Silence is a necessary good to achieve peace. When we get out of the routine and go somewhere away from the noise of the world, hasn't it happened to you that you say to yourself I need to take a trip to the beach, to the river or anywhere else? Why do you think that is? Just because of stress?

The world is so hyper-connected that there is a constant noise that keeps us from being with ourselves. If it's not the TV, it's the computer, if it's not the phone, someone knocking on your door, the internet; there are so many distracting things that silence seems to have become extinct. And when we move away from all that we get that the silence is not extinct, it's still there, it's just that there is something putting it on one side. And all that noise creates a spiritual dryness. The lack of silence makes us irritable and insensitive; it robs us of happiness, of peace. Why?

Silence, although it may not seem like it, is the beginning of personal well-being. And it may seem relatively unnecessary when compared to other things, such as money. But for the personal construction it is a very rich good, of incalculable value. Because silence is the beginning for listening, for initiating a dialogue. This is how we enter into the process of personal construction. To be able to talk to ourselves, to be able to listen to ourselves, to meditate on our feelings, our reality and everything that may be causing us unnecessary suffering. This is the way to build the balance that will lead us to peace.

texto 1080.jpg

Unfortunately, the world is easily stealing our silence and we are allowing ourselves to be stolen. We are becoming abused with things that can become insignificant just because we want to please the world. And little by little we are turning into machines. You feel overwhelmed, unsatisfied, annoyed, empty, meaningless, exhausted, lost in some cases, that you don't know yourself. And there are consequences such as loss of peace, no serenity, it is difficult to make decisions, the inability to listen to the problems of others and help them, depression, anxiety, anguish, desolation. But above all we accumulate problems and conflicts that seem to have no solution. And the desire to flee from all conflicts is born. Which is not the same as the desire to go to the beach or some other place away from the noise. It is the desire to disappear, because we feel that life itself will overcome us and that the path, we take to make amends is useless.

All these things are only a sign of a lack of silence, of an initiation into a sincere dialogue with yourself. Silence is the beginning of self-knowledge, which allows you to face the world in a better way and without losing yourself in the attempt. Knowing oneself is more important than knowing those around us. To know what we are capable of, to know our limits, to know what fills us with happiness and what fills us with sadness.

To think that silence is something for fools or boring people is normal for those people who have built a fiction to believe that their problems are other people's problems. They are used to dialogue with themselves. And getting started can be difficult. It can be difficult even for people who have been doing this spiritual exercise for years. Since I am a Catholic, I will mention St. Ignatius of Loyola. He clarifies, in his book of spiritual exercises, that if the spiritual exercises that you do not present a difficulty, it is because you are doing the exercises badly. Therefore, there is always going to be something that will slow down the desire to be in silence, to begin the dialogue with yourself. Remember that the world is always a magnet and wants to trap you in its vicious circle that leads you to self-destruction. Remember that there is always something that wants to rob you of the peace, the love that is inside you. That is why silence is so important.

texto 1080.jpg

The greatest good that silence can do is to take you away from the world to be alone with yourself. It has to be a space where you can regain strength in order to listen to your own voice and make the best decisions that will lead you to stay in peace, calm and love.

In conclusion, silence is important because it is the beginning of the spiritual exercises that will allow us to have a dialogue with ourselves. It is a space to regain strength and preserve our peace and happiness.

And to conclude I will say that, if you do not have the habit of doing silence and listening to yourself, you can start doing fifteen minutes a day and then increase the time. It is never too late to talk to yourself. You can start now.

Me hace mejor y me hace sentir bien.

Saludos.
P.D. Para el próximo intentaré poner más imágenes.

Very well said and I so agree. I feel SO much better in silence, and I never knew how much of a difference it could make until I lived alone. In my parents' house it is always noisy. My dad will be watching one TV and my mom will watch another, and my brother would be listening to music. Sometimes it was so overwhelming in such a small house I felt like I could cry because it was just noise beating me over the head, all the time. I started wearing earplugs just so I didn't go completely mad.
Then when I first lived by myself, at first the silence was so different, it was a little weird. I would play the tv or the radio just because I wasn't used to it. But eventually I stopped doing that, and I stopped using my tv altogether. Television is the thing my parents do to numb and distract themselves and not have to think, and it is NOT my thing, even though I was raised with a tv on almost all the time.
Now I almost never have noise-making things on at all. Sometimes I'll watch YouTube or a DVD on my computer but that's mostly it. The "noise" now in my apartment is usually, the heater or the fan or the refrigerator, and it feels so much nicer in my head.
On a side note, in college I took a whole class that was just about St. Ignatius' spiritual practice (it was a Jesuit college).

The silence is that place were coming the personal space (i don't know if call personal space in ingles or exist one word for it). The other people don't know respect our personal space for don't understand that need time for ourself. Normally, The other thinking that the personal space is egoism. And that we does emigrate that a other place doesn't be disturb.

I hope have written everything well and that my message is understood.

Salve

Some people are afraid of being by themselves, because they are afraid of facing their inner demons, I think. So they struggle to understand those who value going within.

Are you sure you use google translator? because you have written perfect Spanish!

Really? Ha ha ha, the only part I wrote off the cuff myself was the part explaining that my Spanish is bad, and the rest is totally Google Translate. It's getting better, that's a good sign. 😂

Saludos.
