehive.com.

What is the multiplier applied by various tribes to arrive the value of vote based on the staked amount of power? Ex: For 1000 stem vote value is close to 0.21 similarly for BHT, Leo, Sports what is the multiplier?

It varies tribe to tribe as there is an author curve.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

How do you really explain author curve to a layman like me?

When a "curve" is mentioned, most people refer to curation rewards. Hive and some tribes have a curve on author rewards as well.

Take this example, the darker line is what would be consider "linear rewards". You can predict what your rewards would be by only knowing the amount of stake voting and the % of the vote. The rewards follow a linear path based on these two criteria only.

A "curve" is the thin line, where it doesn't follow a straight path. Lower rewarded posts will have a harder time to receive the same dollar value until a certain threshold is met. Posts that make it past this point will receive more rewards than a similarly voted post on a linear curve.

The idea behind a curve is to prevent users sneaking spam with low rewards typically with self votes, creating a penalty for this behavior. Post that are popular will receive more rewards on the top of the curve. Posts near the center of the curve will receive similar rewards under both curves.

In other words, under Hive, the penalty can be as much as 40% on the low end, meaning to reach a 2 cent vote requires almost 4 cents of voting power, but to receive $11 in rewards only takes around $10.

What is the optimum level of investment in Stem coins which would help me to earn a significant level of curation income ? I am new to this platform.

There is no optimal level, it scales linearly.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

When i hold 500 POB tokens, the value of my vote changes daily. At 100% voting power the value some times is 1 token and after few days it becomes 0.98. Why this happens ? Will my vote value reduce continuously ? What factors decide the value of my vote in POB ?

You vote value will change based on how many other people vote. Basically if more stake is voting your votes will go down, if less stake votes that day they will go up.

I don't know if you know but WAX is having issues dealing with all the interest from alien worlds (300k unique users per day). I don't know the specifics, but it seems WAX is dealing with this, by reducing your CPU allowance per wax stake. I.e. making staking more expensive (you probably know better than me)

So how would Hive deal with the same issue, we don't have staked CPU, surely Hive has its limits too? is anybody working on getting the scale needed, incase Hive has their own alien worlds vial app too?

Hive has a resource credit system that adjusts based on how popular a function is. For example, if following users becomes insanely popular thing to do and starts happening more often, the resource credits to do this operation will increase. A better example is claiming account credits, as more people do this, they become more expensive (in terms of Resource Credits).

That being said, the resource credit system is pretty primitive and needs an overhaul, while it would work well for what you mentioned, it does not work as well for individual activity.

Where can I find good documentation on things like setting voter weight for a token like Leo voter and checking current voting power or a specific token.
I am working on project where I want to add this functionality 👍
Thanks in advance

I don't believe there is any documentation, just people talking about it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think this need to be documented. Not sure if there is an initiative already. This will really he’ll need developers.
Thanks a lot for the response.

You mentioned about working on some mini-games before starting a larger project on the previous AMA. How's it going so far?

Have made some progress but other things have gotten in the way. It also isn't a full time project right now.

Nice.

What are your current plans for the Stemgeeks community? Any changes upcoming for community and token?

I am working on SEO, and I working on trying to get a University to start use it.
I am considering a complete rebuild of the site so it no longer uses Nitrous.
There may be a tie in to a couple future projects (mine, and others).

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

simple Question, what's an SEO?

Search Engine Optimization. The art of trying to get your site ranked better on Google and other search engines.

It has changed dramatically and there is very little “seo” you can do these days and it is more proper content creation.

one more question, and thanks for answering the other questions.

I have often wondered, on cross chain bridges, like binance, and hive engine, what are the controls to stop either binance or hive engine intervening mid way through a transfer and potentially stealing money? I trust both these organisations, so I don't mind using their services, but when I think about it essentially aren't we just depositing cyrpto in their account, and they are sending a different crypto from their account back to you.

I had a very nervous 8 hours to wait on the binance bridge one day, moving from EOS, to BEP20 EOS, and it was a largish sum of money.

Whilst I know reputation is a pretty powerful thing, and once there is one incident other people wont use the service, but surely there is a technology that can address this, some sort of escrow service, or would smart contracts help with that? so whilst most organizations setting these things up are reputable and trustworthy, wouldn't it be better to have something that is trustless? and why haven't we done it on hive? is it technology limitations? or maybe it exists, and my understanding is just wrong.

Usually a smart contract that is open sourced and audited.

It is truly the wild west, exchanges are no more trust worthy than a random bagger at your local grocery store.

Hey Mark. As somebody who knows shit and has been around a long time.
What could you personally build that you feel would bring in and retain a lot of users to the ecosystem?

Quick and dirty that would get a few thousand people active and fast.

100 more LeoFinances (difference niches of course, but the same drive).

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Love Leo myself and can see them doing big things this year. 100 of them however would take 100x developers and 100x the money invested. Would it be better to build a way to launch cheap tribes at the leo level with a lot of their features in place for people to manage rather than build?

I don't know how to build or code so wondering how much time, money and people it would take to build a community launcher with dev support. Pay a yearly subscription to maintain development which could even be covered by ad revenue during the year.

The more communities/tribes that launch the cheaper it would become over time as the team receives more annual subscriptions over time and can increase development.

You can still own the community and break away after launch to do your own thing but for anybody without a dev team, paying for maintenance and updates might be a better model.

Just thinking out loud.

Would it be better to build a way to launch cheap tribes at the leo level with a lot of their features in place for people to manage rather than build?

We have done that, we have tons of tribes, no other tribe has gotten much external exposure.

The more communities/tribes that launch the cheaper it would become over time as the team receives more annual subscriptions over time and can increase development.

The problem is onboarding, we have a very difficult time with that.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

We have some tribes but they cost a lot to set up and even more to add any real features to. A basic tribe still isn't suitable to most people as it involves a messy onboarding experience, multiple keys and a struggle to learn how to operate on any of the sites. While we have lots of tribes we haven't seen an improvement in the basic issues of user experience and marketing.

For me a tribe would need a light account for new users until the find their feet.
Multiple sign-up options. Facebook, email, google, twitter as standard.
An introduction phase with tutorials for getting started.
A curation team to find, encourage and engage new users until they grow a following or find their feet.
A help team to contact and ask questions on site.

From the tribes side they would need marketing and advertisement. People won't join what they can't see or understand quickly. Once you can get people into the eco-system through a tribe they will fall into other parts fairly quickly as a lot of content spans across multiple tribes and talks about apps in the system.

You say that leo has gotten external exposure but they are the only ones who went out and made some. They created products that appeal to a wider audience and then went to existing social media and created a presence. Look at their twitter game. They are also preparing to launch a marketing campaign for cubfinance which will get people to take notice but i have not seen any other tribe make an effort to promote.

I'm hoping this will change when we have an SMT like solution. My gut says it won't be "SMTS" but some other form of token support and smart contracts. Then we can try to get the next Gods Unchained to use Hive.

For me a tribe would need a light account for new users until the find their feet.

This can already be done on a project by project basis. DLive had "light accounts" years ago. From what I have seen, I don't see "light wallets" happening any time soon if at all. With RC pools, I think this will be a moot issue.

Multiple sign-up options. Facebook, email, google, twitter as standard.

While LEO has this, I know HiveOnboard has been very receptive to adding similar options for HiveOnBoard which would extend out to any service that decides to use it.

Agree 100%, but they also have a very unique advantage. It is a niche that is common with every single user on Hive. While STEM (My own tribe) is more popular in the real world, there are very few on Hive who actually care about STEM, where as everyone here cares about making money and crypto, that's why they are here in the first place.

Also every thing done for Leo is related to the niche. For example, if I made a Liquidity Pool and Bridge for STEMGeeks, do you think anyone in the outside world would care? If I am onboarding Science and Technology people, it has nothing to do with it and they wouldn't care. People on Hive would care, because it is related to their "niche" of being here, but in terms of STEM it isn't even remotely related and if I got Students, Professors, Scientists, Engineers, they wouldn't care less about those things. Yet those are the things that are needed to grow a token. If you think about this, it makes sense how Leo has a huge advantage.

As for most of what you said, I agree with just not as easily done as said.

is it time to start selling gods unchained cards / chests.... soon?

Soon, but not yet.
Genesis cards are not on Immutable X yet. So you have to pay gas fees.
Once they are on Immutable X, it will be free instant transactions and will be a lot easier to sell them.

DS1, 2, or 3 ur fav?

I beat 3 2 years ago up to plus 4. Liked 3 the most. 1 was pretty good. 2 is a bit weird imo

Bloodborne is my favorite.
I really like DS1 the most but DS3 is the the best quality of life.

Were you a fan of Babylon 5 when it was on? Star Wars or Star Trek? Kirk or Picard?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Haven’t seen Babylon 5 but I want to eventually. Never liked StarTrek it was too low budget.

I did really love the remake of Battlestar Galactica. Never saw the original though.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I vaguely remember watching the original BSG when I was a kid. I was more of a TNG guy than The original series. I still find myself watching it through the week on BBC America. Babylon 5 was amazing, but they moved the time slots around so much that my dad and I lost track of it and never got to watch the whole series. The first couple of seasons were amazing. I also loved a lot of the StarGate shows.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I missed StarGate as well, saw the movie but that's it. I've seen clips of the show online but it felt a lot like StarTrek in terms of production quality which made it hard to take seriously.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I thought the production was really great and the storylines were pretty cool too. The way they expanded the whole mythology of the movie was great. Nothing tops the movie though.

hi there! my question for you: what do you think is the highest market cap that this bull market can achieve? and in addition, what is your expectation of HIVE, what is the highest price HIVE can achieve in this bull market?

I honestly have no clue and wouldn't even guess. I'm a firm believer that anyone that tells you how high a token will go or drop is full of shit. There are so many variables it is incalculable and tokens rise and fall for the craziest reasons, not to mention many unknown trigger events happening from now and then.

Why do you think Hive is STILL so underrated?

What is one thing that we are not yet doing but we must do it to so that people get to know about this amazing platform?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Why do you think Hive is STILL so underrated?

Lack of marketing.

What is one thing that we are not yet doing but we must do it to so that people get to know about this amazing platform?

Marketing.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Do you think why are we not focusing on it that much?

Is it a lack of skills?
Is it hard to market Hive at this stage?
Is the world not ready for Blockchain-based social media?

Hive has great developers & content creators but not enough marketers. Although I see a few initiatives TRYING to take care of it but they are not enough.

I want to understand this because I want to do something about it. I have been working in the marketing sector and I know a few things or two. Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Marketing is really expensive. To successfully market something like Hive would cost millions. There is a marketing proposal approved and funded and we can see how it goes but I’m skeptical.

Everyone has been focused on building things or making money and very little focus has been on marketing. I think a big factor is the learning curve and complexity. It isn’t like signing up for Facebook. There needs to be a lot of education and we haven’t really done that.

Chocolate chip cookies or chocolate cake?

Seriously? I know this question was for for marky, but is there anyone who would take chocolate cake over a homemade chocolate chip cookie?

Me!!! I love homemade chocolate cake!

Homemade chocolate cake is good, but I think you should do a taste test again, just to be sure. Maybe you've forgotten just how good from-scratch chocolate chip cookies are, especially right out of the oven :-)

Ohhhh! With nuts? I'm all in.

There are some weird individuals in this world so you never know 😂 also have you ever tried a chocolate chip cookie Cake? 🤤 Best of both worlds

I have not, haven't even heard of that before, but I'll be on the lookout for it. I do like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

COOKIE CAKE
Is the best thing ever and if you fill it with ice cream OMG!

and now i want one...

Cookies.

Hello @themarkymark I have some questions, how can our community get support from you curation trail?

I know you as part of witness in Hive, and we start build a Community named Camping Club Hive (CCH community), if you have a little time, please check it on Hive community.

Thankyou and greeting from Indonesia 😅

I do not support communities specifically. I support individuals.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hmmm.. Sound challenge to me... What of criteria individual got your support Mark?

I don’t have specific criteria. I add/remove as I choose at any given moment based on what I see.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Looks great choice, But I saw you put up auto votes for some individuals, is this part of the strategy?

Yes.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Ok. one more, as a witness on Hive, what do you think if Hive Blog users also use steemit blogs? and would you support it?

what benefits have you got?
can I be like you?

what benefits have you got?

Health and life insurance.

can I be like you?

Why would you want that, wouldn’t you rather be you?

Hello, I was wondering if you allow previously posted content in Stemgeeks? I have an older article that I have written, and would love feedback on it.

Reposting content is not something I would want to encourage.

Thanks, I'll definitely post my next tech article there then but no older ones :) Can you please suggest a quality community for cross posting?

There is a STEMGeeks Hive community as well as the Tribe (https://stemgeeks.net). I don't know what you are writing about so I can't really suggest a community.

It's an article about how screens have pretty much wiped out illiteracy. Nothing overly technical, but I was hoping to get good, intelligent engagement on it :)

How doe it feel to be the POS loser scumbag that killed Steem? Anyone ever wonder why Hive is half the price of Steem? Mainly because Hive shouldn't even exist, but then mostly because of this markymark guy.... I would still beat the living shit out you if I ever came across you irl you little bitch! Hive should boycott you just like Steem! True low life bottom of the barrel type person this guy is. Almost all your upvotes come from your own alt accounts, and you use stemgeeks as a bully platform to hide your scam behind!!! Beware of this loser!
