En Venezuela, estado Mérida, se encuentra el ultimo glaciar de mi país. En mí travesía para conocerlo y acompañada de un guía que ha pasado toda su vida llevando personas a conocer los paramos de ese hermoso estado, nos contó innumerables detalles sobre los glaciales que existieron y la realidad del ultimo con el que contamos los venezolanos.

El glaciar La Corona, poseía menos de un kilómetro cuando lo visite, para llegar hasta el se necesita llegar al puesto de guardia La Mucuy, perteneciente al parque nacional Sierra Nevada. El primer campamento que hice fue en la laguna La Coromoto, desde el comienzo experimente un fuerte cansancio físico, el camino se torna cada vez mas empinado, y cambia de sobre manera las rutas, le comente a nuestro guía que el tenia una memoria muy vivida en varias oportunidades, todo el escenario parecía cambiar de manera muy rápida, al segundo día el esfuerzo paso de ser físico a mental, fue la primera experiencia que tuve de temer por mi (y la única) llevaba dos días caminando, arme y desarme campamento (hasta ese momento ) dos veces, me sentía en el medio de una inmensidad infinita, y realmente así era.

El segundo campamento es el de la Laguna Verde, les voy a describir con una palabra que desde aquel entonces tengo en mi mente de ese lugar: Galáctico. Sí, es un escenario galáctico, lunar, tiene una paleta de colores muy definida y poco variable, la noche ahí fue de las más frías que he vivido, uno de los cielos más únicos de los que he visto hasta ahora.

Al fin me aproximaba al glaciar La Corona, se divisaba con más foco, trataba de registrar con fotografías lo más que podía (habían momentos en que quería contemplar por horas todo lo que estaba viviendo), pero no se podía, estábamos muy cansados, teníamos la meta de llegar hasta el segundo punto más alto de mi país, el pico Humboldt, y quedarnos montados en el glaciar lo más que el tiempo nos regalara.
At last I approached the La Corona glacier, I could see it with more focus, I tried to record as much as I could with photographs (there were moments when I wanted to contemplate for hours everything I was experiencing), but it was not possible, we were very tired, we had the goal of reaching the second highest point in my country, the Humboldt peak, and staying on the glacier as long as time will give us.

En toda la travesía solo vi a mis compañeros de ruta, y muy lejos a dos o tres personas más, venían en descenso del glaciar. Fueron cinco días de mucha introspección, de darme animo para no retirarme (en realidad no tenia opción), de darme fuerzas a mi misma, de animarme a que podía, de no pensar en el tiempo, de no preguntar cuanto falta, porque faltaban días, al tercer día estaba en una relación con mi entorno hermosa (la primera de tantas), a decirles verdad desde esa experiencia cambie maneras de ver mi vida , que precisamente en este momento , en medio de esta cuarentena por el coronavirus están floreciendo más que nunca.

La Corona es el ultimo glaciar que nos queda a los venezolanos, nuestro guía nos comento que va en vías de extinción, y que de ser así, seria el primer país del mundo en quedarse sin glaciar habiéndolos tenido. Pude ver parte de su deshielo, es muy notable. Lo ultimo que he leído es que están haciendo estudios para salvarlo, mis esperanzas están puestas en ello, se que las de cientos, miles y millones de personas también.
La Corona is the last glacier that Venezuelans have left, our guide told us that it is on the way to extinction, and that if so, it would be the first country in the world to be left without a glacier, having had them.
