Hello everyone! Today I am going to share a cooking recipe on how to make yummy Tomato Chutney.
Ingredients
The following are the ingredients required for this recipe. However, feel free to tailor them according to your preferences. For instance, if you prefer the chutney to be less spicy or more, adjust the amount of chillies accordingly.
The main ingredient is of course, tomato. 4 large tomatoes are required. Cut them into slices like the above.
These are the other ingredients:
- 1 large onion - chopped
- 3 garlic cloves - cut into halves
- 1 inch of ginger - cut into pieces
- Tamarind - the size of a marble
- 1 tablespoon of jaggery
Tadka seeds a.k.a. tempering spices (Mustard seeds, methi seeds, urad dhal and split black lentils) - 1 teaspoon
The following are the ingredients that are not in the picture:
- Oil - to your preference
- Salt - to taste
Cooking Method
First of all, turn the stove on and let the pot heat a little. Then pour some oil into the pot.
Once the oil heats up a little, add a teaspoon of the tadka seeds (tempering spices). These are a mixture of seeds, comprising of methi seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal and split black lentils. Be careful and keep a safe distance from the pot because the seeds will jump in hot oil and sometimes they can even get to our skin.
Add the ginger and garlic slices.
Continue by adding the onion as well. Then, fry them both together.
Next, add the dry chillies. These are round chillies but you can also use the regular dry chillies. These round chillies are a little spicier than the regular ones, otherwise they are almost the same.
After that, add all of the tomatoes into the pot and mix them well.
This is how they look after frying.
The next ingredient to add is the tamarind. Here's a closer look of it.
Mix everything well. The tamarind gives a tinge of sour tangy flavour.
Add salt to taste. You can also check it later on if it is the right amount and add more.
Finally, add jaggery and mix everything together. This is also the last ingredient, assuming the salt is in the right amount.
Turn the fire off. This is how it looks when it is ready to be turned into chutney. Yes, it is still not ready :D Let it cool for a while.
The mixture need to be ground so pour all of it into a grinder. Grind it with intervals so you can check it for the right consistency. It takes only around a minute or so to get this done. Tomato chutney is ready!
Pour it into a food container and store it in the fridge so it lasts longer.
The tomato chutney can be eaten with idli or dosa meals. The tomato chutney is the one in the middle. These are some yummy and healthy idli.
The on in the picture above is a dosa, which can also be eaten with chutney. I hope that you enjoyed reading my post and find it informative. Thank you for dropping by and have a great day ahead!
