To get the basics out of the way, I joined July 1st, 2017 but I didn't actually post or do anything until July 22, 2017. I am a Hive witness and developer. I am married and have a son. I enjoy movies, 3D printing, technology, photography, gaming, BBQs, not getting Corona, and hanging out in the pool with friends and family.
My first crypto was BTC when it was around $360 and I ran over 50 GPUs mining Ethereum before I discovered Steem. Over 25,000 posts and comments were censored on Steem and 170,000 Steem stolen directly from my wallet by Justin Sun and rogue witnesses. Ever since then I have been 100% focused on Hive.
While a lot of my time is spent on anti-abuse on Hive, my primarily interest these days have been onboarding and engagement. I recently ran a Hive Hackathon raising over 12,000 Hive reward pool to reward cool new projects developed for Hive. I am working on getting the second Hive Hackathon started soon.

Ice Cream, easily. Not a big cake fan unless it is very moist.
Then I highly recommend for you to try the "Tres Leches Cake" (3 milks) cause that is the kind of moist you need in your life.

When we make cake we put a cup of boiling water in it. It makes a huge difference. In fact it is just the Hershey's coco powder recipe on the box but it is really good.

What type of content does Hive need to generate more interests? what type of content doesn't work for the blockchain? excluding the obvious plagiarism and spam.
I think most any content can attract users, almost any niche has an active audience somewhere on the web. It's about getting their attention.
Why instead of punish people for still using Steem, the witness don't create incentives for these people choose Hive instead of Steem?
There are incentives, we don't steal your tokens out of your wallet. We do not have a small group of people circle jerking a picture and a paragraph for $200+ on trending every day. We are actually creating changes and improvements that are not just censorship, stealing funds, and linking Tron to the blockchain.
I am not talking about the stolen funds, and although a fully understand the anger.
It's only a simple matter of using incentive instead of punishment to make people want to stick around Hive, and not Steem.
Because everytime I see someone getting flagged/attacked on the comments because they still cross-post on Steem, well... It's most likely that they will eventually use the service provided by the competition.
Well, maybe not single picture and paragraph, but there is still a lot of circle-jerking going around here....
But if the "circlejerking" happens outside the old and powerful, I guess it isn't allowed huh...

There is no community directive to bash people posting on both, those are individual people making individual choices with their stake.
Still not the point, since i am not comparing wich is better, but the perception how people are not being welcomed here because they still use steem.
I don't participate in that activity, anyone who does is doing it on their own free will.
There are two types of users who fit in the category you describe, those who helped facilitate the hostile take over by supporting Justin Sun's sock puppet witnesses and those who post on both platforms to get rewards on both.
I have zero sympathy for the first group, I'm not a fan of the second but I don't discourage them either.

This is a reflection of some witness thoughts about people posting on both chains.
A lot of this attitude might not be posted on HIVE, but I have seen a lot like this both from witness and from other users across some of the community discord channels.
Or this post from a curation community, where some witness downvoted (including @themarkymark) for no apparent reason, at least none that were publicly explained, but apparently, through some discord conversation, the reason given was that @project.hope is doing his curation project both here and on Steem.
If you look deeper, there is probably a lot more examples, but sorry, not much time to search for them right now.
Funny. I'm not welcomed to use Steem by the powers that may be there, so why do you make it sound one-sided?
Still not the point. The issue I am talking is not about whoever is to blame for whatever happened on Steem.
My point is about how many actual users you want HIVE to keep, instead of they moving completely to another platform, or even how many more people the witness want to join HIVE.
People are more willing to stay on a place if they are incentivized to, and not punished for going across the street.
That is marketing 101...
But if network growth isn't something the witness want for the blockchain, well... just keep doing what you guys are doing.

Not easily but everyone has their limits.
If the integrity of the chain was compromised beyond recovery would likely be it for me. There are usually always options, like how we forked to Hive.

And, for a real question - what's your opinion on IoT in the real-estate world? The company I work for has been busy installing smart locks and such in show suites to allow large landlords to provide self-guided tours. Is IoT integration like this example something you're keeping an eye on and interested in? Or do you think it's going to be a fad that flops?
I love Shepard Book, I almost answered him for the previous question of who in history I would want to spend a week with.
I'd have to go with Mal, I think they are all fantastic and is what made the show so great. Sheppard would be a close second.
I think IoT is fantastic for creating new and unique ways to take advantage of technology in creative ways. Unfortunately most IoT has no respect for security.
I have heard of smart locks specifically designed for showing houses. Now that smart locks are more common you don’t really need anything unique for real estate.

I read a lot about how Hive needs more exposure to grow its community. I see hive as a community centred social cryptocurrency where members can be rewarded for their engagement and value they bring to the community. Would you agree with this statement? In your opinion what other "super powers" and distinctive advantages does Hive possesses as an ecosystem that could be used in an argument to invite new members?
I believe that is true, for now. I really want to see smart contracts native to the blockchain so we can attract projects like Crypto Kitties, Gods Unchained, Uniswap.
Free transactions with the ability to scale is a game changer. Look at the problems Ethereum is having with outrageous fees and slow transaction speeds. We can solve both of these problems.
Hive and Steem is worth pretty much the same, (~$0,176), do you think Hive will or can ever reach numbers like $5+? - If so, what do you think is the most vital ingredient for that to happen?
I think it will be really difficult without things changing. Most importantly how rapidly we onboard new users and how well we market Hive. We also need more apps that are not just ways to rewards low effort posting.
I know both onboarding and marketing will get better once we do some cleanup in the next few hard forks.
We can reach $100 without a thing changing as thats crypto for you.

There currently is lot of movement among certain groups on Hive. But most people don't have an understanding on how the eco system works, what the real role of witnesses is, how the dao works, how the voting works.
I know, everything has been covered extensively before, but due to the nature of Hive eco system, lots of it gets lost after the 7 days.

What are your thoughts on the WHIVE experiment, and now what LeoFinance is planning for WLEO?
I think it is a good experiment but needs a lot of marketing and liquidity to get enough attention, which we have neither. The gas fees are also proving to be a big hindrance.
I'm so glad you wrote this: "Over 25,000 posts and comments were censored on Steem......" because I'm every now and then dispelling the myth that content can't be censored on the blockchain.

Really the posts were censored by Steemit as they are still on the blockchain. I can see my old posts on Steempeak with a direct link, but my profile says there are none. Unfortunately Steempeak relies on some stuff Steemit provide to show the post list, but I don't expect them to do any more development since they moved to Hive.
My view is: Any method that is used to conceal or impede free access to material that would ordinarily be accessible by an authority be it government or service provider is Censorship. "A rose by any other name...." and all that.
What Steemit have done is definitely censorship and seriously devalues their platform even if there are other ways to see the content as they are the main destination for Steem now. They just couldn't stand to have any dissenting voices. Now I have sold all my STEEM I have no reason to go there.
I'm maintaining my Steemit account simply to gain SBD which I then use to buy Hive. Already done it once. LOL
They started to censor at the node level, and no one wants to run nodes for Steem.
Censorship is not only the removal of information but also the obstruction of it being freely available.
While you can say it is not censorship as it still exists, that is not the only requirement for censorship.
Censorship is the suppression of information not the removal.
I agree Steemit have censored content as they make it hard to see on their own site. They try to pretend 'this is fine' whilst their house burns down (meme in text!). I am done with them.
I don't think they even care enough about what people think to pretend it is fine.
Not likely as they can easily be voted out, not one entity owns enough stake to keep a witness in power against the wish of the community.

What are your thoughts about hive in the next 1, 3 and 5 years?
I think the next year we will focus on optimizing the infrastructure, setting us further apart from Steem by changing the chain ID and making other key improvements.
The next 3 years I hope we can have finished a few key hard forks so we can focus on on-boarding and marketing.
5 years I think more of what we are doing in 3 years.

As someone who has owned their own business since high school, I was always worried it was a bad time.

Outside of investing/trading, no.
This blockchain experiment is about 4.5 years old, but still only has a few thousand active users. I see various opinions on why it lacks growth (too complex, too free!, downvotes). What do you see as the limiting factor?

I know there are plans to work on these issues once we get past the next few critical hard forks.
Agreed that those are big issues. I do get involved with some of the groups trying to improve things. I think we need to be making progress continually to build awareness and community.

if its super hart to code, it would be in my opinion makes sense to onboard programmers to do that work and fund it with DAO. This would bring Hive to the next level.
I really believe Hive would be the most awesome Blockchain with Smart contracts + Smt. The combination is so powerful with the features Hive already has.
It is a bit of work but we do have developers who are capable of doing it. There are other things that must come first before that can be considered though.

I'd like to see a significantly larger user base.
A lot of what can be done for on-boarding is 2nd layer and not necessarily blockchain level.
There has been numerous discussions, but nothing officially planned at this point.
Do you feel that your past history of selling votes was a necessary evil or how do you feel about it?
If I didn't do it, someone else would with the same SP and they would have sold votes to pretty much anyone rather than preventing spammers, plagiarists, and scammers from using it.
I'd rather have the system we have now, but that wasn't in the cards back then and none of the bots were preventing abuse of their bots or actively fighting abuse on the chain.
I still believe all platforms have and should have advertising, and at the time that was the only form available.
What had mitigated that issue on hive? Was it the 50/50 split or is it something y'all still content with?
I recall some of the players of old such as boomerang iirc that had little to no accountability.
The EIP gave the community the resources (free downvotes) to combat spam and abuse, they collectively decided Bid Bots were not favorable. The increased curation also encouraged people to curate rather than to sell votes or shit post. Although both of these still happen just not nearly as much.
That being said, very few people actually use downvotes or do anything about abuse.
I intend to help change the latter to fulfill the expectation I have given SFR ppl.
Think I will try to be exclusively a tech facilitator moving forward as it was a lot of drama, bullshit and stress to play flags and robbers.
Sometimes good work is hard. There is a reason no one wants to do it.
For the record and any other readers, I am still ambivalent towards the practice of vote selling even with some ethical controls.
I don't necessarily agree with the "someone else is going to do unethical thing worse than me so I might as well be the one to do and profit from doing x thing in a less impactful way" position.
But I understand why people are were this way considering the highly competitive nature of the platform and the prevailing culture at the time. It was awful.
Only a handful of bid botters worked with us abuse fighters and I will commend that Marky was one of them.
