The energy spent in securing the Bitcoin network is not wasted at all. Rewriting the blockchain must be extremely expensive in order for the blockchain to remain extremely secure. Bitcoin moving to PoS will not be Bitcoin, but yet another fork: BitcoinPoS. Bitcoin is the only one which didn't fail to the main requirement: immutability of the monetary policy.
They will ignore Bitcoin.
They will laugh at Bitcoin.
They will combat Bitcoin. <== We are here

DogeRadio is a very promising project for fighting centralization. Crypto must be resilient to Internet routes shutdowns.
