Food Sharing #218 - Nikaido @ Neutral Bay, Australia

Hi Everyone,

As the COVID situation is easing in Australia, we think it is pretty safe to go out to dinner once in a while as we haven’t had dinner out with the kids that much for the past year. We were all craving for yakiniku which is Japanese BBQ so we found an all you can eat on at Neutral Bay. The best part is that Baby M is free because he is under 6 and Baby E is half price which isn’t too bad as they both can eat quite a bit of meat. Good yakiniku is hard to come by in Sydney so we are hoping this one won’t disappoint.

There were plenty of parking behind the building near Woolies supermarket which wasn’t a problem for us. The only time it may be an issue if it rains as it isn’t undercover so having the kids walk outside can be a bit painful. The best part for dinner is it is free parking after 6pm so we don’t have to worry about timing. I booked our dinner for 6.30pm and was told it won’t be too busy so we won’t be needing to ask to leave by the end of the meal which is great. There are 3 choices of all your can eat where premium will get you the good stuff like sashimi and wagyu beef where as standard just includes the ordinary beef, pork, salad, vegetables and basic desserts. No need to decide, we decided to go for the premium version. The duration of your meal also depends on how many adults are seated from 2 adults allowing 100 minutes with 8 adults or more unlimited time.

We were given our little booth which is great for the kids. There is also a large part of the restaurant for larger groups. Just like many yakiniku places in Japan, there are lots of posters of the specials for the customers to decide what they want to order including happy hour drinks and craft beers. We order our food from the touch screen which was a hit for the kids, they can order anything they want and we tell them to order stuff to keep them occupied. The only thing you need to worry about if you have kids is that the BBQ plate is pretty hot and there is no barrier of some sort so the kiddies will have to watch their hands and faces. We were also given some sauces for the meat, the left is more like a BBQ sauce and the right is like a sesame oil which smell soooooo nice.

Here comes the meat. As this is an all you can eat buffet, we decided to order a bit of every thing first, try it and re-order the ones we like. The quality of the meat is top notch you can just keep on ordering more and more. We also ordered a variety of sashimi, cooked food for the kids like gyoza, udon and karage chicken but the favourite is still the meat. We ordered at least 4 rounds of meat and really I think we were “meat out”. The only non beef meat we ordered was the pork belly, that fat was just nice wrapped with lettuce.

The service here was fast and friendly. We have been to many buffets and it takes forever for them to bring you the food but this place was just giving you food whoever you want it and every single time was of high quality. You do pay for the better meat and you won’t be disappointed. The staff there was super friendly and even had a chat with our kids. You will need to book ahead of time to ensure you get a table as it does get very busy. We were there on a weeknight and it was packed! Highly recommend this yakiniku with my kids already asking when can we go again!
