Making Udon from scratch in Germany / ドイツでうどんを打つよ

My daughter caught a cold. I asked her what we shall eat for lunch. I suggested veg soup with alphabet pasta but her answer was "Udon! It's for sick kids in Japan". Udon is Japanese thick wheat noodle.

I remember I served Udon when she had a cold. After we talked about Udon, I felt like eating Udon too. Recently @koro-art wrote about her Curry Udon experience, which also made me motivated to take time and effort to make Udon.

I took out my pasta machine and made udon after a while. These days, dried udon noodles are available even at German supermarkets so I shall buy as a stock ... But it's fun to make it.

Since I don't have a pasta drying rack, I let them wait like this with chopsticks 😅

I must buy one some day ... I didn't have seaweed to make soup so I used mushrooms and veggies in the fridge. At least I think they make soup that is good enough without "Dashi".

After cooking the Udon, I cooled it down with cold water so that it got a chewy texture. Then I found my daughter fell asleep. I couldn't wait for her to eat the Udon. It was delicious as always and I was glad that I took effort to make it.

I will freeze some to make Curry Udon next week.

子供が風邪を引いてぐったりしていたので、「風邪の子供のスープ作ろうか?」と聞いてみました。風邪の子供のスープとは、野菜のスープに小さいアルファベットのパスタを入れたスープで、なんでかこう呼ぶようになったんだろう、たしか以前風邪をひいたときにインスタントのそんなスープを買って出したからだと思います。

去年からHive.blogに書いているSoupe Storiesのネタにもなるしいいかなと下心丸出しで思っていたら、なんと「うどん食べたい。日本の子供は風邪の時はうどんだよね」と。そんなこと昔言ってうどん作ったな・・・ちょっとめんどうだなと思ったものの、考えていたら私もうどんを食べたくなってうどんを打つことにしました。@koto-artさんが最近書いていたカレーうどんの投稿を読んでカレーうどんを食べたくなり、昨日とてつもなくおいしい日本のカレーを食べたのもあり。

久しぶりにパスタマシンを出してきてうどんを打ちました。最近はドイツのスーパーにも乾麺のうどんが売られているので、買い置きをしてもいいのかも・・・でも作るの楽しいんですよね。

パスタハンガーがないので毎度こんな状態で茹でるのを待たせています w

そろそろいい加減にパスタハンガーを買いたいのですが、大好きなAmazon様の無料配送の注文下限が29ユーロから39ユーロ(6000円弱!)に上がってしまい、気軽にじゃんじゃん注文できないのでとりあえずカートへ。でもまあ少量ならこれでいいんですよね。台所にものが増えるのも嫌で悩むところです。

出汁用昆布がきれていたので、冷蔵庫にあった舞茸もどきを入れて野菜と軽く炒めて出汁もどきとしました。洋風のスープもスープストックいらないのと同様、和食の出汁も適当で結構美味しい気がするのは私だけでしょうか。

水でしめて完成・・・・・・子供て寝るし 😅 あとで温めればよいので問題なしです。

Hey!!! I just did a pasta post the other day and it looks like you have the same pasta making machine as I do. Very clever of you to use the chop sticks in place of the drying rack!

Yeees! I saw your post and happy to find the same machine. It's a clever idea but it's too much when I make noodles for more than 3-4 people. I put one in my Amazon shopping cart 😉

I read somewhere that you can freeze the home made pasta too. I have not done it yet, but it seems pretty simple and definitely very convenient.

I froze part of mine and it works ... it's Japanese Udon though ;)
