Been Downvoted or Muted? Here's Why - And A Gentle Advisory On What Natural Medicine IS NOT.

As HIVE gets more users, and the crypto bulls keep running, and we continue to try to tempt great content writers to the HIVE blockchain so they can experience the abundance and love we enjoy both on HIVE and it's various front ends, we feel we have a responsiblity to ensure that our community presents it's best face to the world.

Who are we, and what kind of posts do we support?

And what don't we support? Who might we mute, downvote or gently suggest that their post isn't a #naturalmedicine post?

Of course, some people just don't know what to tag - and some people are knowingly tagging to get some LOTUS. Some people are writing awesome content we'd love to upvote, but they aren't quite a #naturalmedicine post. Some people just take the mick by writing terrible content, and don't really care.

Our curators care.

Our curators have been working to:

  • advise people if their post isn't really a #naturalmedicine post, and to remove the tag if not.
  • downvote and mute plagiarism to zero LOTUS rewards
  • caution against single photo content, blurry pictures or poorly presented posts.

Why do we do this? Because we believe it's only fair - it's not fair that others miss out on rewards when scammers and shitposters are trying to take advantage of the system. Saying that, we also like to help people out that genuinely don't know, and help them be better, especially new users.

What Natural Medicine IS

This is clearly outlined on the community page:

Natural Medicine is the first and original collective on HIVE focussed on all things natural health. It rewards both in HIVE and also with LOTUS, a social coin for enthusiasts of natural health - from herbalism and essential oils, to food as medicine, meditation and spirituality, as well as the relationship of human beings to the natural world through wild-crafting, permaculture and other 'healthy' earth centred practices.

Each of the following is a #naturalmedicine post:

  • An entry into the #plantbased challenge, with clear photos and perhaps a detail about the health benefits of the particular ingredient featured.
  • A post about the therapeutic benefits of art
  • Posts about healthy exercise - we particularly like yoga, tai chi, and other somatic arts but perhaps if you're writing a post about running and how it makes you feel and how it's great for your mental health, that'd be awesome to.
  • Posts about mental health, neuroscience and health, meditation, rewiring the brain for healthier habits, and so on
  • Gardening posts - in the absence of a working #homesteading community on HIVE, and knowing that resilience through self sufficiency and the known mental health benefits of gardening, we're all in here!
  • A post about studying herbalism or naturopathy or TCM and so on - any of the healing modalities.

And so on. Think 'healthy life' and 'wellness'.

What Natural Medicine Isn't

  • If it's a post about the environment, perhaps it's better suited to #ecotrain
  • If it's a post about hiking in a forest, perhaps try #amazingnature
  • If it's a chicken stir fry with no mention of health, try #foodies
  • If it's a single photography of a plant, try #photographylovers

It's Absolutely Not

  • It's not blurry photographs.
  • It's not using information from the internet without sourcing - even if you're writing in your own words.
  • It's not a quick 'add in' line about what makes a walk healthy just to try to get a #naturalmedicine vote
  • It's not using a post that you posted two years ago on Steem, or re-using a post you've already written on HIVE, under your account or someone else.

So, we're clearing out the nettle patch...

If you find yourself downvoted by @lotusmud, don't be upset - just come and say hi in our Discord and chat to us if you believe we've made an error.

If you get a @lotusmud downvote more than once, you're probably scamming - so we'll mute you until you can plead your case. Sometimes we're wrong. But our curators have been doing this for a long time, and they're more than often right.

Part beneficiary of this post goes to @justinparke, @sirenahippie, @minismallholding and @anggreklestari for their incredible work spotting scammers.

Thank you for that informative post. I seem to always have trouble tagging my posts, I don't want to include an inappropriate tag, yet I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to share with others. @naturalmedicine is a thoughtful community, one that is not only enjoyable to read but also very interesting, jam packed with great ideas.

Thanks so much!! We love your posts, and your meditative, thoughtful posts about gardening and life are very often quite appropriately tagged #naturalmedicine! We do tend to ignore a lot of things, but then there's been a lot of mick taking of late. I suppose that means we have more users, which is a good thing?

Good Morning @naturalmedicine. Thank you for reassuring me, that helps a lot. I must say, for years now I have gone to the books to find herbal cures for my children, always being hesitate to give them antibiotics and other prescribed meds. I was always a believer that our own bodies can heal us. Part of of our regiment was raw juicing daily and vitamin supplements, as well as chiropractic care. We always encouraged our kids to be outside in the sunshine and to stay physically fit. It's worked pretty well so far. Thanks again, have a healthful day.

Thank you very much @justinparke, I appreciate your support. I think @naturalmedicine is such a wonderful community, lots of great info with thoughtful posts and comments.
Be well! Naturally 😉

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

😥, yet, too much "engage" is a good thing. Onward and upward 👆

I'll have to remember to use your tag on my health posts. I do a lot of research on natural medicine and am growing plants and herbs for my on health. I sell some and give some away and preserve the rest. I'll start doing some posts on my research. BTW, thanks for your support and upvotes! I'll try to find the time to do more curating and reblogs from your community.

I think there are likely just as many people forgetting to use a #naturalmedicine tag as do abuse the tag. One easy way to never forget is to post directly from our website. !ENGAGE 35

Thanks 👍

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

That's really useful, I think all communities should make one of these posts once and for all so people know exactly what is and isn't suitable for the community

Thanks. The irony is the big downvote on a post designed to help people do the right thing, and support the curators who spend a lot of time trying to help people do the right thing. Sigh. Never mind! We try!

Well, R/C plane repair is certainly not #naturalmedicine content, shame we have to tell that to some people. !ENGAGE 15

Unbelievable, this post is really useful, maybe many times some of us use a tag that has nothing to do with the post, simply for the interest of getting a reward. or because we really have no idea how important it is to use the proper labels.
Very well written and explicit, also to new users can be supplemented by visiting the following link https://hive.blog/hive-120078/@naturalmedicine/not-sure-what-to-write-about-for-a-natural-medicine-blog-post this post has been like a guide for me when I start posting on @naturalmedicine

Very true, but we are flattered that with our success many people have rushed to get a piece of the pie. The link you've shared is also a very valuable one. !ENGAGE 40
