Hey Bread Bakers community! Is this a place for failures as well as successes? Because I'm starting to think the internet is a place where we all just lie about what amazing things we do in the kitchen, and never post about when we're total baking losers.
Side note, and a foreshadowing, did you know there's a great bakery in Glastonbury called Burns the Bread? Pretty good name for a bakery I reckon. Surely we all have burnt the bread? Come on, admit it in the comments.
I suppose I could be forgiven, right, because I have a chest infection and I was trying here. I thought if I could get up off the couch and throw some flour into a bowl and make some bread, it wouldn't be an utter waste of a day, amirite? Besides, it needed to be done - I was too sick to go to the shop.
So, I made a quick yeast dough - flour, yeast, water, salt into quite a wet mix. No knead. Except this one has a few variations - you add a cup of oats, some caraway seeds and fennel seeds (which I forgot), sunflower seeds and pepitas, some honey. I usually fold it a few times at half hour intervels for a couple of hours til I'm ready to bake.

Sadly, when I got it out of the oven, it stuck to the edges of the pan and half of the crust came out. My fault, I hadn't measured, and there was way too much dough in there. Hell, I don't even know if it's cooked properly - it's Schrodingers bread right now and is failing the Pretty Rustic Loaf of Bread for Insta Test.
At the same time, I was also making life changing loaf. This is a kick ass loaf with no yeast, and is more of a healthy eating muesli kinda loaf that uses psyllim to hold it together. Google 'My New Roots Life Changing Loaf' and you'll see what I mean. It's so adaptabble - from a base of oats and psyliuum, you add what you like - lots of seeds, dried fruit if you like, some honey, salt, coconut, water, and it gets pressed into a pan to set.
I mean this stuff IS life changing - it's healthy, great for your gut, and is dead easy to make.
Unless you burn it.
Dammit! I've never burnt it before. Here's me trying to rescue a sick day - one of many this fortnight battling this cold and chest infection - and I may has well just been on the couch watching the Hand Maids tale and making myself even more depressed. My 'fffarrk' flew out the window and startled some black birds. Lucky, otherwise I would have baked them in a pie and burnt that too. Blackbird blackpie?
But, luckily I'm not here for Instagram or even to show off on HIVE. I'm here to be human, and if it's edible, it's actually a win, right?
The most important thing is to scrape off the burnt bits, hide them in the compost, open up the windows, and hope hubs doesn't notice. Because even more annoying than burning stuff is Jamie saying every time time I put something in the oven: 'have you got a timer on that? You don't want to burn it'.
With Love,

Bread, cookies, brownies, baked that potato a bit too long... YES! I think we've all done it at some point! That might make a good contest ("writing prompt") sometime: Your worst kitchen disaster! 😁
Oh no, yes, you need the right pan for stew!!!!

Baking needs perfect measurement & Ratio of ingredients, unfortunately 'm also bad in baking. The fact is thats people show only good things, you are amazing to show your flaws...
I know I hate measuring too!!!!!
I dunno if it's ok to say this in the Breadbakers community but ask Jamie for a bread machine for Christmas:)
Hahahahaha no way, I'm allergic to appliances.... I only just got the first microwave I have ever owned ever!
That looks so freakin' delicious, anyhow, that I'd just cut off the burned top and eat the rest.:)
Yup, and the birds got that, so win for them. It's a great recipe... I reckon you'd love it.
This looks healthy 😋
Just cut away the burnt part, and you're good to go.
I did that, and it tastes good!
As long as its still yummy in the end! Ive had so many mistakes, things burnt or turned out not right especially first time trying a new recipe, i made sourdough bagels in bulk to freeze and i overproofed them and all 30 of them came out flat like discs🤣 they still taste good but not bagel like. I feel on socials only the wins are shown not all the failed attempts haha
Ah I hate it when you think you're winning baking for the week and it fails! The bagels would have still been good as crackers haha!

"'have you got a timer on that? You don't want to burn it'." LOL That would be me, trying to remind myself to set the timer... Thank goodness I don't bake!
